One for starters anyway. Got 9 to do and this is the first of them.
Just a quick pic so I'll do a better one once he's based up.
Might do the cop type guy next.
-
Lovely stuff!
-
Wow, outstanding gradients and color choices.
-
Yeah that t shirt is outstanding!
Blue

Fantastic painting, though can't stand the material this mini is based on :o
-
Wow, the blending is beautiful! Well done!
-
Any chance of a tutorial on your painting technique?

I never have a thing to say about SCL's painting ability or style.
I dont however like the sculpting of this fig's neck. Seems out of place.
I do so love the shirt equation as well. Though, from whom i understand this is modeled after, it should have the symbol of the Flash instead. :-)
And i so love the lightsabre every time i see it on this fig. So fitting. :-)

Bazinga! Terrific brushwork here, I love the subtle yellow-orange highlights on the shirt. And the limited palette of browns you used for the face and skin works great.
-
Fantastic start!! Looking forward to the rest!

Great work! Richard

lol The Big Bang Theory is almost as bad as Two And A Half Men.
-

At some point I'll do tutorial type stuff. Still photo's never quite work for me, at least for showing paint application and brushwork so I'm looking at getting a video camera. Maybe Santa will bring me one? ;)
Thanks for the comments everyone by the way.
-
lol The Big Bang Theory is almost as bad as Two And A Half Men.
Hooray! Finally two other people who admit there supremacy :D
Lovely work as usual Stoney! The guy who gets them will be more than pleased :-*
-
lol The Big Bang Theory is almost as bad as Two And A Half Men.
Well we have Chuck "lowest common denominator" Lorre to thanks for both of these turds!
-
The thought of you doing tutorials is very exciting.
Nice piece!
-
Top notch paint job there.
Love the big bang theory. I would have preferred a flash t shirt too but the equation looks great.
-
Finished the cop. The shotgun is a little soft but what can you do, it's bendy plastic.

Amazing! :o
-
:o WOW :o Very very nice.

Really love the tan shirt!
I've been struggling for a great while now to find the formula (well to be honest, I tried with the two tanesque colours I had and was really unhappy with the result), so what's the base colour? :)

It was VMC Medium Grey and highlighted with VMC Stone Grey and white. Gave it a thin glaze of GW Agrax Earthshade (or whatever it's called).
Cheers for the comments everyone. :)

Same producer....

1) First off, I hate you that you paint so beautifully.
2) You have wonderful stuff!
3) Do you plan on putting these on clear bases? If so, how will you attach them?
Have you tackled any zombies yet?

I'll be mounting them on Fenris urban bases.
The client just wants the survivors painting for now so I'll have to wait and see if he wants additional pieces doing.
-
Incredible stuff!
-
Brilliant again Mr Stones! :-* :-*
-
Brilliant work as usual, SCL!
The geek is great but the cop takes it to another level.
:-* :-* :-*
-
I echo the cries of "incredible". 8)
-
Wow! That cop looks freakin' awesome.
-
Judas Priest!, that is some amazing painting.

And the Survivalist guy that I meant to post yesterday.

:o
Stunning!
Simply stunning.
It is amazing the amount of character that you manage to convey in these fella's.
:-* :-* :-*
-
Fantastic Mr Cold Lead Stones! Brilliant work yet again!!
-
Cheers fella's :)
Got the not-Bruce Willis/Die Hard cop almost finished (been slacking so still need to paint his hair).

Got the not-Bruce Willis/Die Hard cop almost finished (been slacking so still need to paint his hair).
Does he have any hair?
-
Magnificent !
:o + 8) + :-*
BTW : how do you pin these, do you just drill holes ?
-

It's 80's not-Bruce so it's just receding ;)
-
Magnificent !
:o + 8) + :-*
BTW : how do you pin these, do you just drill holes ?
Yeah just drill a hole and glue a bit of brass rod in. With the plastic being so soft it drills very easily so you have to be careful not to get too carried away. Going to be fun trying to pin the rollerskate girl. Her bendy ankle needs pinning up into her calf.
-
Ingenious paint job!

Brucie, or the bad cop.

