Konichiwa!
For the upcoming Tacitca in Hamburg (http://www.hamburger-tactica.de/ (http://www.hamburger-tactica.de/)) I'm planning to present some Sengoku-Period-Stuff.
More precisely: a rumble inside a monastery, even more precisely: in a Zen Garden. It's not much time till then, so time is right to post some previews here (and keep myself on the track of workflow).
The scenario will be played with SAGA and some homebrewn Battleboards.
First some of the miniatures that will be used:

Samurai Commmander

Ashigaru with Yari

Ashigaru Archers

Ashigaru with Teppos (hunting ducks)
Monks of course (need to paint a lot of them still)
And here some WIP on the terrain:

Home to see some of you in Hamburg for some Zen-Meditation ;)
-
Wow, great stuff, love it :-*
Will be there in february, love to see them in flesh ;)
See you
-
Beautiful - will follow with interest.
-
Stunning work :-* and looking forward to seeing it develop :)
-
A really nicely painted set of miniatures, and that scenery is fantastic.
-
Very good work :-*
-
Amazing stuff!! :o
-Todd
-
Cool.. what did you make the roofs from? And love the big tree, any wip shots??
-
Great work! By the way, can you share the Battleboards?
-
Really nice! I also would like to see close up photos of the tree. The tori is damn fine too.

-
Thanx very much folks!
Here is how I made the tree:
the original piece is aquarium-decoration:
I put off all that plastic crap:
then I added new branches taken from the GW-plastic tree sets with some green stuff. The blossoms are from "miniNatur" (http://www.mininatur.de/).
The ready repainted result:
@rokurota: Yes, I can share the boards as soon as they are ready. I will do them in two languages and maybe in a shorter version for presentation purpose, too.
@marcusluis: The buildings are from: http://www.plastcraftgames.com/en/ so the roofs are included, but you need to cut rows in it to have the look like single roof tiles. I also needed to scratched all the grain in the wooden pieces... all of these come as flat pvc-parts.
@Comsquare: see you there :)
-
Here are some WIP-shots from the Pagado. This will be a central thing on the final table:
finally built ready... now back to painting...
-
Fantastic start with great figures and terrain. Would love to see your home grown SAGA battleboards. Who makes the pagoda?
-
These look great mate. Cant wait to see it all together completed.
-

-
Great stuff - nice pics!

This looks fantastic! I'm already signing in for the first (and second) game at the Tactica. Very best regards, Tobi
-

Here are some shots from the last Testgames on a Con two weeks ago:

And here is some Samurai-Style Gaming-Material:
Measuring sticks in M, S and VS, "Blood and Blossoms" - Fatigue Markers and a singing bowl. ;)
I finished the first three Battelboards for download here:
http://www.kurpfalz-feldherren.de/fotogalerie/samurai-ninja (http://www.kurpfalz-feldherren.de/fotogalerie/samurai-ninja)
...but haven't translated them yet (they are in german). Will share english versions of them very soon.
-
I like a lot the gaming material, and thanks in advance for the english battleboard. :)
-
Lovely work you've got there.
Both conversion work and paint jobs are absolutely inspiring!
Thanks for sharing.
Looking forward to have a peek at those battle boards as well.
-
@Battleboards: well... painting miniatures and building terrain keeps we really damn buisy these days... (besides work, family and all that stuff) only three weeks to go now... why does it allways need to be that tight... well, I guess my own fault then... but I'll keep you up to date here.
At least most of the miniatures are finished now. Here are some finished monks, the third party that will be fighting inside the zen-garden:
I hope you like it :)
-
Great work with these monks! I like a lot the Buddha statue, I have a statue very seen, you can see here; http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=59780.0
-
These are fantastic, almost tempting me to paint some Samurai.
-
Thanx! :)
And here finally, the last few monks to have a 4 Point-Saga Sohei-group ready for battle:
Warlord:
Warlord (view for backstabbing Ninjas):
-
What is the last model?
-
These Sohei are terrific!
-
Fabulous, although I don't understand why it's been moved out of the medieval section. :)
-
@carlos13th: the Warlord ist from Legend of the five Rings / Clanwar. They are now sold by Valiant Enterprises: https://www.veltd.net/zencart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=36 (https://www.veltd.net/zencart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=36)
@janner: I asked to move it, 'cause I've seen that all Samurai-Stuff seems to be posted here, so it made sense somehow... maybe...
-
Well some of the figures appear to have muskets, so... ::) ;)
Truthfully, samurai-era Japan is one of those genres that doesn't fit neatly in any of the current LAF 'historical' categories - given that the samurai era stretched for over a thousand years right through to the latter C19th. So samurai genre threads could be Medieval, could be Renaissance/Swashbuckling (Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts), could even be Age of Big Battalions - chronologically speaking.
But as GevatterTod says, most Samurai threads seem to end up clustered in Other Adventures, so it seems reasonably at home here :)
Fabulous-looking figures and terrain, by the way :)

