Don't know why I decided they were Hospitallers, and wished I hadn't while painting the crosses.

Oh, very nice indeed :-* :-*
Your painting is getting better and better 8)

Can only agree with that

Impressive paint job!
-
Exceptionally pleasing on the eye! The Hospitaller heraldry really suits them.
-
Well done and let me assure you: the result is well worth your trouble. Really cool minis.
-
Very fun idea JB. They look great.
-
Superb painting! And they have legs ...
:-*
-
Wow, very nice!
-
Fantastic miniatures, fantastic painting, well done.

-
They look fantastic, Bob!
:-*
A great idea, the Hospitaler thing, and very well executed.
You have really sold these Dwarves to me.
If I have a future need for the short folk, these will be the ones I will choose.
They really do seem to have the right anatomy scale for me.
Thank you!
:)
-
Thank you very much fellas. :D
-
Ugh, can I chop your hands off and replace mine with them?
In other words, superb paint job you talanted git. :P
-
Fabulous Rob. Lovely figures and brilliant painting :-*
-
tres chick! A nice new idea with dwarves, at least to me. And very well executed! Makes me wanting to do some dwarves again myself! Maybe even steeling this cute idea :-*
best wishes

Oh yeah Maxxev, like you are some sort of painting slouch or something eh? Pfft :-)
In other words, superb paint job you talented git. :P
And i agree 100%. Damn nice paint job. I never liked the crossbow on that model. No wrongs to you about it. Your paint scheme is excellent though.

Cracking job and the hospitaller theme works really well :)
-
Excellent! Great paintwork and an idea worth nicking 8)

Thanks again chaps, I'm very happy that you like them. :)
I really hope that Hasslefree release some more dwarves in this style, with the flat-top helms and tabards. I have a bundle of the Norman-style ones to do, but could use another two or three of these just to bulk out the gang.
Currently I have them in my head as a Brother-Knight, two Sergeants and a Lay-Brother, and I could use one more of each of the Sergeants and Lay-Brothers to make up a full "Lance".
-
The Vertically Challenged Crusaders look FANTASTIC...your usual high standard brushwork & basing with a very clever theme. As always VERY WELL DONE!
-
Very nice!

The Nasal helms would work well as normal foot soldiers, give them less uniformed approach but with a red/white cross badge?
-
Does anyone else see these as possible LotR dwarves?
cheers

That's pretty much my plan, although they won't necessarily be crusaders. Need to look at some proper Norman shield designs before I make any decisions.
Does anyone else see these as possible LotR dwarves?
I think that's been suggested on the Forum of Doom, and IIRC Kev White said that's what he had in mind.

I certainly do, but maybe not what you guys are thinking.
I was thinking that, anatomically, they remind me of Dwarves as illustrated in the MERP books.
To my mind, that will always be what Dwarves should look like.

I am sure you could get some Heater shields fomr the like of Front Rank to change them from the Norman look, that way you could tie in the design
-
Top job Rob-Bob! The crosses looks like transfers, in a good way! Very nice!

Quirky and lovely, great job J-bob!

Most likely, but I kind of like the Norman look so I'll be using the rounded off kite shields that come with them.
I like the idea of the Hospitallers being a bit special too, maybe forming an elite group in the force, so standing out from the others is good.
-
Truly fantastic paint job - original and inspiring. How do they comapre size wise with GW LotR Dwarfs? I am trying to get together a few warbands of Dwarfs that actually have legs, and these along with the LotR ones would make a great start to the project. Also, could you put up some pictures of the Norman style ones.
-
Thanks for the comments Odo. :)
I'm afraid I have no idea how they compare to the LOTR dwarfs as I don't own any, although I would expect the GW ones to be slightly smaller from what I've seen of them.
I'll be putting up pics of the Norman Dwarves as and when they get finished, but in the meantime pics can be seen here on Hasslefree's website:

Four packs of four figures with spears, hand weapons or crossbows, plus a couple of characters in the same style.
-
Very nice work - excellent painting and a very nice idea.
The Dwarves are lovely - I've been after some dwarves that have a more C13th (ish) look than the usual pseudo-Viking style. I think these are probably the ones...
-
I love them :-* nice Miniatures and great Painting!
-
Fabulous Rob. Lovely figures and brilliant painting :-*
Richard mentioned these to me earlier today, I had missed this thread as I rarely visit the fantasy board.
Wonderful painting Rob, they look excellent. ;D

Ta mate. :D

Very cool- I have some that have yet to feel paint.....
-
I like the hospitaller dwarves.
Very nice idea and an even greater paintjob.
-
Great figures - love HF stuff - painting is top-notch. As others have said, you're just getting better and better. :)
-
Thanks again. :) I'm pleased that people can see an improvement in my painting.