Amazing work!
Is the plastic soft enough to flex and crack your outstanding pjs?
-
Superb!
:-*
I bet Mr Willis wishes he still had that much hair!
-
Simply amazing. :-*
-
Amazing work!
Is the plastic soft enough to flex and crack your outstanding pjs?
Well these ones aren't that flexible so everything seems ok so far. You can usually get away with a little bit of movement anyway even with metal or hard plastics. The true test will be on the ones with bladed weapons and the roller skate girl's legs. Might just have to be extra careful handling those once they're done.
Thanks again for all the comments everyone. Much appreciated by my ego. :)

Sir,
You shouldn't be allowed to post here, as you set the standard too high for every one else. I'm only going to post my feeble disgusting work on the child pages from now on.
I'd be more afraid of meeting up with you in a league painter's challenge than spending a romantic weekend with Cthulhu in R'lyeh.
I also don't believe you really painted the talented Mr. Willis.
I vehemently demand that you unshrink one of my favorite action film actors. If you do not, I will be forced to to post further comments implying that you are not truly a miniature enthusiast, but instead an evil shrinker of human people.

Just got to remember to put the shrink ray down before taking a leak. Don't want any little accidents.

This last one is my favorite, I'm in awe, your painting skills are so impressive. Btw, your painting style reminds me a bit of Jennifer Haley works of which I always have been an admirer.
Would you mind to reveal your recipe on the skin and the trousers colours?

Cheers Prof. :)
The flesh is a base coat of VMC USA Tan Earth with a little VGC Beasty Brown added. Highlight layers are built up using more of the Tan Earth, then VGC Bonehwhite and finally a little white. I also added a thin glaze of old GW Ogryn Flesh at the end.
Not-Bruce's trousers used a base coat of VMC USA Olive Drab and was highlighted by adding old GW Foundation Adeptus Battlegrey and then VMC Stone Grey. Gave them a thin glaze of GW Agrax Earthshade too.
Finished varnishing El Cholo this morning. Not a great photo but you get the idea for now.
Used a slightly different flesh recipe to give him a darker skin tone. Base of VGC Beasty Brown, then highlights of VMC USA Tan Earth and VGC Bonewhite.
-
Godlike :-*
thanks for the recipes!
-
Amazing!
:-*
If Mr Willis does not make a film soon, we will know why, and Baconfat will be proven correct...
We are watching, ya know!
-
I wasn't taken with the sculpt of the last mini but you've made him look stunning. These really are some quality paint jobs there. Unbelievable.
-
:o Stunning. Love the tattoo :-*
-
Boy, I love your skills !
These paint jobs are far beyond of amazing.
I wish i had more money. I would send you my Zombicide package immediately

Ditto, ditto! Do you have a small tutorial on how you do the skin? Do you also add a general color over the whole miniature to bind the colors together? Or is it what it seems, you use a pretty tight palette? I'm super curious!

I've not got a tutorial yet but I'm hoping to do more of that kind of thing in the future.
I don't use any colours over the whole model to bind the colours but I do sometimes use ink or 'wash' glazes over specific areas.
Anyway, this week hasn't gone according to plan but here's another model I finished earlier in the week.

Damn right! The sweatshirt is mind blowing! o_o and the face!
Am I right in thinking this is a different skin tone than you have used in the past? I remember you describing one based on the tallarhn (or how ever you spell that.. ::) flesh...this seems more tan based?
Cheers,
Blue
-
You know what does "it" for me with this particular figure is the depth of shadow you left in the hood...I would have certainly painted more of the inside of the hood...and ruined the effect that you have here....awesome!

Great looking faded denim you complete barrrturd. ;)
Worst part of it is the rate that you churn them out at.
I'm very envious
Fantastic stuff.
Looking forward to more

Instead of the old Tallarn Flesh I've been using VMC USA Tan Earth. It's a bit more muted than the Tallarn Flesh but works just as well. There wasn't any artsy fartsy reason for the change though, it's simply that the Vallejo stuff is cheaper than GW and I was looking to find a good proxy.
-
Amazing!
-
Dude, your painting skills are just absurd.
No one has a right to be that good......
-
:o A sticky!?
Thanks for all the comments folks. As ever they're much appreciated. Should be back into the swing of things this coming week so hopefully will have the last 3 models done and have everything based up.
-
You sir are an amazingly fantastic artist. :o
I love your work! :-*
-
:o A sticky!?
Fully justified, I reckon.
This is an amazing thread, containing, in my opinion, the best paintjobs produced to such a consistently high standard. They truly are stunning, and you just seem to keep raising the bar with each one.
Superb!

