Link to a game play demo of this new game. Regardless of how it places. I think the concept is pretty badass. I am thinking of doing this in 15mm Any idea as to what to use for Titans? (Mechs)
-
Unfortunately I think the game looks super boring (COD-esque...snooze fest). The concept is okay. You can find a TON of Japanese anime style mecha for reasonably cheap online. Easy to modify into something like those Titans.

Boring? Really, I think it looks pretty good.

Oh totally COD ripe off, the old original designee team for COD made the game. And not to boring to me. But is it over the top? Totally :D lol
I like the grittiness of it. I will check out the E-bays, and maybe find some of the not to flashily mecha to try.
-
Looks cool. Those mechs are pretty similar scaled to a lot of the ones I have been using for my 28mm games. For 15mm you could probably look for mechs in the 5-7cm range. Don't discount toy lines.
-
I really like the look of that. Don't quite get the whole robot Jedi thing though with the force push on the bullets.
Looks fun. Looks a lot like that dream pod 9, heavy gear stuff.
-
I think the force thing is supposed to be a magnetic field or some such thing.
-
I imagined as much, just seems a bit far fetched lol. Oh yeah, this is a thread about walking machines. I may be getting this game.

Yeah, it does look really boring to me. I'm absolutely sapped out on the overly repetitive FPS regardless of how you dress it up. This game just screams COD. If that's your thing, that's fine, but COD is the Michael Bay of video games. Definitely not my cup of tea. I went cold turkey off of FPS's a couple years ago, and I've never been happier gaming. lol
-
You might have some luck looking through Reaper's CAV range for mechs. They are reputedly "N scale" which can I think is 1:160. Not sure if they would be big enough to what's shown in the game, but I've been having a look at lots of 1:144 mech models from Japan (Macross etc.). They do look a bit tooooooo characteristic of that genre, but some could be a bit more generic. However, they are massive. I can't tell how big the mechs are supposed to be from the video. You can buy a fair bit of infantry and armour in 1:144 scale, too, so it might be worth checking it out.
However 15mm seems to nestle somewhere around the N-scale mark so it might be an option for you.
As to video games in general, I can't say they hold my attention for very long... unloess there's a really juicy storyline e.g. Fallout 3. Although visually it's quite cool, I can already see myself pinching some ideas from it.
I really love a very old game called Slave-Zero which had you in a big robot suit combating the tiny military :) It's a bit dated now but here's some footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ3gz8j2v2g
-
I believe the suits are about 24feet tall. So I am guessing two stories high on average.
I am leaning towards the Kruasan miniatures Earth Doom, Corsair Battle Dress suits

Maybe with hand replacements. Any body have any of these? Maybe post up a pic for size comparisons.
Oh and another good on from Kurasan.

Nice find!!!!

Who took up those micropanzer Russian power troops? They would be pretty good.
-
(face palm) ;D
Rebel Miniatures took them on. I had complete forgotten about them to. Were is my mind :P

LOL! :o
Ok I ordered a few sets from Kurasan, and will give them a test.
-
Good idea for a game to take to tabletop. I liked the E3 demo; especially the bit where he punched into the other mech and pulls out the pilots before flinging him off into the distance lol
-
How about the Heavy Gear Blitz stuff??
I'am tempted into getting some of the Robots from them to act as Orbital drop suits for my 15mm armies. Personally I prefer Tanks/Wheeled/Grav vehicles in the conventional sense as the base vehicle for my armies, but robots I always thought would be good for Future Marines/Deep strike forces.
-
Agreed, for as cool as "eco suits" are. They would still be out matched by tanks, for fire power and armor. But I am thinking they would make a decent raid force. And in theory be lighter and easier to move then a modern main battle tank.
I am also thinking about the gear blitz stuff.
I will give some of there figures a try also. Main thing is I am trying the other ranges first becase they are cheaper.
-
Yeah Heavy Gear Blitz is a bit on the expensive side thats fo' sure!
-
So what rules would you use for this?
I have been having a browse on Wargames Vault... any suggestions?
-
Now that is the hard part. I have the "Tomorrow war" rules.
But I don't know if they will have the right feel. I will have to look through the rules and figure it out. I am envision small commando style raids. With Opratives and pilots supported by limited AI and pilotable "Titans, Orgers, Trolls, Ursas, Windagos..etc" air borne support and drone combat squads.
Thinking bleeding edge tech.
Maybe almost even "Infinity" esc with out actually being infinity. :P
Any ideas or suggestions?

