Title: (KICKSTARTER) Counterblast by Airlock Games
Post by: tnjrp on 17 February 2014, 07:03:44 AM
Trying to stay within the rules, here's a new thread* for Airlock Games' Counterblast KickStarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/airlockgames/counterblast-adventure-battle-game

Looks to be going down well but not at a record breaking pace as of yet.

As was to be expected, nothing much by the way of minis I'd care to get into as p&p for just one or two minis is so high -- and I really wouldn't want more than a couple form the ones shown so far. Oddly, it looks as if you'd be required to pay a postage fee for PDF downloads as well if you're not USAnian but that's prolly not the case IRL.

I like many of the miniatures but the postage is a killer and I don't like buying sets for a game I won't play. I'll be waiting for the produced miniatures to appear in their shop and then I'll pick the ones I must have since they're generally $10 each.

I backed their last one and would like to support this effort, but I don't do pdf rulebooks in general.  I like an actual book in my hand.

Some cool looking mini's and lord knows I'd like to do this period someday but (hands shaking) I'm desperately trying to reduce my venues for gaming and the lead pile!

I backed their last one and would like to support this effort, but I don't do pdf rulebooks in general.  I like an actual book in my hand.

I like the PDF rule book method, you just hit print, double sided, and "waa laa" you have an actual rule book in your hands. If you cant "print" yourself you take the PDF file down to the local print shop and have it done, bound the way YOU like it, perhaps a bit more costly but you save shipping. The finial price would depend on the original cost of the PDF rules. It also allows the writer to update and correct future "printings" easily and distribute them to folks who have already paid. Now that being said I wonder how the publishers will fair given the habit of some gamers to print 6 copies of a set and give them away..... I would think they are counting on the mini's to make the money. their are a lot of "older" rule set now available this way.

Yep, I was going to jump on this one myself but will give it a miss now. I detest PDF rule books, I'm still oldskool. I appreciate it's easy enough to get them printed but it's an unnecessary hassle & often works out to be quite costly  :?  Hopefully there will be a proper printed version produced at a later date.

Don't get me wrong I too like the "proper" rules printed nicely, BUT many great "little" rules efforts would not get done given the budget restraints on smaller printing efforts. Not to mention the fact that then when they print it and given limited sales have to charge appropriately someone always complains "what that much $$ for a 30 page set of rules!" PDF if just another way to go that works in many instances. too each their own.... lol

I had my super system 3 rules printed up for about 15 bucks at a print place. Not sure where you guys are going to get stuff printed, but 10 to 15 on average to get my pdf rules printed.

I look at most PDF rules are 10 to 25 bucks to buy, plus the 15 to have printed.. I am looking at 40 bucks to have a PDF rule book printed. Plus if I lose it, or damage it I can get a back up on the cheap... I already own the PDF :)

Kickstarter for rules is problematic for me, I have no idea about there quality, or if I would ever use them.  Now the miniatures in general I can go for, but I a little disappointed in the one eyed dwarf, Illyrain, that reaper his in stock, there are five of those little buggers not to mention stretch goals.  Well that more personal preference, and nothing says "deal" to me.

I did not know that, so I hunted for them and then, I have to have an account with the to get them.   Since I have been getting all types of stuff since the Target data theft, I'm hesitant to establish anything right now, so my hard luck, I guess.  Personally, I like to see companies up front saying they would sell my info in any way....

Well, I thought what the hell and signed up for an account, and the Free Preview rules are not available ..

I used to print relevant bitz of rules myself but in this modern newfangled age of tablet computers I'm thinking of the trees. Also, you don't get a proper search function on printed matter and they don't update even as often as PDFs.

I like the miniatures, especially these:-

but, personally, I'd have no use for the rules.

Nice changes!  One question:  Some of the early bird pledges are the same as the standard pledge of the same named level.  For instance; Mission Tech is $60 for a faction set and printed rulebook (whether earlybird or not).  Am I missing something?

Correct, unlike a lot of Kickstarters which have cheaper early bird pledges this one has different delivery dates - August for early bird pledges and October for the others - it's a way of managing the production.

We have retooled the stretch goals, offered the book up front, and unlocked all of the included minis in the Faction Core Sets. PLUS we are adding cool FREEBIES to just about every other stretch goal making the pledge levels a better and better deal as it goes along.

We are about this close --->] [<--- to making clear plastic bubble helmets available not just for our figures, but for most other figures too.

Brett and I are working on a totally new gameplay demo that details the turn sequence and gameplay mechanics that will be posted shortly.

