I've put together an Anglo-Dane 4pts Saga Warband, that represents Harold and his huscarls. All painted by Paul Cubbin.

All the figures are Crusader Miniatures.

Stunning!
And bloody gorgeous!
:-* :-* :-*
Off to wipe my chin now....when I have picked it up off the floor, that is.
-
Wow! :-* Great looking group.
-
Beautiful work, love the leaders tunic and for some strange reason the edge of the standard bearers shield lol.
-
Hey! They look familiar!
-
Splendid work Cubs :)

Terrific work,I echo Jeff's comments,Harolds tunic is excellently painted,as are all the figures, love the unit's shields, freehand or transfers or mix of both, any chance of a group shot ?
-
Very tasty.

This. Photos 2 and 3 are feehand (the easy ones!) and the rest are transfers. I'm a real convert to transfers after seeing how good they are now, but they do require some work to 'bed them in' so to speak and dirty them up a little.

Beautiful paintwork :-*

Really quite stunning work! I've got the same figures in my WAB Anglo-Saxon army (except the Harold Godwinson). Mine are not, however, painted to this exemplary standard... :'(

Thanks for reply Cubs, transfers eh ! You've done a great job "blending" them in,seamless, have you any tips you could share on that ? Will understand if it's a trade secret lol.

Fantastic, Harold's tunic is stunning.
-
shields and tunic are fantastic, but what impresses me most is the work on the helms!

Funny enough I'm thinking of doing an article for WSS about it, since my shields seem to get good responses these days. Basically I try to blur the edges of the transfer with dark washes and inks and then put little nicks and scratches, plus general muck and tarnish, all over the surface.
Being Dark Age shields, I also gave these ones leather or metal rims, which help to hide the edges of the transfer. If you paint a little nick in the shield rim, and then carry that nick on into the face of the shield, it also serves to marry up the two sections and helps to fool the eye.

Ah, now these North Star Saxon commissions have been helpful to me in practising the NMM. There's a lot of very eye-catching, simply gorgeous NMM to see online these days, mostly on fantasy models. But that ultra-shiny chrome effect wouldn't have been suitable here; I wanted a grimier, duller feel that still looked like real metal.
It's just about putting contrasting sections of light and shade together really, bending them about a little with the shape of the item, blending them together and being bold. I reserve the pure white for the tiny spot of light at the top of the helm or weapon.
It really is one of those things that look really tricky until you practise practise practise to get an effect you like. Then you realise it's just a process, like anything else.

Fab stuff Nick :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Darell.

Never been a fan of Cubbinses work. He's far too good, and paints with a style that I can never hope to emulate. lol
Outstanding as always!
-
Transfers or no, that is some really excellent work and great colour choices.
-
Top work!

Lovely warband Nick and excellent work from Cubs.

:-* Absolutely stunning work. Coincidentally before looking at this thread a few minutes ago I dug out my Crusader Anglo-Danish Huscarls that have been sitting in their blisters for years. Think I'll just put them back and snap my brushes lol.
