so, no dragons then...
but I wonder how much sex and violence the BBC will deem acceptable?
Are we talking after the water-shed or family viewing? lol
-
I hope to god and Odin that this wll be done well :D
-
Looking forward to this.

Me too, great action and with a northumbrian hero to boot ;D ;D
-
Sounds a lot like the Beeb is jumping onto the 'Vikings' band wagon...
Or dragon ship.
-
I would imagine that Sean Bean is getting a bit long in the tooth now ;D
cheers

Maybe YOU should audition.
You already speak the lingo.
:D

Oh hell. I wish HBO had picked this up instead of the BBC.
I really don't see the 'Game of Thrones' connection at all, nor why any journalist would associate the two.
I'm a fan of the books (and the missus will be chuffed since she is too) but I just don't trust the BBC not to ruin it, like they have with a lot of other 'family viewing' nonsenses. The best thing they made in years was 'Ripper Street' and they cancelled it!

It will probably be a dark ages version of the Musketeers >:D

Please....No!

Books are great, I really hope they don't waste this.
-
I do not trust the BBC with this project. Or any station. No one will do it right.
Hopefully I will be proven wrong.
-
Really, really , really hope they do this well.
And then afterwards do the Warlord Chronicles as well.
-
Hopefully no more Renaissance Faire type costuming. The BBC used to be known for accurate costume dramas (e.g. I Claudius; Elizabeth R; the original Henry VIIIth series). Now even Starz seems able to put on a more accurate rendition (contrast The White Queen with the Musketeers - and what were those stupid leather sleeves the musketeers were all wearing !?!?!?! Why did none of them have proper King's Musketeers tabards??).

What?! you mean people didn't jst wear leather versions of contemporary fashion like Renaissance grungers?! lol
have never read the books, but i do love saxon era stories.the problem is that the bbc could make a great gritty series that lives up to history, but if it does anything to "adult" at any time before 1 in the morning the daily mail will kick up a fuss and talk about how 99999999999 billion people were offended to death.
-
I love the series! I Just hope it isn't shit. lol
I would also love to see the warlord series to.

Best thing Cornwell's done tho' the latter books aren't quite as strong.
Don't cock it up Auntie. Stick to the story, stick to the period, stick to the costume! >:(

I remember some years ago the television was dominated bye crime-stuff and drama-stuff like "dynasty", no history-stuff.
With the "tudors" and "rome" historic stuff became more popular. I think it is good. Sometimes to hollywood, but the history was sometimes like a action movie. So, I look forward to it and I think it will be great.
-
Very excited to see it made, less excited it's BBC 2. Hoping it will be in the same vain as Rome and not the dross they seem to produce these days.
This is my favourite series of books so they really have a lot to live up to.
All we have to think of is a character who dies then Sean Bean is all set... I can think of at least one who would be a good fit.
-
As long as they don't go for the Saturday tea time slot vibe with comedic fights etc etc
That Robin hood they did was utter bollox!

any Robin Hood thing the BBC has touched has been utter crap >:(.
Let's see how things pan out, maybe until we see a trailer or two?
Darrell.

I've got to admit that I agree, HBO would have made a better job of it IMHO- on the other hand, unlikely as it is, the BBC may surprise us :).

We live in hope over expectation.

Loved Ripper Street. Didn't like some things about The Musketeers, but grew quite fond of it in the end. Hated The White Queen with every fibre of my being.
Let's hope this one is more towards the former and not the latter :)
-
Should have done the Warlord Chronicles first...
-
Hasn´t the BBC co-operated with HBO on a couple of things already?
Maybe they could on this one.
-
The White Queen was a disaster IMHO.
Haven't seen Ripper Street yet, but keep hearing good things about it.

In the excellent 2005-2007 series Rome, for one.
