The stripes on Malto are superb.
-
:o
These blew me away the first time that I saw them, and the effect is not lessened in any way with a repeat performance!
One of the stars of an amazing LPL season.
Just the thought of attempting Watson's suit causes me to tremble.
Superb brushwork on each and every one!
:-* :-* :-*
-
The imaginative approach to the undertaker is what struck me, how many were painted black?
-
My thought, exactly, Svennn: no tram lines being followed here.
-
Definitely one of the stand out entries of Season Six, even amongst your wonderful offerings. Thanks for the close-ups!
-
I really loved this entry! :-*
The textile patterns are insane! :o
The truly amazing part, you could have just shown the brick work without all of the great miniatures and I would have been thoroughly impressed. :D
-
Stunning 8)
-
Amazing paintjob with really nice, bright and sharp colours.
-
Wonderful, Richard.
Stripes, plaids... blimey!
But I must admit the flower lady stole my heart. :-*
-
Absolutely brilliant.
What is the backdrop building?
-
Can't say enough about that plaid :-*!
-
Great paint on the mens outfits!
Very well done.
tt43.
-
Lovely brush work. Excellent looking mini's.
-
Wow, just wow!
"Buy my Violets, Mister. NOW!"
-
You've done a spectatcular job on these Captain, I'm in awe.
o_o - this is my eyes revolving in wonder.
-
Fantastic work!!!!
I love the stripes and checks. Truely great brush work.
-
Fantastic: the detail and colours are mindblowing.
-
Wonderful paintjobs, inspiring!
-
Really great stuff!
-
Thanks all - I was quite pleased with them.
The secret is not really in the painting though. They're all really great, characterful figures, and I went to some lengths to get my hands on at least three of them, kindly assisted by the generosity of fellow LAFers Admiral Benbow and Aircav.
With figures this good, the painting is an absolute pleasure, and seems to just flow from the tip of the brush :)
What is the backdrop building?
It's a Victorian warehouse / factory handmade by TM Terrain, which I borrowed from Malamute's extensive collection of Victorian buildings (he has a whole town you know ;))
-
All been said before.......
Excellent brush work and a good eye for minis. :-* :-* :-*
You bang on about subject matter. I find it easier to paint minis that I love.

Exactly so.
-
They really are brilliant pieces of work.
-
With the current subdued colors & limited palette chic, it's a joy to see such vivid color choices, & brightly colored attire. The BEAUTIFUL bases only add to the overall WONDERFUL effect. I find your pieces to be inspiring. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Thank you, gentlemen.
:)
-
Another vote here for "amazing!". As has been said it's the patterns that I really like here. Dr. Watson's checkered suit is incredible, but also the other guy's striped trousers. It's so hard to give a patterned fabric enough depth without obscuring the pattern itself.
-
Greetings
I loved them before.
That hasn't changed at all. What amazes me the most is the vibrancy of the colors. This is such a joy to look at. :-*
Thank you for the close-ups.
Jo
-
I seem to have missed this thread up to now ... They really are beautiful and a testament to painting what inspires you.
-
by the Gods man those are NICE!!!!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :o :o :o
-
Absolutely stunning, in everything you do I love the vibrancy of your colours, you have for me along with the good Doctor provided the stand outs of this season.
-
Thanks Simon :)

After a bit of a hiatus, I've added a few more characters to the Gun Club, in light of an upcoming game I am running at the next BLAM... These are really more 1920's Pulpy figures (from Thrilling Tales by Mike Owen) than true Victoriana, but they're close enough for my requirements... :)
Olga Vryschenko, Professor Pottering, and Lady Penelope Fondling...

Right, now back to the Medievals! :D
-
:o
Wonderful brushchucking!
How do you manage those stripes?
They are Bloody lovely!
:-* :-* :-*
-
Bright, Clear, Colourful - Perfect!
-
Excellent! All photo's nicked for future "inspiration" ;)
Love the blokes yellow jacket 8)
-
Lovely paint jobs Captain.
Thanks for reviving this thread as well.
It's an old favorite.

Tsk, tsk, ;D

Excellent bum cheek detail on Penelope, they are a tight pair alright ;) ;D
-

I was looking at the rosy ones then the penny dropped.....
-
Excellent bum cheek detail on Penelope, they are a tight pair alright ;) ;D
I'm sure there were many subtle, carefully placed brushstrokes coupled with great deal of careful attention from the Captain :)
-
How do you manage those stripes?
Carefully :D
Right then...
I've now prepared the table, rules and character cards for the game I'll be running in a couple of weeks time...
Here's the table, thrown together from various odds and sods. Think it will pass for a corner of Mittel-Europa. It is another of those linear games - the goodies start at one end and have to make their way down to the other to achieve their objectives, whilst surviving...
Now here are the rules. Yes, they fit on a postcard. My ideal rules.
They are also thrown together using a variety of ideas and mechanics cribbed from various other rulesets I've played.
But they are essentially simple. See if you can figure them out :)
Will they work? Who knows. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks time.
And here are a few sample character / unit cards - 1 per character figure or section of troops.