Not been able to get as much work done this past week but I did the gun toting office guy yesterday. The pic is blurry but it'll do for now.

Intended to have the goth girl finished today but she'll be finished tomorrow now.

Top notch painting! The skin tones are superb.Extremely well done.

words fail to explain how utterly beautiful these are. Thanx for sharing

Thanks again for the comments everyone.
Finally finished this one.

Just one more left to do now.
-
Again:wow!
Those leggings are unbelievable. You do amazing work.

Superb yet again!
Great nylons.
:-* :-* :-*
Just one more left to do now.
That was the only disappointment.
We want more!
;)

:o
I said it before, out of this world.
only question is alien or deity ? ('cause in the latter we'd have to start a new religion)
P.S. I do hope the optional figs will get your treatement when they come out. ;D
-
I also love this paint job.
Which of your both qualities is this level.
I would believe the higher one, because i do not know how to paint them better.
Excellent job

You are a perfect painter. The tights are amazing.

Beatiful, Stoney! :-*
A pity this thread became unstuck though ;)

More awe inspiring stuff :o :-*

What are your thoughts on the 'bendier' bits of plastic like the sword?
-
What are your thoughts on the 'bendier' bits of plastic like the sword?
A few bits like that are rather bendy but the paintwork survives a bit of movement so as long as it's handled sensibly it's not a problem. I didn't spray undercoat these though so I don't know if that would make any difference.
Thanks again for all the comments everyone :)
-
A-maze-ing!
-
Great stuff. I'm getting Jealous.
-
Last one done. The face is a little plain and expressionless for someone who's dashing about on roller skates and wielding a chainsaw but it looks better in real life (honest). ;)
I'll be doing bases for these today I reckon and then there are a few Studio Miniatures survivors to do as part of the same commission.
-
Another excellent paint job. Wow!
I love your skills, the skin looks perfect.
It can not be done better.
THANK YOU for sharing!

Lovely!

And even better news is that there will be more minis going into this thread!

Excellent work on all these minis. :-*
-
Brilliant! Do we get a group shot when they're based?
-
Just noticed this thread.
Amazing painting, always a pleasure looking at your work thanks for posting.
Cheers BF.
-
Work is progressing at a snails pace right now due to circumstances beyond my control so the only update I have is regarding the bases. I was going to use resin bases but they ended up being unsuitable so I made my own over the weekend. The tiles and paving slabs are just plastic sheet scored with a file (not very clear in the pic I'm afraid), the tarmac is wet & dry paper (fancy resin bonded sandpaper by any other name) and the litter is pewter sheet. I was intending to have these painted and all the Zombicide models based up by now but it's been a rather trying couple of weeks.
-
Nice!!
I hope all the personal stuff works out bud!
-
I am always impressed by your paintjob. Just curious : how long does it take you to paint a single Zombicide miniature ?
-
Seriously OMG :o
-
I am always impressed by your paintjob. Just curious : how long does it take you to paint a single Zombicide miniature ?
It depends on the model really. Some of the simpler pieces may have taken an afternoon whilst others a full day. Bear in mind though that I'm easily distracted so I do tend to wander off every now and again which makes putting an exact time on things difficult. ;)
Got a cople of Studio Miniatures pieces done which are part of the same commission.
Just a couple of Studio zombies to do then I can get everything based up.
-
Aw man, this thread keeps getting better and better.
-
Not-Michone's face is... well....awesome.....
-
Wonderful additions, as usual.
Even on a particularly awkward sculpt like 'not-Michone' (that poncho thing just does not sit right with me...), lovely PJ's.
:-* :-* :-*
Bear in mind though that I'm easily distracted so I do tend to wander off every now and again which makes putting an exact time on things difficult. ;)
That sums up my 'painting/modelling time' perfectly!
Easy to get distracted and wander off doing something completely different all the time...
-
This thread blows my mind every time I check back. Such great painting skills, and a really strong individual style too; after seeing the Red Box minis you did before, I think I'd recognise your stuff anywhere. Just lovely.
-
I am feeling like a groupie because i could cry like a little girl every time i see a new piece of your fantastic work.
What are these new minis i do not recognize them?
-
Amazing once again...and thanks for the answer.
Could you post a step by step or tutorial when you have time ? Your paintjob is so "smooth".
-
Very nice stuff, I've just received my Studio zeds, so I'm going to make a trip into the city for some hobby suplies and then I'll be able to get cracking. You've got some very inspiring stuff.
-
As ever, thanks for the positive comments everyone. Always much appreciated. :)
That sums up my 'painting/modelling time' perfectly!

