Hi guys and Gals
Hope some of these pics help you with your terrain builds as you can see its all about technique and due process , so achievable by most im sure.I`m allways hapy to answer any questions you may have.
By the way all this started because of the 20 painted figs in the first picture that i won on e bay ,what then took over was the fun we had playing a modified version of Trench Broom skirmish rules,a free five page set,ask if you want a copy.
Cheers AL

Very insightful. This is great. The attention to detail is superb. Thanks for sharing.
-
awesome terrain. Always love to see how it gets build too.
Looking forward to seeing more.

:o :o :o
Great pictures! I really like the ruined church and nice to see how it came together. Did you use resin pieces available for all of us? ;). I think I recognise some Pegasus pieces but can't figure out the yellow pieces.

Stunning stuff, the building complex is brilliant

Ok Conflix do an ancient ruin in the picture there are two of these(the yellow pieces) but one is chopped in half :P
Yes the Pegasus pre painted walls are also there.
There is a Airfix (20mm) church there as wellive rubbled the front up to hide the size of the front entrance(i should have used the Hovels 28mm destroyed church for this).
The crypt floor is Wills patio stone plasticard.
The crypt walls started as embossed stone plasticard the A4 cheep version (cant remember the name)
The crypt walls then were overlayed with a sheet of Noch railway tunnel sidings chopped up(this is a dark grey embossed foam on a card backer)
This represents a French Abbey if you take a second look the overall shape is a cross ,Spike told me this is how they built abbeys.

Fantastic, and so much terrain to choose from. Don't suppose you live nearby do you? Wouldn't mind getting a game in with all that on the board! :D
-
Stunning! Many thanks for pics.
-
That is simply jaw dropping. :o
I love the little details that really make the separate pieces unique. It the ramdom detritus that says WW1 battlefield. The Abbey is simply amazing every time I look I can see something new.
It is also a good reminder that proper planning can have brilliant results.
-
Thanks for this, a truly inspirational post.
I said it before but will say it again the abbey is an outstanding piece.
-
Wow. Stunning all round. The ruins are fabulous. Very well done.
-
Stunning amount of lovely work :-* :-* :-* :-*
How long did it take?

How long did it take?
Everything you see 4 months o_o
-
4 months? Wow. That's impressive. It would take me that long to think about getting round to thinking about it!
-
That surely is one of the best terrain I've seen in years! Great work! 8)
-
Fantastic scenery, I adore the big building and the little touches like the graveyard, destroyed coffins that have been exposed.... Such brilliant work.
-
Excellent work!
More pics next time! ;)
-
I'd just like to add in to the rest of the praise, Fantastic work! I always think its one of the hardest things to get right is the amount, and placing, of the rubble for a ruined building, but you have it spot on!! :-* :-* :-*
The whole things brill!!!
-
I love the fact that the table is so changeable. This is a masterpiece.
-
It's difficult to say anything else, so I won't even try! Amazing :o :o :-* :-*
-
Thanks guys i hope its given some of you new ideas and that you will give them a try,he who dares( ends up with some wargames kit ;) )
Cheers AL

Very nice as said by the others. How did you do the sandbags?

That is Milliput rolled out like a snake wet and slightly flatten the snake with soapy water ,i flatten it with a piece of mesh to start the textured finish, then cut each one with a stanley blade and drop into place ,when youve done a few once again wet and gently press the mesh again they seem to find there own saggy shape using this method.

-
Cripes...that's nothing short of lovely.
-
so when do you want my address for delivery :D lol lol
this is stunning and i will be stealing your ideas ;)
-
Superb - love the ruins.
That's another project I've got to get back to at some time - more WW1 terrain. :(
-
Fantastic! You've convinced me to build some modular terrain now and not fixed boards. I'm amazed at how good it looks.
I've got a couple of questions for you.
What did you use for barbed wire? I was going to use Gale Force 9 but figure I'll need a lot of it!
Did you coat you trees before you painted them? I've use twigs before and ended up with borers in them. Little pile of sawdust appeared after a while.
Any other tips regarding the materials you've used would be great fully accepted.
-
As said, the attention to detail makes this very special - a triumph. :)
The piles of rubble look amazing - are all those bricks and debris hand made?
Also, I'd like to know how heavy the abbey piece weighs!! :o

Q: Wherabouts are you in the world
cheers Alan

Hi Alan
I'm in sunny Newcastle, Australia. We've just set some new temperature records here, so hot that a paint dries on a brush before you can get near a figure.
I'm thinking of doing some terrain instead!

The large and small` square `bricks are bought items the rest in small stone agrogate, and the Abbey weighs as much as a handfull of stone +three resin buildings and a plywood base so to my mind its quite light for its size, remember its just foam otherwise.

We have some steal mesh that is cut in strips to create the wire(do you need a pic of material).Different continent ,guess your criters are meaner than ours when it comes to eating wood and no didnt coat the privot/hedge(wood) ?

An amazing undertaking, seen through to a masterpiece finish.
Sublime!
:-* :-* :-*
-
Gosh.
That's some terrain-building! Inspirational. ;D
-
Fabulous terrain. One wouldn't know where to look first with such a table. Nice to see a decent amount of rubble around the ruins for a change. 8) :-*
-
Amazing, I was hoping to build modular trench boards one day (not a huge fan of them) and you have turned me away from that. Beautiful work, on an ugly subject :)
-
Excellent work! :-* :-* :-*
Just great.
How didi you make the sandbags?
Mjolnir, from Flanders

Thx
I prefer the 1914 period because it's no static war

Very, very nicely done.

That's amazing!!

Really love your terrain, very inspirational! Especially love the bomb out cemetary with all the exposed coffins! :-* The up turned pie/cake tins for craters is also a nice thought.