Looking great Richard :-* :-* :-*
Safe me a space.
Whats that hanging on the platform?
-
These pictures are unreal! :o :o :o
-
Thanks :)
Whats that hanging on the platform?
Ah - that'll be the unfortunate bride of Dracula, helplessly awaiting the arrival of her betrothed with the dusk...
Rescuing the unfortunate damsel from a date with the bloodsucker may well be one of the objectives ;)
Last seen doubling as a cavegirl in the LPL... :)
-
Lovely cards and board. It looks like it is going to be a very fun game! :-*
-
These are all fantastic, I'm drooling over those cave girls seriously nice flesh tones. The stripes are superb fantastic brushwork
-
Another great thread that has completely passed me by until now. Where does the captive woman on the pole come from? It might be useable (after a head swap) as a slave (baggage element) for my Darkest Africa project.
Wonderful painting as ever Richard. Can't wait to see them for real in the very near future. :D
-
Cheers Paul. The victim is from Reaper :)
-

Yep, they were one of my favorite entries! :-*
-
:o
Stunning!
All of it.
Just stunning.
:-* :-* :-*
Cant wait to see these in the 'flesh'!
;D
-
:o :o :o :o :o
WOW!! You are a gifted individual....what to paint my figures???
Thanks for sharing.
Humble Regards

Magnificent; all of it
Love to play that game
-
Beautiful miniatures, painted to the HIGHEST standard, beautiful scenery and a simple, yet fun set of rules.
What can be better?
Please, keep us posted about this project.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes.
-
Everything about this is very appealing! All-round excellent :-*
-
You don't have those cards as a Word Document , do you? ;)
-
The cards are great.
Looks like it will be a wonderful game.
-
Lovely :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks chaps. Photos of the game(s) to follow in due course.
You don't have those cards as a Word Document , do you? ;)
No, but I have them as a Powerpoint deck and as a PDF :)
Obviously Powerpoint is better so you can drop your own character names and pics in, but you'd need to download the fonts as well - although I can try to embed them. But they're straight off Dafont anyway, so free to download.
PM me with your email addy and I'll whizz them over to you.
-
Every thing looks perfect.
Can't wait to see the game and how it turns out.
-
Lovely thread! :-*
-
:o
Super paintwork, super terrain, super idea... super thread!
-
Thanks :)
Well the Whitechapel Gun Club had their first outing at this weekend's British Lead Adventure Meeting (BLAM!)
The Gun Club were officered by Matakishi and Jimbibbly, whilst the evil adversaries were controlled by Hammers and Harvey.
The objective was for the Gun Club (on an outing to Transylvania) to make their way down a table fraught with obstacles and enemies to pluck a sacrifical maiden from hideous peril before evil vampire, Count Ordog, can awake as dusk falls (start of turn 5) and emerge from his lair to claim his bride...
Managing to despatch the beast into the bargain, would be objective fulfilled and then some.
Here are few pics...
The Gun Club members encircle the smithy beside a bridge. They aimed to sneak up silently, but the lone sentry on the bridge spotted them and yells a warning.
The Count's Carparthian riflemen come tumbing out into a withering hail of devastatingly accurate pistol fire.
Colonel Szekely is despatched before he can even flick the switch on his electro-lance force field generator. So much for his special ability.
As Professor Pottering leads the way onto the bridge, Dr Watson and his companions outflank the villains along the river...
All in all, short work is made of the Carparthians, and soon all are dead.
But the shooting has roused the crew of the Infernal Steam Vehicle 'Pokol'. They spill from their inn billet, and fire up their vehicle... As it approaches the bridge, rattling off bursts from its Maxim gun, the Great Marengo heroically blocks its path, peers in the driver's window, and attempts to use his special ability to mesmerise her.
Unfortunately he fails, so the Gun Club members surround the vehicle, and daredevil Lady Penelope Fondling vaults atop the confounded contraption, whips off her underwear and stuffs it down the funnel thereby blocking the exhaust and causing the vehicle to fill with steam and judder to a halt...
As the vehicle lurches forwards with its last gasp it flattens Florrie Nightingale, Marengo and Dr Watson, causing several injuries but no fatalities.
Just as well both Florrie and the good Doctor possess healing special abilities, and remove wounds like nobody's business...
Lady Penelope flings herself forward over the turret, inserts her mauser into the machine gun slot, and empties her magazine into the interior, the hail of ricocheting bullets finally bringing the dreadful carriage to a final rest. Meanwhile, Unorthodox priest Father Erasmus, heads off through the rocks to find a path less travelled...
Unfortunately, all these shenanigans have taken up four entire turns. Dusk falls, and the wicked Count explodes from his hunting lodge, eager to savour his new, helpless bride... (Sorry he's slightly out of focus... You can never seem to get a good picture of a vampire, can you?)
Dr Watson has raced after Father Erasmus however, and they attempt to sneak around the back of the unfortunate victim's platform, as other members of the Gun Club approach from the crossroads...
The Great Marengo, now attempts to mesmerise the Count's Bridal guards. Once again, he fails (he's really not that good an illusionist as things turn out), so pulls out his pistol and starts shooting instead.
In the spooky mist (no, I don't know what happened to that picture) Captain Ishmael Spoons, Fanny Daley, and Lady Euthanasia Pokingham-Proditt line up to take potshots at the Bridal Guards lurking in the conifer forest...
Moving forward from cover to cover, the members of the Gun Club gradually pick off the enemy until only the Count himself remains.
Since the monster is impervious to bullets, Lady Euthanasia then gathers up her skirts and rushes him, wrapping herself around his legs so he can't get away...
Marengo finally proves his worth by leaping onto the platform and freeing the victim - whom he promptly recruits as a new glamorous assistant...
Whilst the other ladies swarm over the Count and subdue him, leaving Father Erasmus to plunge his stake through the heart of the beast.
Game over - victory to the Whitechapel Gun Club.
A general view of the table...
Verdict. It worked pretty well. A few minor tweaks to the rules required - one or two of the special abilities were a bit too powerful and one or two others were of no use at all. But essentially, a workable little game, and the basic mechanics work well.
Further adventures will follow...
-
That looked like a lot of fun 8)
-
Brilliant report, Cap'! Can't wait to see more...
-
Excellent table, excellent minis - what more could you ask for?
-
Looks like fun!
-
Thats just so much better than anything I will ever achieve. lol
-
A wonderful story.
Love the figures and terrain.
Have to ask the question,
what kind of underwear does Lady Fonding wear?
Sexy, I bet. :o
-
Bravo sir, Bravo! :-*
-
A thoroughly entertaining game! You really can't beat an incompetent mesmerist for comedy relief :D
One of my most inspiring gaming moments from this years BLAM, thanks for putting it on Richard, it all worked a treat.
-
Never got a chance to play, but sure looks like a nice game!
-
A wonderful story.