Stay tuned!

I increased my pledge from one faction to two factions with the new KS. I'm getting more mini's, I'm getting a printed rule book, I'm getting free mini's that I like as Stretch Goals and there are Add-On figures that will come available that are really cool.

Also I know the Counterblast figures are top notch as I've already been buying the ones available at the Online Store. And with this KS, you'll get your product on time as promised and the quality will be top notch.

The Creeping Creatures set and the Edolfeini each slot seamlessly into my Alien Flora & Fauna (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=59656.msg712919#msg712919) and Tentacle Brain (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=58214.0) projects respectively.  Many of those other models are appealing too.

I know that you cant please everybody, but I am one of the minority that only really wants the book in digital format.  The additional cost in the pledges added by the book is putting me off (my budget is tight) pledging.

Still, its a tempting Kickstarter, with lots of cool models (those orangey "Creeping Creatures" are particularly brilliant and that "Hunter Pair" stretch goal set looks potentially very cool, as does the scuttler) so I hope that it does well.

I'm backing this, and I'm also pleased that they are now offering the option of UK/EU customers having their stuff shipped from West Wind.
At least it'll avoid the nightmare of arbitrary UK VAT + "handling charges" :)

I really like the Edofleini faction, which are really cool pulp aliens, although I'll probably be using them for VSF.
And, this Kickstarter is heading into it's last few days, if you were waiting to see how it turned out...

It's odd tho how they (as in US companies doing KS) always come up with this solution only at the very last moment :?

Doesn't look like the retro-skycycle will get funded at this rate.  :-[
Looks like I'll be bashing a smaller scale P-40 Warhawk model.

I'm glad I supported this KS though.  Their last one produced some truly wonderful models and delivered on time.

I'm in for minis and a HB book.

The West Wind deal is very tricky and not for everyone. We explored a lot of options before we launched the project and this arrangement seemed the best solution for both of us. It just took a bit for us to put it together. Going forward they will be handling the entire Bombshell Miniatures line which we think will be a big benefit to our customer base.

Even if some of the items are not unlocked during the project, they are already slated for our release schedule and will be available later after the project fulfillment is complete. We have a pretty good track record of other projects that have been delivered in a timely way.

Thanks everyone for your interest in the game! It's very cool to get input from you all.

Good news that West Wind will be handling the Bombshell Miniatures line in the future,  :)
I've found them to be a great company to deal with, and they certainly did a great job with their own Kickstarter project (Empire of the Dead).
The West Wind supply option (on the Airlock Games Counterblast Kickstarter) seems to be the best option for me (I'm in the UK)

Anyway, looking forward to some really cool figures,  :)

This is going to sound really mean but it doesn't seem to me that you get enough 'freebies' via the stretch goals. I've only been looking at Kickstarter stuff fairly recently but it seems to me half the fun is that you go in for a base set at a certain price and then because enough other people also do that everyone gets some freebies as a reward.

I REALLY like some of the models but what I potentially get for free isn't very exciting particularly if I am buying a faction that features a very similar model. Yes I accept a prototype will be different from a finished version but it's still basically the same figure.

I might back it for a couple of the figures that I really like e.g. Wanda, but the overal package isn't appealing.

But hey maybe I'm just a bit tight with my money?!
Title: Re: (KICKSTARTER) Counterblast by Airlock Games
Post by: Elprez on 21 March 2014, 01:38:53 PM
@ Archie - doesn't sound mean at all. We all like free stuff, and who wouldn't want more?

But, personally, I'd still rather companies run their Kickstarters with realistic rewards and timeframes for supply.
I've seen Kickstarters where the companies promise loads of extras, and obviously haven't done their planning correctly, can't afford to supply what they've promised (while still making a profit) and run into problems meeting their promises on time, if at all.

Then there are companies that plan correctly (including the rewards and costing) and supply in a timely fashion.
I'd cite West Wind's Empire of the Dead as one of those successful well-planned and run Kickstarters, which is why I'm happy that they'll be involved with this one for UK backers,  :)

In this case, I'm happy that the models featured will get made sooner with Kickstarter backing than they otherwise would, and I'll get a couple of free miniatures. I think that Airlock Games have been sensible and realistic in their promises, and I hope that they'll also profit from this Kickstarter, and be able to continue to expand the Counterblast game.

Would I have liked more free stuff though? Of course, every time,  lol.

But I do still realise that these companies have to make a profit to make it worthwhile for them to produce the lines they make.
