Title: Zombicide
Post by: CptJake on 27 April 2012, 11:11:42 AM
The folks that made Super Dungeon Explore have a game called Zombicide coming out.   They have it up on Kickstarter, and with bonuses there it looks like a very decent source for all kinds of zombie and zombie hunter goodness.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/zombicide

I don't mean this as spam, I just wanted to share the knowledge.  Personally I think the figs shown look pretty decent, even if the game isn't great all the figures will come in handy for ATZ or your zombie game of choice.

I have already backed this game! It looks fantastic!
The way things are going all stretch goals will be reached which will mean a total of 108 minis of heroic 28mm scale for $100 or $125 for those of us outside of the US. The game play looks really good too (Youtube video showing basic gameplay on the kickstarter site)
I am really excited about this and can't wait until september when it is released

I backed it hoping to get the extra character figures that were a 'stretch goal'.   With the character zombies and all the other extra zombies that are now included I'm very much looking forward to this.

I'm gonna back this at the $100 level if they allow for PayPal pledges.

It's very much appreciated - I hadn't seen such a clear picture of the minis before, just an irritating semi-animated ad on CMoN.  Thanks.

Don't forget to add a "little" extra for the customs  :-[

Backed this this morning - looks absolutely amazing! And for that many minis, the price isn't too bad. There is a fair bit of variety among the walkers (more than in the picture), and they look like some conversion with a little GS wouldn't be too difficult to get a nice varied horde for any game.

I particularly want to use the 'fatty' zombie as the base of a character for a post apoc gang - head swap, switch the arms and a repose on the foot and he'd look right at home in the Wasteland!

Hope the casts come out as good as the demo ones, but if Super Dungeon Explore is anything to go by, I'm not too worried  :D

Backed. You'd be silly do anything less than $100 for all the goodies you get now.  At minimum you can make some cool horde bases.  Minis are practically $1 a piece now once you factor everything together.

If I can scrounge together some cash I'll be putting down my 125 bucks. I wonder what the developer feels though. They're are putting what I would assume is a fair amount of time into the mechanics and game only for people to go meh and rush over to the pretty figures, though I am one of them :D

Stupidly happy? I'd be!   lol

And I just plopped down my 125!  WOW, looks like a great game!  And there are tons of 25mm zombie figs out there, so it should not be hard to add more of everything!

Thanks so much for posting this!

I'm pretty sure if/when they post a PDF of the rules, or once the game is out and folks can read the actual rules, more game play issues (good and bad) will be discussed on various forums like BGG.

Until then, I am happy to gush over the figures!

I emailed and ask them the same question.  The answer, if you live outside the US, is to select the button for the deal you want, then add $25 for shipping.  You can put $125 in the pledge amount box at the top of the pledge list.

Dang. didn't notice there were overseas issues ( Wreck-age kickstarters page clearly stated this)
Guess I'll have to add those $25.

I'm in the Netherlands, but I'm an American, so I'm having mine shipped to my US address, and then my parents will send it on to me.  The shipping will end up costing more than the $25.00, but since this is a gift for me, my parents will repackage and send it as such, thus avoiding customs charges.  But I suspect the $25.00 will be only one charge, Ducth customs on this could be as much as 30 - 40 euro more.

Thanx for the info Too Bo Coo. It is still worth considering though. Put in 145 Dollar for the game and extra's plus a 40 Euro customs charge still means I get 112 Zombies/Survivors for less then 1, 50 Euro a model. ::)

I still have a few days to think this through. :D

Often times you won't have to pay import tax if the item's value is below a certain amount (I think about $125 in the EU), but Value Added Tax would have to be paid in any case.

I bought an apple laptop a few years ago and did what I'm doing here.  I sent it to my parents in the states and they mailed it on to me.  Customs kept it 30 days extra out of spite, because they could not charge me tax...

From what I've seen, every assessment of taxes also carries a 12 -15 euro 'fee', it's a total rip off and I'll never have anything sent here again from a vendor.  Never.

Not for me, i'm afraid! =(

ish, there are 5 different sculpts of the shambling zombies, 2 different running zombies and the 'fatty' and 'abomination zombies. So 9 different zombies and all the survivors are individual sculpts. So if you go for the extra couple like I have then that's 11-12 survivors plus another 6 individual zombie versions of said survivors.

So in total, assuming the last stretch goals are met, that's 27 different sculpts in there. I think that's pretty good.

