Ok, I'm thinking about one of these.
-
Great idea. Loads of scope for detailing. I saw a hut like that in the Ecuadorian rainforest. It had a resident boa constrictor to keep vermin down. As we were getting told this I looked up and it was right above me. It wad a big one too.
-
Rather a nifty idea but will the water be a complete river or just part?
cheers

I think I'll settle for just a part. A bit of bank, couple of shacks. Modelling the length and breadth of the world's largest river I might leave to you. :)

At a scale of 1:10,000 I might just do it lol

so it will be approx 1 meter width and 650 meters long.... good luck!

Great idea!
I could use that build of yours for my CRotA board.

Cool idea! 8)

Nice idea,I immediately thought of 'The Mosquito Coast'.
-
Finally pulled my finger out.

An afternoon's work
-
Brazilian marines for scale reference. I'm thinking about making two or three structures, dunno if that's within the rules or not.
-
Looking good. Well done.
-
That's a good size for gaming in 8)
cheers

That is looking great!
I do have to ask, is that lots of strips of balsa stuck together or a sheet scored to look like planks?
Basically if it is a sheet it looks amazingly life like, if it is strips you are a zen master!
-
Scored balsa sheets for the walls, balsa strips for the frames. A bit more work got done tonight the deck was extended and then framed with more balsa strips to give it the look of a platform that wouldn't flood with every ripple on the river. I'll be adding a hand rail and a water tank stand tomorrow night if I find time. Then it get's a detachable tin roof, furniture and fittings etc.
Plan is to get a bit of multi use out of this one it will be demounable from the river base so I can plonk it on a table or even on stilts. I'll be making a slightly more rustic version next.
I reckon I can find suitable beads to make the ever present gas bottle. Hammocks I think I can fashion out of lead foil and thread but the one thing that has me stumped is the water tank. By far the most popular, indeed ubiquitous model is the plastic Fortlev brand, you see these everywhere. Bugger of a shape. I need something to mount either on the roof or a tank stand towards the rear of the house. Any ideas chaps?

Bloody great start, Carlos!
And I'm a bit awestruck by the fact that you've posted some of you painted minis. I can't recall seeing that before ;)
-
Yeah but cleverly out of focus. Thought I would play with the iPad for a change.
-
What is the Size that you need? If it is small, maybe some kind of bottle cap would work.

Saw that sneaky move ;) But thought better to comment on that detail when you at least have something to show off :D
-
A little more work done. Original plan was to make two or three including a more rustic version but time is against me. Since I took these earlier today, I've finished the tank stand, shaped the water tank and I'm starting to plumb the interior.

2.

That's brilliant!! :o
I think your beer is out of scale though!! ;)
-
Great build, carlos!
-
That looks very good :)

Coming together nicely :-*

Really nice work and looks very gameable!

Go Carlos! :-*
Lovely piece of terrain you got there, I really look forward to see it finished!

This is looking great.
Very clean and tidy.
Looking forward to the finished article.

It's not going to be finished in time but que sera, sera. I have learned or rather re-learned a number of things along the way.
1) Make sure you have all the bits you need before embarking on a project, especially one with a fixed dealine. No bloody use saying 'oh damn I forgot to get X or Y' when up against the clock.
2) Painting or rather varnishing large surfaces outside is fraught with peril. Insects, pollen, fluff, all the various bits of flying detritous you'd rather not land on the surface invariably will. No time to sand and revarnish, it's been 40 degrees + here this week and today I can't be bothered, I'm taking the kids to the beach.
3) Good idea to plan and measure in advance. One roof down one to go :'(
4) Balsa really soaks up wood stain. That bracing you applied to the underside? Well it didn't quite do the job did it, hence the warping.
Anyway it's been fun and it won't be wasted, it may just get recycled.

Test fitting for the er... fittings

Damn Carlos, please don't ash can this project! It looks great so far and would be a fantastic location for a Pulp game. I understand the heat thing though. Have fun at the beach and don't forget some cold ones!

Looks great :-*
Please see it through, cos I really want to see the end product :)

Finish it!! Finish it!! Finish it!! That looks great from here!

I second that.
-
I third that :)
Would be a great shame not to finish it - gameable yet detailed. (Looks over shoulder at pile if own half finished projects.....)
-
It's a beauty, Carlos!
I fourth :)

If I do not hear strong opposition I will allow a certain amount of extension to the deadline, where people are close to finishing their entries.

I will obviously agree since my resin won't bloody dry, but I would also love to see Carlos and others finish their entries and be able to submit.

Since I was able to finish on time, I say no just to be an arse (and prepare myself for a career in administration work in the public sector). But, like Elk, I'd love to see all the other work finish :)
-
Nice :-*

No need on my account and it would be unfair on those who met the deadline. I did a little more today. It's been painted, repainted, roof built but yet to be painted. Water tank painted and mounted. Made a sattelite dish for the TV too. Internal fittings finished. Spent too much time faffing around with the interior detail, the things more of a dolls house than a gaming item. Isabella, my three year old has been eyeing it off, she thinks it would be suitable digs for Hey Kitty.
Internal bits, all sctachbuilt now include a refrigerator, wardrobe, shower, toilet, bed, wardrobe, couch and naturally.... a kitchen sink.
Anyway, when I said recycled I didn't mean binned. 'Twas always intended to have a life beyond this comp.
Will post more pics on this thread unless Hammers or one of the other mods decides to relocate.

Tell us about that "Muddy River"! Is that your game board for brown navy games?
