Title: Zombicide Season 2 Kickstarter
Post by: Mike D. Mc Brice on March 02, 2013, 04:15:14 PM
Here you go:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/zombicide-season-2

Everybody who hasn't been there at the first 5 minutes has missed a pretty impressive sight. When I visited the page at around 17:00 there where already nearly a hundred backers. This went up like a rocket. This funded in 4 minutes. o_o

Yep. Crazy how quick this has been funded and how much its gone to so far in such a short time. I was there a few minutes after the start and missed out on the early bird specials as I was pledging.

tell me about it.
I was there at 17.00. already 10 early pledgers for the $140 deal.
went through the whole login and Amazon pages and got notified that reward wasn't possible anymore.
back to the main KS page and the counter said 107/100 backers.  :o

Well, did pledge the fugitive  :D

Pledged myself a bit to late for early bird...

Thanks for posting about this Kickstarter, I heard it was starting soon but didn't have a start date on it. I put in at Fugitive Level.

I've been VERY tempted, but i choose for something more... pratical:

Since i don't have the first one, maybe I should start with that. No waiting, same result for me =)

I'm in as well on fugitive level :D

This is not really helping the wallet, paint resolution or the lead pile, that with all those zombies is slowly changing into a "dead pile".

I realy hope that the dogs are going to be nice sculpts and that the scenario support will again be great.

Oh my so much temptation, as a backer of the first season i so want to drop in there but than i still try to figure out how to explain all the other kick starter packages which will arrive over the course of this year o_o. Most likely going to pledge anyways, there is no such thing as having to much zombies  :D.

I am in for the Raise the dead level.

I gave the first round a miss because I did not want to spend a lot of money on a game that I might not like. But now that I have tried it I am "All In".

Backed for all the new bits - really enjoyed Zombicide (and even got the missus, my parents and the inlaws playing it at various times, to a good reception!) so it seemed like a good plan :)

I really wanted some of the limited Survivor minis from the first one (Chuck Norris, Pulp Fiction et al) but couldn't bring myself to buy into the game as I hate all things Zombie.  Now I find myself wanting the Dirty Harry mini and same dilemma.  Oh well.

I own both game and zombicide does not have much in common with All things zombies.

If you do not like zombies anyhow this game is not for you. But if you like zombies, a fast paced and exciting boardgame than this is the right thing for.

Sorry.  I meant I hate anything zombie-related.  I wasn't referring to any specific game, just shambling undead in general.  I never understood the fascination.  But the first zombiecide KS had some really neat survivor sculpts.

I see only a couple of people have commented on the game itself. Is it really that earth shatteringly good or is it a case of those who pledged to the original collecting the set?

I watched the preview videos for the first release and was not that impressed. I can understand people getting excited of the hundreds of minis that look very nice but who is actually playing the game?

I have Last Night on Earth which is easy to pick up, fast and fun and needs the players to co operate or die. What is the attraction of Zombicide as a game (not an excuse to buy well packaged Zombies?)

I don't know if it is earth shatteringly good. But it is pretty damned good.

I had the exact same thoughts about the first kickstarter why all the hype? what if the game sucks?

After having tried it a few times I really like it. It is a really tense and quite hard game. I have had loads of fun playing it and I really regret not getting on board with the first kickstarter.

I joined in more for the figs than for the game (the whole area movement/firing thing seemed odd)
However, having played some 5 games already, i can say it's a winner.
A bit weird to play co-op, not in the least since we normally enjoy giving other players a hard time  ;)
What's also a big plus is the that the game is perfect for 3 players. (actualy, 4 players is the least interesting scenario because then you only get 4 survivors on the board.)

I'd rate zombicide as medium-good but not great.

I have not played LNoE but IIRC my understanding is either a 'team' or a 'GM' controls the zombie action and that player doesn't have a 'survivor' to control, so it seems 'us vs them'.   OTOH Zombicide the zombies follow rules and so all players are survivors.

Now, criticism.

#1 I Totally dislike the idea that One of my team-mates can be in a sector with zombies and if I shoot and hit...I hit him first.  Yea, he could holding back a zombie who is frantically biting at him...or he could be ducked down behind the gas station counter hoping the zombie doesn't notice him.  At least give me a chance at successfully hitting the zombie.  Something like a hit penalty, or all misses hit survivors, or random roll to see if survivor vs zombie gets hit, etc.

#2 Seems like too much of a copy of L4Dead.  Big 'abomination'(tank) at the end which can only be taken out by a molotov.  Fatty = belcher.

#3 Poor implementation and diversification of firearms.

#4 vehicle rules are very awkward and confusing.

#5 too 'movie action' and 'tongue in cheek' for my taste.  I dislike dual-wielding uzis, and rollerskating around with a chainsaw lopping off zombie heads.

#6 too many times I think 'this rule is absolutely stupid'.