I think I'll make a cup of coffee. What music shall I listen too? What was that thing I meant to look up online? Ooh, post! I'll just put these new models in the correctly labelled box with all the other boxes that constitute the lead pile. The CD's finished what shall I listen to now? That coffee has gone straight through me, I need to go pee. I'll just have a quick look on the forums. I'm bored with this CD I think I'll put something on Youtube on. What shall I watch on Youtube? I want to look at those new models again. I got an email. Oh it's lunchtime now!
It's a wonder I get anything bloody done! lol
What are these new minis i do not recognize them?
They're from Studio Miniatures. I'm not up to date with certain TV series or films so I honestly don't know who they're supposed to represent but it seems they are 'not' versions of characters. The client wanted them painting as part of the same commission so I thought I'd stick them here.
Could you post a step by step or tutorial when you have time ? Your paintjob is so "smooth".
I've planning for ages to do more tutorial stuff as there seems to be enough interest but time constraints have generally been the issue. It's also awkward to show some things in still pictures alone so I'm looking into getting a video camera but that's not as simple as I'd hoped (if anyone seriously knows their stuff when it comes to camcorders drop me a PM).
-

Oih!
You spying on me or something?!?
That is a perfect description of me whenever I sit down to start doing some painting/modelling.
:D

Never mind painting I work from home and that sounds lik my work day! :o
-
Almost done....
The zombie 'pets' for what's her name.

And bases painted ready for mounting the models on.

Wow! Superb :o
-
Nicely done man. Great looking commission.
-
Up to the usual so-high standard we have all come to expect and love.
:-*
I really like your subtle blended style, and it certainly suits the subject material perfectly.
-
Job done at last! Thought I'd take a quick top down pic for now just to show the bases. I'll do better individual pics later.
The Studio Miniatures blend in quite well I reckon.

Lovely work mate.

Lovely!
Looking forward to the next set of finished piccies.

Perfect! ;D

Perfect! ;D
I could not agree more.

Your painting is the best I have ever seen. You make things look so real, so perfect. I hate you*! lol
*just jealous really, amazing stuff!

I've just uploaded finished pics of everything to my Zombicide Gallery (http://stonecoldlead.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=14331095) where you can see the individual models from different angles.
Here's a couple of group shots though.

That's me done for the day so I'm off to make a cup of tea and spend the rest of the afternoon playing NFS Most Wanted. Have a good Christmas and remember it's all about the presents and food! ;)

Great stuff, makes me jealous
-
Now that I see them all together I don't think they are all that good.....they are great!!!!!!! :o :D
-
Ridiculously well painted.
I'll be sure to keep out an eye for the rest of your work.
-
Beautiful :)
My Zombicide box arrived today, this is certainly inspirational.
-
Absolutely fantastic work.
-
Sorry for the threadomancy but I've not been on LAF for a couple of months. come back and see this...... :o :-*
Wow! Great stuff. The detailing on the miniatures is immense. Topped off by the bases which as they aren't over the top with extra detailing really, REALLY finish them off nicely.
You sir, are an inspiration to us all. Can I be another asking that this great thread is stickied for posterity?
-
Thats some impressive painting :o, is there any chance you can tell me the colors used for the Skin tone?
-
Thats some impressive painting :o, is there any chance you can tell me the colors used for the Skin tone?
I think I may have painted these when I still had the old GW Tallarn Flesh but I'm not 100% sure so I may have used VMC USA Tan Earth instead (as far as my recipe goes the two are interchangeable). Anyway, base colour was one of those two plus a little VGC Beasty Brown. First highlight was just pure Tallarn Flesh or USA Tan Earth and then I began adding VGC Bonewhite to the mix for subsequent layers until I was using neat Bonewhite for th elightest highlights. I added a little white then for some fo the sharpest highlights. Finished it all off with a glaze of old GW Ogryn Flesh wash (for the glaze I just dilute it right down until there's barely any colour left).
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the comments by the way Chilledenuff.
-
Thats very helpfull thank you :)
