BBC to film Last Kingdom

Hopefully no more Renaissance Faire type costuming.  The BBC used to be known for accurate costume dramas (e.g. I Claudius; Elizabeth R; the original Henry VIIIth series).  Now even Starz seems able to put on a more accurate rendition (contrast The White Queen with the Musketeers - and what were those stupid leather sleeves the musketeers were all wearing !?!?!?!  Why did none of them have proper King's Musketeers tabards??).

What?! you mean people didn't jst wear leather versions of contemporary fashion like Renaissance grungers?! 


have never read the books, but i do love saxon era stories.the problem is that the bbc could make a great gritty series that lives up to history, but if it does anything to "adult" at any time before 1 in the morning the daily mail will kick up a fuss and talk about how 99999999999 billion people were offended to death.

Best thing Cornwell's done tho' the latter books aren't quite as strong.

I remember some years ago the television was dominated bye crime-stuff and drama-stuff like "dynasty", no history-stuff.
With the "tudors" and "rome" historic stuff became more popular. I think it is good. Sometimes to hollywood, but the history was sometimes like a action movie. So, I look forward to it and I think it will be great.

Very excited to see it made, less excited it's BBC 2. Hoping it will be in the same vain as Rome and not the dross they seem to produce these days.

This is my favourite series of books so they really have a lot to live up to.

All we have to think of is a character who dies then Sean Bean is all set... I can think of at least one who would be a good fit.

I've got to admit that I agree, HBO would have made a better job of it IMHO- on the other hand, unlikely as it is, the BBC may surprise us  .

Loved Ripper Street. Didn't like some things about The Musketeers, but grew quite fond of it in the end. Hated The White Queen with every fibre of my being.
Let's hope this one is more towards the former and not the latter

The White Queen was a disaster IMHO.
Haven't seen Ripper Street yet, but keep hearing good things about it.