Example #1.  Your survivor standing there trying to be as quiet as possible is equally loud as a gunshot.

Example #2.  In a single 'turn' first survivor can run up and do a bunch of chainsaw attacks.  Next guy can 'borrow' the chainsaw and himself do a bunch of chainsaw attacks.  Third guy can borrow the chainsaw and do a bunch of attacks, etc etc.

Example#3 .  If you are in a room you can search it just once...per turn.  So a guy who walks into a room with 2 actions cannot search twice.  But the whole team can be in the room and each member search once...then next turn each member search once...then next turn each member search once.  (Do this early and you get kick ass equipment and the zombie horde doesn't spawn fast because you are 0 experience so you get the lowest zombie results, and always the easy zombies.  Also, no extra zombies due to splitting group rules.  Then when the horde of weaklings get close you get your xp killing easy zombies, so when the difficult ones show up you have great weapons and great skills.

Example #1.  Your survivor standing there trying to be as quiet as possible is equally loud as a gunshot.

I'd say the zombies can "smell his brain". They don’t moan about braaaaaaaaaaains for nothing ;)

Example #2.  In a single 'turn' first survivor can run up and do a bunch of chainsaw attacks.  Next guy can 'borrow' the chainsaw and himself do a bunch of chainsaw attacks.  Third guy can borrow the chainsaw and do a bunch of attacks, etc etc.

This is not true in reality. Borrowing the chainsaw costs 1 action and moving costs one action. So in most situations, survivor 1 ends up in the same space as survivor 2. Survivor 2 first needs to spend an action to get the chainsaw, then move up one square and then spend an action to attack…spending all three actions for one chainsaw attack (or he can make two attacks at level 2). Sure, if the zombies are in the same square as survivor 1, you don’t need to move, but still…it’s not very efficicient.

Mainly depends on the luck of the draw. We did this once, but mainly got rice, water and other junk and no interesting weapons. Result was a horde of zombies blocking the streets, making movement hard.
And even if you manage to find kickass weapons, you still have to plough through a lot of zombies in the streets before you can enter buildings. Chances are you’re spawning in ‘the yellow’ when you enter and then you’re really having a hard time to keep up the pace. And you DON’T want to enter a building when you’re in the orange…
IMO that’s the best thing about the game. You need to have a good balance between speed and being thorough and careful. Too fast and you end up without good weaponry and chances are you get split up. Too slow and you’re facing a very difficult end game with hordes of zombies (and often with extra bonus turns for them).

*****

I don’t really care for the expansions, I think it’s a good game as it is now. The only thing I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like is to get my hands on the equipment cards. That’s my main problem with Zombicide: not enough variation in the weapons.

I've played Zombicide with a number of my gaming and non-gaming friends. Everyone has had a great time. In my area, WH40K and WarmaHordes rule the landscape. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get people to try something new. This game seems to appeal to a wide range of people. One of the best games so far was during the recent blizzard "Nemo". We lost power during the middle of the game and ended up playing for an hour and a half by lantern light! Fighting zombies in the dark, very "cinematic"!  lol

Well, it's over.
Seems to have done quite well...
I took part only because I developed a professional interest in crowd funding, of course...
I'm quite happy with the goals and rewards, and they broke the 2 million barrier. So it was a very interesting experience.
Come September, I will direct my research towards zombie painting...

Strangely enough, given I've "dabbled" with zombies, the whole Zombicide thing leaves me cold.

Maybe it is because there are already plenty of zombie board games out there, maybe it's because I wrote my own rules but I haven't felt the urge to jump on board with either "Season" of this.

Yes, you get a whole bunch of plastic figures, but with lots of multiple copies....

Expect i will pickup a copy on fleabay in a couple of years for a fraction of the price.

I bought season one and love the game, but didn't back season 2. I'm not that stuffed about the quality of Zombicide miniatures. They are a b*tch to clean. I am actually thinking of buying the studio miniatures plastic zombies an the wargames factory vixens and upcoming survivors.

I was in to back this but after playing season one and creating my own survivors and equipment cards I didn't feel the need to spend all that money on something I can easily adapt to my liking. I love the game and I'll probably get season 2 somewhere down the line but for now I have plenty to be getting on with with all the free scenarios and homemade stuff not to mention all of the zombies and survivors I already own that will be added to the game.

You thought they were hard to clean?  Strange, I had the opposite reaction, I thought they were quite clever in he sculpting, a good amount of detail, but not a pain to paint up...  But the Wargames stuff looks awesome too! :)

I'm almost a bit ashamed to say I went to the complete package...

Cleaning up the models from the first set wasn't that much a hassle, using a sharp scalpel and some needle file it was easily done. The sculpts were of a good quality as well. They probably could have been done a bit better, but somehow painting them went really easy. just the right amount of detail on them to facilitate nice and fast paint jobs.