If we apply to same logic to a western noble warrior genre (such as chivalry) might we not encounter a similar problem ;)
Anyway, I'm enjoying following this one and can find it as easily here :)

@Janner: Will you be at Tactica in Hamburg? Should not be that far from you. You're invited for a Game.

Yes, I'm coming down with the boys from Tinsoldaten and will take you up on your kind offer :)
-
@Janner: Looking forward to it! Very nice!
Here's the current state of the gaming table... almost there... almost:

Nearly there :D
-
Lovely! :o 8) :-* What's the white patches all about? Is that just areas that have still to be done!
-
Great table!
-
That's the business! :o
-
That is utterly brilliant.
-
Thanx a lot! :) :)
What's the white patches all about? Is that just areas that have still to be done!
No, these area will be made like this: (http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00798/kyoto_798861c.jpg)
Zen-Garden... but I need to get better sand here. There will be a small area with real, unglued sand in the right bottom corner, so players can make their own patterns here ;)
-
That gaming board is just fantastic. ;D ;D I love what you have done with the cliffs and the stream. It ties in all the buildings and sets the scene wonderfully. IMHO the only missing thing is cherry blossoms :'(. My favourite Japanese tree.
-
Thank you, Hu Rhu! :)
IMHO the only missing thing is cherry blossoms Cry. My favourite Japanese tree.
Actually, I've bought 20 of them about two weeks ago... But I doubt, that they will arrive before the next weekend :(
We'll see. But at least I have some other white blossom trees down by the main stairs, as you will notice.
-
That board is amazing. One of the best I've ever seen for any genre.
-
Some last pictures, before we go to Hamburg tomorrow:

See you at Tactica!

-
Serene. Or is that the calm before the storm? Beautiful.
-
The fish are a cracking touch! :o are they proper models buried under water effect or are they just painting onto the board?
-
Yep, see you at setting up time ;)
-
Sensationell !
Bis morgen.
-
Great! :)
-
Hope to get a game tomorrow, Driscoles was nicely busy all through today :)

Nice to see that a lot of people's Tactica 2014 pics were of your table, looked great.
-
I could't stop adding Troops to my Samurai-Warbands even when Tactica was over... so I finished some more Models to split my existing Samurai-Troops into two Clans: Takeda and Hojo. This week I managed to finished enough Hojo-Troops to have them at 4 Points for Saga:
The whole Hojo-Gang:
1x4 Samurai with Katana, 1x4 Samurai with Yari, 8 Yari-Ashigaru, 12 Teppo-Ashigaru and Warlord.
Thanx for watching! :)
-

That has just made my day.
The painting, the background, terrain and bases. Simply zen.
-
Very nice. I especially like the basing on the cavalry - looks excellent.
-
This is all very excellent stuff, thank you for posting
-
Glorious!! Just glorious!! Oh my god, I love that table, and your warbands look magnificent. I just got my samurai itch right back, but now I'm starting to think I made the wrong choice giving my Date troops snowy bases. Yours are so beautiful with the rocks, grass and flowers...
