Title: Bullshott's VBCW - New Anglican units completed
Post by: Bullshott on 08 December 2013, 05:17:18 PM
With a game scheduled for just after Christmas, I've finally had the impetus to finish my schoolboy cadets. Some of you may have seen these under a different guise on the VSF board as a company for IHMN but they were originally purchased for VBCW, so it's nice to complete them as originally intended. Seen here as the Marlborough College Cadet Force, fighting for the Anglican League.

Vehicles soon to follow, after which there will be some militia, to go with the finished leaders:

Doug

There will be at least 8 similarly sized forces in the game (which will based on the Swindon area). Forces will mainly be local militias of various political shades, plus an independent force of local gangsters/brigands out to line their pockets in the ensuing chaos.

Woodnine Design, available from Gripping Beast:

They also do some jolly nice gents and poachers that are perfect for rural militias.

Good stuff Dave. I go with the concept that you get as much use out of your figures as possible so commend the IHMN/VBCW crossover! How are those wolfies coming on?

By the way, the rev's jacket is brilliant!

How are those wolfies coming on?

Wolves are completed. I just need to paint the human part of the company, who are number three priority on the painting list; after the vehicles for these boys (required for a game over the Christmas break) and some hunter types in tweed (also usable for bothe IHMN and VBCW).

Those trucks are fantastic, particularly the improvised armored one.

It's not improvised armour. It's a Lancia armoured trick, as used by the British army in the Irish troubles of the 1920s. I figure this obsolete vehicle had been loaned by the Army to the cadet force for use in exercises prior to the civil war starting. The cadets repainted and armed it when they declared for the Anglican League.

That is all well and good, Dave, and I heartily approve.

However, we need to get to the nitty-gritty of just where one can acquire one of these little armoured babies for oneself, dont we?

I've just finished ten 'men in tweed', who will be used as a generic 'country folk' section that could be aligned to AL or Royalists, as the need dictates. I really enjoyed painting these, most of which are from Woodbine.

Great colours on the tweediness. There again, as you are a man in possession of some fine tweed waistcoats yourself, I would expect no less  ;)

Post by: Bullshott on 14 January 2016, 12:11:59 AM
It's been a couple of years since I last worked on any VBCW, but my painting mojo has returned.

Watch this space for:

The Dorset Clubmen (my existing Men in Tweed plus some additions)

Artillery support (or at leas the nearest they could make) for the Schoolboys

Wimborne Militia (local defence volunteers)

... and lots more beside :)

Title: Re: Bullshott's VBCW - NEW PHOTOS - Dorset Clubmen
Post by: Bullshott on 20 February 2016, 07:00:20 PM
As promised, here are the first finished figures from my return to VBCW.

Firstly, some armed country folk (please excuse the poor quality picture, but the light was terrible):

Although these could be used for any faction with a change of command figures, thet will initially be used for the Dorset Clubmen - the aggressively neutral populace of the Dorset villages and country towns. Concept based on the clubmen of the English Civil War - they will defend their livestock, fuel and vehicles from any faction seeking to take them.

Command group with runner:

Close-up of the flag, depicting the Cerne Abbas giant:

The complete group:

More of these soonish, but first I am working on some opposition for them.

Wimborne Militia are coming along. They will include my schoolboys, the cricket team and rifle armed townsmen. A change of flag and playing mix and match with these clubmen will allow them to represent most towns in Dorset. However, first I need to paint my Bournemouth fascists.

I was born in Bournemouth (of course, Bournemouth was in Hampshire when I was born), so I'm very much looking forward to seeing your Bournemouth fascists. It's great to see all these local names in your forces. My great-grandfather helped build Throop Mill and lived in Holdenhurst Village. Maybe some socialist forces from Throop and Holdenhurst villages to oppose the bully-boy fascists from the big town? Great work.

Woodbine WW1 Turks - both figures come with the catapult and only need head changes (heads also Woodbine WW1) plus greenstuff shirt collars and ties.

Figures are head-changed Footsore to give them the berets worn by the BF. Dog is from Westwind.

The image on the flag is the founder of the BF, Rotha Lintorn-Orman, who died in 1935.

I wonder if there is room for squads of foreign volunteers in these games, there would have to have been vested interests from across the waters AKA the Condor Legion and International Brigades of the SCW? This could add more colour, equipment and uniform variations, I am sure this must have been raised before...

The platoon so far:

To complete the platoon I need a 3rd section (on my painting table), some transport (first vehicles also on my painting table), a couple of figures to complete the command group and some support weapons.

I finally finished the last of the command an support elements for my Fascisti, just in time for the force's first game.

First, a Boyes anti-tank rifle team. THe team is convereted from Perrt plastic 8th Army figures, with the addition of Empress SCW heads.

I've finally finished the 3rd section of my British Fascisti platoon:

The complete platoon:

Now to crack on with some Anglican League to oppose this unit.

Nice work, Dave.
I have been looking forward to seeing your take on these gals.
Good to see them in yet another different set of colours to those that I have already spotted.

That is a pretty damn imposing platoon your Fascisti make now.

Thanks. I have a couple more support elements plus a 4th (youth) section to add at some point but, with their mortar and tankettes, this this force is good enough to fight as it stands.

I'm currently having fun painting up an AL command group as the start of a new platoon to fight these :)

Thanks for all the positive comments on my fascists. With this force just about complete, it's about time they had some appropriate opposition. So here are some command figures to start my Anglican League force:

It's been a while since I've posted anything VBCW on this forum, so here are some Anglican League units I finished recently for a game:

Company of St Osmund Command Group:

The Company of St Osmund is a flying column operating out of Salisbury (St Osmund founded Salisbury cathederal). Front row left to right:  runner,  commanding officer (the Archdeacon of Salisbury, no less), spotter team (boy scouts), Rear row left to right:  medic, standard bearer with the company colour, sergeant.

Assault Section:

Support Weapon - Rocket Launcher:

Salisbury's lack of sufficient support weapons to arm the flying column has been rectified by the boffins of the nearby Land Weapons Research Establishment (LWRE) at Winterborne Down. In this case, a prototype rocket launcher has been substituted for a mortar. Much to everyone's surprise, the first use in anger of this weapon proved to be surprisingly accurate, raining devastating fire down on the heads of dug-in Fascists during the battle of the Cokers near Yeovil.

Very nice indeed.  Who makes the support weapon or is it scratch built?

Thanks for the comments. Other than a couple more vehicles, I'm happy with my Anglicans for the time being. My next force will be some Royalists, in the shape of an English Array platoon.

It certainly wasn't for the BUF troops on the receiving end in its first outing  :D

Great additions Bullshot.

Love the rocket team, who needs a cheap, light & easy to use mortar when you can have an erratic, highly dangerous (to both sides) rocket contraption hahaha 😊 good stuff!