Anyhow I always liked having movie characters on table since I bought the B-team from foundy. While in the end it's a lot of money, I know I'll have a lot of fun painting and playing with a lot of these guys in one role or another. Most of them might even perfomr better then my rubber bullet team :p

Next this, I found out that the game works well with all kinds of visitors, even the ones that normally play only board and no miniature games.

And with this Zombicide campaign closed, my KS backing of projects is officially finished. I simply can't afford, nor will I likely ever need, to buy any more models for quite some time.

Oh yeah ! I'll definitly be pledging on that 3rd season. And as for the sneaking, no problem there. gave the missus her marching orders 6 months ago  ::).
So beside this rather expensive KS, I'll still be able to burn some cash at Salute  ;D

Got me the whole season 2 package (as i already own an abo set from 1). Yeah its quiet a lot of cash but than its just so many neat figures. Already thining on using the survivors for gang fights (Walking Dead Style) in the Zombieapocalypse world.

Not going to end backing games with neat miniatures (lokking at you Warzone Resurrection^^)  8).

Ofc i'll be on board for the next campaign even if its just to have it all. But than you have so much possebilitys with that game and i can play it even with ppl which usually just make fun of my mini stash  :D.

Oh I agree about the figures and the game itself, but the number of campaigns / amount of money I've put into various campaigns in the past year is way more than it should be. If I even paint 1/10th of what I have acquired I think that would be around 150~175 figures. :S

At least they're arriving slowing and not all at once!

Has anyone received the follow up email on this kickstarter yet?  This was my first and not sure how long they take to get our orders straight. Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

I haven't yet received it either, but I'm not worried. Getting things organised can take quite some time especially with a lot of backers. Next to this apparently amazons isn't always so quick either with giving the email adresses of the backers and that normally takes some time as well.

Hello Oliver!

Yes, I've been meaning to for a long while but was one of those things I never got around to

If I'd known the smilies were that good I would have done so ages ago  o_o

So, about this kickstarter....

Sorry, I'm in the US and it would probably be cheaper for you if you found someone in the UK.  If you can't drop me a PM

Anyone get the balance of their KS S1 Suvivors/Zombivors?

Didn't get anyhting yet, then again, the zombivors would ship at the same time as season 2. Though I already have seen some of the zombivors and extra characters from season 1 on ebay for extraordinairy prices ($100 for two models...  o_o)

No, I mean the balance of the S1 Survivor/Zombivor Exclusives.  I got something that said they would ship a week or so ago and I haven't heard anything since.

I got mine on Tuesday (went straight onto eBay ;)) - They were sent from the UK (Battlefoam) and I had quite a few UPS emails about shipping and tracking before hand.

Incidently, I'm sure you all know, but both Marvin and Eva are less 'Tarantino' than the original green/concept art.

Cheers Vern,

May I ask from whom the emails came from?  CMON or Battlefoam?

Cheers!

I got an email the day before from the KS (so basically Cmon), and then two emails on the day of delivery from UPS (with tracking info etc) - followed by another email from CKPM Admin (again probably Cmon) linking me back to the UPS tracking!

The mail from KS also states:

Quote
We are shipping the EU orders through Battlefoam in the UK, which is a bonus for those of you there since you won't need to deal with customs issues

Ok, my last email was 29/4, so a week or so ago.  It says they will email/mail in batches, so I assume I'm in a later 'batch'.... Cheers!

Pledge manager from CMON is up now. I got my email about an hour ago and had it all filled out in less than five minutes. Cost me way too much money...but it's zombies! :D

Same here - as this is my first Kickstarter pledge I was a bit worried it would be messy, but the set-up was very easy to use.

Ditto!

I didn't buy one survivor in season 1 because I could not reckognize who the miniature looked like and now I don't have a Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the city)...  If only I would have let the missus take a look at the miniatures before finalizing my pledge, I would have know in time  lol.

This time I went for all the models. Ridiciously expensive, but then again, a lot of really cool "heroes" for use in not only Zombie games, but also other modern day games. Not really looking forward to this years received vs. painted tally... I happy with getting 5-10% of what arrives this year painted :D

Now that the pledge thingy is up, is there anyone UK based able to go in for a set for me?

I almost opted not to get the "Helen" figure because I was $10 of picking up everything. In the end I decided to add it anyway, in hopes that she'll look more like Scully from X-Files. Either way, it's another female zombie I can add to my horde.

The artist specials, and the moustache packs are the ones I'm most looking forward to though. The one artist pack looks like it's got Lemmy from Motorhead and Nikki from Motley Crue in it! If anyone were going to survive the zombie apocalypse...

Sorry, I'm not UK based and had already maxed out my cc :S
Did you try asking at Frothers as well, maybe some nice chaps over there can help you out?

That is a good option as well, last year I also got in the zombicide and dreadball kickstarters after they had finished. Both I only knew about  after the kickstarters closed. I'd suggest to email asap, since they might not take on newcomers too long after the kcikstarter ended.