Lecherous pervert. I know from personal experience they were not slinky and minimal little unmentionables but rather some wooly and sensible combination with enough stopping power to make a steam engine, stoked red hot, come to a grinding halt. My poor Transylvanian Lesbians...
A great and wonderful looking game inviting to all sorts of puerile and silly comments (although perhaps a wee bit tilted in the favour of the goodies).
-
Lovely, lovely, lovely. :-*
-
Excellent! I bet that'd work as a film, sort of Carry On meets Hammer directed by Guy Ritchie 8)
-
I cry foul!
1) This a Gothic forum, and you used a steam tank. A STEAM TANK!
2) Unclad female figures? What of the children?!?
:D
A real joy; well done!
Lecherous pervert. I know from personal experience they were not slinky and minimal little unmentionables but rather some wooly and sensible combination with enough stopping power to make a steam engine, stoked red hot, come to a grinding halt. My poor Transylvanian Lesbians...
If only there'd been a suitable figure for Ms. Fondling whilst in the midst of her machinations. Now that I think of it, the unfortunately ladies of the beast were privy to consoling visions to send them off to final rewards...
Is 'Lecherous pervert' a redundant phrase? Remarkable on this forum?
A great and wonderful looking game inviting to all sorts of puerile and silly comments (although perhaps a wee bit tilted in the favour of the goodies).
Which only continues here.
Just remember, the Count's not really dead; he'll be back for the sequel, I'm sure.
I heard about the stake, but was there a decapitation? I thought not...
Well done, Captain et. al.!
Doug
Edit: Re: Maiden on Spit, does anyone know if the crossbar is separate from the uprights? I'm suddenly envisioning replacing with native, or the vampire's minion, bearers.
-
:o
Overall, pretty spectacular if you ask me. ;)
:-*
-
Does anyone else think that burning virgins on a wooden bridge is probably not a clever thing to do? ;)
-
.......and this thread is why I am glad to have decided to start gaming Gothic Horror!
Excellent table, figures etc etc. Well done!
-
Much fun and silliness was had all round :D
cheers