Now that said, obviously the zombies are going to be the largest proportion of that but as horde figures, they tend to be like that from many companies anyway. The Mantic zombies for example (which are widely loved, and I use a bunch) only have 3 torso's so even when mixing with legs etc, there is a very 'samey' look to them. I think when given a paint job the zombies can be given very different styles, even amongst the same pose. Plus with it being a hardish plastic, conversions will be easy to do.
Title: Re: Zombicide
Post by: Sangennaru on 02 May 2012, 11:12:25 AM
well, 27 sculpts for 100 $ is still a fair price.
For my gaming phylosophy, two identical miniatures cannot be in the same table together. But that's an opinion. And you can make some conversions, you are right! =)

It is isn't it? I hadn't considered that  lol

I mostly agree with you, I would prefer every figure I own to be a different sculpt but it's just not realistic outside of small skirmish games. My Zouave units from the Perry's are a good example, I've converted them etc but there is only so much variety you can put into 40 troops that all wear the same uniform and are advancing.

Just to confirm for everyone outside the USA. Since your pledge rewards are rewards and not strictly speaking pre-orders, they will be marked as gifts. We'll also put them down for a reasonable manufacturing cost, so as to minimize your customs impact.

Brugge is very beautiful to walk around (and only 30' away by car)
Problem with Brugge is that people don't realise they're in a city. I've heard stories about tourists asking 'till what hour the museum is open, referring to the whole city.
In Gent you really get that lived in feeling.  :D

I wouldn't worry too much about the material, check out these pictures of Last Night On Earth minis, they are made of an extremely soft, bendy plastic (close to rubber, actually) and they can be painted up great.

Time for the final countdown until the Zombicide Apocalypse begins!

The project is at 340.000 USD with 3 days to go, so stay at home this weekend instead of going to the club and spend your money on a buttload of plastic figures (plus the game ;) )

I'm still pondering if I should search for a way to pledge the 125 USD as an overseas zombie fanatic (or if I should go to the club this weekend and waste the cash on booze :D )

On a similar question- I pledged $75, to get the game, thinking it would prompt me for the postage $25 (as I am in the UK) later on in the prosess, but it never did- was I suposed to pledge $100, and if so what do I do about it?

Title: Re: Zombicide
Post by: Cherno on 07 May 2012, 12:31:44 AM
Yes, you were supposed to pledge the level plus $25 (or was it $20?) for international shipping. I'm pretty sure this is covered in the FAQ or similar on teh kickstarter page :)

I'm also pretty sure that changing the pledged amount is not possible any more through kickstarter, now that the fundraising has closed. I guess you could always try to ask them if you could send them the rest via PayPal.

I contacted them and they are not worried. They said they will send out an email when the product is ready to shift (in september) to see what I want and to sort out any additional payments. I would guess from this that I can also buy more stuff, in addition to what I pledged for, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I just caught wind of this game due to a friend - but to me it looks very similar to Last night on Earth - a game that is very good. The only difference seem to be the shift from trying to survive the zombie apocalypse like in LNoE to hacking away at the hordes of undead in Zombiecide?

Don't mean to be negative but what exactly is the difference between this and LNoE, it just seems like a copycat (with a bit cooler looking zombies)  ???

I do like this whole "Kickstarter" trend though, lots of interesting projects of all kinds get funded by fans this way.
Title: Re: Zombicide
Post by: Cherno on 07 May 2012, 01:46:43 PM
I don't think it looks too similar to LNoE. LNoE is a survivors vs. zombie master game with playable event cards, whereas Zombicide looks more like a board game version of All Things Zombie, with cooperative gameplay and zombies spawning based on noise from weapon fire etc.

I was sent an email from amazon and charged yesterday.  But no survey.  They did put a link on the KS page if you did not get a survey yet and it opened a 'ticket' on their website.  But I'm not sure if anyone else got the same thing.

Qoute from an e-mail they send yesterday.

We'll be sending out the survey to confirm all your shipping and optional items in the coming days (i.e. not today), so don't sweat it if you missed something out or whatever.  We'll be cool about it.

I can imagine they are a bit overwhelmed so lets give them a few days to get their act together. :D

Had it now. Amazon.com still had an old email address listed so it had gone to that one.

Charged: Yes!
Survey: Yes!

The survey allows you to update your purchases and add extra money etc as needed.

On the survey, the question about Abomination deals in in addition to any that you originally indicated you may want (i.e. if you want 1 just put 0, or you'll be charged for an extra one).

September delivery time is the schedule originally discussed. It's Q2 2013 for the expansion, and that's when a number of the bonus survivor / survivor zombies ship.

I'm not clear, are we able to add to our initial pledge for optional items?  I signed on in the long-ago days of 160k, but they added a lot of new kit since.  I plopped down 120, but I'd like to add another 40 to get the other minis and the extra boards.

Anyone have an idea here?

You can upgrade you pledge withthe questionair (You probably already know that). I just upgraded to Abomination (Just don't tell the wife!)  ;D

Sorry.

Ah, don't be. It's only logical they send out the parcels for the local market first.
I was merely demonstrating my eagerness to get the box (despite the fact that I've got dozens of other things to paint up...)
