Hi
I'm a long time browser of this forum but a new member! I have just started a new blog based around Thomas Kyriell's army at the battle of Formigny in 1450.
It can be found over at: http://formigny1450.blogspot.co.uk/ (http://formigny1450.blogspot.co.uk/)
As I say in the blog, if you have any information on the liveries worn by the retainers of Kyriell, Gough etc. I'd be very grateful to hear it :)
Cheers
Matt

Good start, Matt. Noch weiter!
I look forward to your posts.

Good start matt and welcome to the forum :)

Very interesting project - I just finished reading David Nicolle's 'The Fall of English France' (Osprey Campaign 241) which is a very good read and has a lot of good information on Formigny, including battlefield maps as well as some lovely colour plates by Graham Turner. Highly recommended if you haven't already got it.
Great work on the first retinue - lovely figure builds and beautiful painting.
(Thanks for the name check by the way ;))
-
Cheers everyone!
Captain Blood - Yeah, I've picked that up. It's been really useful in this (though no livery in there sadly!)
No worries! Credit where credit's due ;)

Hi everyone,
Just posted an update with a few conversions I've been working on

More on the blog.. ;)

Excellent compositions - looking good.

Thanks Chaps!

Like the conversions. Especially like the shouting figure. May be borrowing that one! Cheers.

I like your converted Perry figures - well done. ;)

Are those two Morcombe and Wise?
Haha could well be ;) I must admit I'm not a massive fan of that bare head - it just looks way too big for the body! He has too much hair!

Another small update with a model to represent Matthew Gough

Hope you like! :D

Matt,
It's great to see this battle being covered as it's certainly a crucial but overlooked part of the HYW- especially on this side of the Channel!
Apart from the Osprey suggested by Captain Blood there isn't all that much written in English that I can think of that would help you with the liveries of the main persona. I've got a fairly comprehensive list of liveries from from the HYW and WoR and their various owners so I'll have a dig and see if I can come up with anything for you. Fingers crossed! :)
Darrell.

Very nice.

Forgot to add that I've added your Blog to my links on my wsebite, http://darrellhindley.co.uk/ and my La Journee blog, http://lajourney-bedford.blogspot.co.uk/ blog.
As soon as I figure out what's going on with the links section on Gewalthaufen, http://gewalthaufen.blogspot.co.uk/ and Just Add Water http://justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.co.uk/ I'll add the links there too.
BTW, is it possible to add hyper links over the titles of my blog and website names without showing the actual URL's?
Darrell.

Coming along nicely :)

God - it's been a while since I posted in here but I'm resurrecting it like a plastic Lazarus. After seven years I've decided to continue with it by building the command stand of Robert Vere, another of the commanders at Formigny.

I've also had a go at trying to represent some harness from the first half of the 15th C by modifying some of the Perry Agincourt models.

Welcome back! :D Missed this thread when it first started, catching up on it now, and great work!
Nice execution on the earlier armour patterns! Looking forward to seeing them painted up!
-
This does look like a wonderful project. Very well done!
-
Ooh! Great stuff! I will be following this with interest both on your blog (we really need to support the gradual decline in blogging IMHO) and here on LAF 8)
Keep up the goodly work sir! :)
-
Thanks guys - good to be back :)
Updates are still likely to be a bit thin on the ground due to the amount of time I actually get to paint these days but I'll keep them coming :)

Just added a new post onto the blog for the last English commander at Formigny - Henry Norbury.

Very nice conversions!
-
Great stuff 8)
Some seamless blending of the 'HYW' and 'WoR' boxes with the conversions work too. not to mention the brushwork 8)
-
Great additions, and excellent hybridization of the WOTR and HYW sets 8)
-
Lovely brushwork on the command stands and effective work on the livery.
-
Excellent work! Are Norbury's arms from the Agincourt knight set?
-
Thanks for the kind words guys :)

No I found them on Wikipedia and then knocked up a basic standard on Microsoft Word :D black and white standards are my favourite to paint as they don't take long!

Oh sorry I meant his actual arms on his body, rather than his heraldry :D
(Thanks for clarifying the coat-of-arms though!)

I have a question if I may? Did you use a laser printer to print out the banner? The reason I ask is that inkjet printers bleed when I add varnish; I've tried several "tricks" to remedy this, like using a fixer for the ink post print but nothing thus far has worked very well.

I just used a standard inkjet to print it but I didn't varnish this one (or the last one actually). I used a hell of alot of PVA to stick it on though and it seems once that's dried it creates a fairly solid flag. I think I varnished the first couple of banners I did though but I didn't have any issues with ink bleeding. Sorry I can't be of more help!

I'm stumped then o_o

Do you need to varnish paper flags? I don't varnish mine.
Unless you are saying you affix the flags before the varnishing stage/
I varnish the figures, then add the flags.

Hi guys,
Got another update with some English Longbowmen. I realised my last update was almost exactly a month ago, so a month a unit isn't too bad considering how rarely I paint. Think it may be testament to the usefulness of GW's contrast paints! As always more on the blog :)

The finished unit looks great! The mix of WotR and Agincourt arms works really well!

Looking good!

Are you using water-based varnish? Ink-jet printer inks are generally water soluble. I’ve used solvent-based varnish on mine without any problems. .

Cheers guys :)

I gave the banner for this unit a coat of Army Painter anti shine varnish spray and that didn't make the colours run etc. :)

Hi guys,
Another blog update with another unit of Longbowmen. I've incorporated a few of the Agincourt heads for a little variety.
My next update may not be for a while as we have a new arrival due at the end of the month so I'll probably be doing more catching up on sleep rather than painting lol

Thanks guys :) thoroughly fed up of painting bows now so looking forward to a change!

Nicely done. I like the kitbashing on the standard bearer 8)

Lovely brushwork :-*

Agreed. The natural pose is spot on. 8)
-
Very nice unit!
I'm also painting lots of archers right now and find them rather tiresome - I think it's because a lot of them have poses that have awkward places to reach with the brush, and lots of arrow flights and bags/quivers are an extra chore. I look forward to painting a pike or pole arm unit which I find much easier!!

Thanks :) yeah that's part of the issue. I used the GW contrast paints on these and found they made a hell of a difference to getting them done quicker, particularly with things like sheafs of arrows etc. I know what you mean about pole arms etc. Looking forward to doing some Men at Arms next and priming them silver which saves so much time!

Oh, are the gambeson contrast paints? They work really well. Do you use the special GW contrast primer or not?

I used the contrast paints to shade the gambesons, but they were basically an off white basecoat which was shaded and then highlighted before getting a thinned down coat of Army Painter strong tone to 'dirty it up'. I used contrast on pretty much all of the clothes though - saved me a hell of alot of time. I've never used the GW dedicated sprays, just the Army Painter ones and they seem to work fine :)