As Titanfall is being made by the crew at Infinity Ward, I'm pretty certain that The Battlefield (http://www.wargamevault.com/product/102355/The-Battlefield-Miniature-Modern-Warfare?filters=0_0_0_44363) will work really well. ;)
Most of the weapons like the R-101, Smart Pistol, Titan XO-16, Titan Rocket Launcher, Satchel, etc. are already represented by modern/hard sci-fi counterparts.
Game Modes should be comparable. Hardpoint is essentially the same thing as Conquest.
Battlefield supports up to 8 players
Not only that, but Battlefield is one of the only games that requires vehicles to be crewed.
I'm sure the designer could be talked into making some special rules for 'mech jacking'. 8)
-
Never heard of this rule set before. I will give it a try.
-
It was available in a bundle with Havoc and Brink of Battle... might still be. That's how I got it, anyway. Haven't really read it, though... might warrant a good look now :)
-
I ordered the rules, and I will read them when I am more awake lol

Hmmm... what makes you say that? ;D

The Heavy Gear mecha would work very well. But if your going to 15mm size then the current HG line wont help much if your looking to get the feel in size. You would want Gears from the previous line, the more 1/87 scale stuff. The current stuff is 12mm i think IIRC. The original line isn't really 15mm technically, but it does scale nicely.
Dont forget other lines of mecha out there either. Just Google 15mm mecha and you will see a fun ton of options.
As for price for the above mentioned Heavy Gear stuff, yeppers they can get pricey ordering direct. My suggestion is to not do just that. You can find some nice deals online, or peeps selling them, like here on LAF. Conventions coming up. If you need said items now then you will pay. If you can shop around you will find some good deals. And since you would want the previous line you will be doing looking around. :-)

Thanks Grimmnar, and I would be more then happy to check out any mech rules you send are way Voodoo. :D

Saw that on a late night TV game review show. Looks nice, but the gameplay looks a bit too bouncy-runny-munchkin to me. Then again, I might just be getting old... ::) My preference has always gone to the more tactical and stealthy games such as Operation Flashpoint or Deus Ex. So I'll be holding out for the new Tom Clancy game; The Division, which will probably suit my playing style more.
Still; the chance to mix mecha and infantry gameplay does make it interesting. Makes one wonder if this could not be done in the Battletech universe. I've always wanted to play an Elemental... 8)
Don't quite get the whole robot Jedi thing though with the force push on the bullets.
I was immediately reminded of the end of District 9, where the protagonist pilots a small alien mech in a climactic battle. One of its weapons does exactly the same; it catches the bullets fired at it and then magnetically shoots them back like a 75cm caliber shotgun :D
-
I know that I had seen that in movie
-
Way land games are having an up to 50% off sale on heavy gear blitz at the moment.

Thanks Beefcake! lol

I just bought myself a bunch
-
I have passed up good deal here and there at the convention Flea Markets i have hit through the years. Mistakes i wish i could rectify.
I also used to have a few of the old RAFM gears and sold them. Something i wish i hadn't done each time people ask or show projects with the 1/87 Gears.
Really looking forward to what you all come up with.

i would say video game wise it looks like cod blended with halo and a bit of crisis and red fraction guerialla[ buiklding wise ] but the ideas and concepts look interesting
i proberly won't buy it but i will at least read the story line and the universe
