£10 for one mini? It's a piss take >:( >:( >:(.
Darrell.
-
That's a lot of money. I can think of another company that does that sort of thing. Hmmm...
No thanks.

Precisely! >:( >:( >:(
Bad karma!
Darrell.
-
Well, this isn't one of their regular stock items unlike other said company but a special edition figure...plus the base is unique so some extra work went into making this figure unlike a standard figure. I wanted one....
-
Hey, if it works for you, don't let me harsh your buzz. It's just expensive - in my opinion ;)

No harm my friend! :) We all have our breaking point of what we call expensive or what we are willing to consider what is worth the price or not....
-

I wanted to buy it. But when I see this price? Hell no.
-
It's a nice figure actually; it lacks the weird pantomime muppet face of a lot of Warlord's WW2 figures. However, £10 is a tad much for my taste as well.
-
£10 is step bit as a die hard band of brothers fan I just couldnt resist and bought 2 ;D one for the field the other for display (more money then sense)
-
Sorry, too expensive. If this is successful, I fear it will drive up prices generally.

I don't think so, this is limited, Warlord has to stay in the ball park of other companies otherwise they will put themselves out of a job....Stallard is a pretty savvy guy and won't let the company fall to crap, that is why he left GW as he didn't agree with how they was doing things.
-

Although I have already said it is expensive, I also don't think this is true. A one-off, over priced model won't drive the prices up. Warlord, like them or not, have always had pretty good prices on their non-special models. :D
-
I must admit fully:
Yes, it is horrendously overpriced :o
Yes, it is gimmicky salesmanship :-[
Yes, he is a fantastic sculpt :-*
And yes, for some reason I was compelled to purchase it! lol
Please don't berate me too much, I promise I am not one to make such purchases ever before, or will likely ever again! :'(

lol
No berating! Hey, if you want it, then enjoy it. It's a nice sculpt. :D
-
I got one as well but was making a larger order so it got me into the free shipping range.

Sure, but once they understand that their 'market' will accept a certain price, more things like this will come. It's sort of how it usually works..... :)

Might they not learn from other, similar models, that are now imploding somewhat spectacularly?
I don't see it. Unlike GW, who were the biggest player, Warlord are a pretty small fish. There are real competitive pressures for them - there are other historical players, and others can emerge of the market warms up. More players, pricing pressures tend to keep the kind of rampant price increases that GW used away. GW is it's own market, and ignores any potential competitor.
Even FOW which is a massive 15mm stays competitive, and has responded favourably to the innovation that's Plastic Soldier Company.
So, yes, I get what your saying, and no, I still disagree :D
-
Well, since no one I know can see the future, we shall see :D
In any event, I'm certainly not spending 20 bucks on a mini.... Or even 15. But that's the great thing about the market. You spend your money, I spend mine. You think one way about a company, I may think another. You do you, I do me :D
-
lol yeah, there is no way that mini is worth the money to me either!
-
I just BA myself, seems interesting. I thought it may give my Chain of Command another game to use them with.
-
honestly.... Its an ordinary rank and file figure glued on a Hundemarke ( dog tag )
Even for half the price its not a super duper miniature.
A small diorama for a tenner would be much better. A soldier at a house corner or a paratrooper packing his chute or cleaning his rifle or helping a comrade or two sharing a smoke and and and... But a plain Dick Winters is a bit boring....
Cheers

As others have rightly said, priced way out of bounds for me...but if you are stupid and want to waste your money, by all means go ahead...but not for me.
As for Warlord's marketing...remember, this is the same firm that brought you the ad campaign that the Waffen SS were really nice guys just terribly misunderstood...okay... ???
-
if you are stupid
is a bit rough, but... ???
I just don't see the harm in a purchaser spending extra money on a figure that:
1. Was sculpted to recognize a much revered veteran who was not a general officer, etc (interesting concept).
2. Will most certainly not be as common on a game table as the grains of sand on a beach (uniqueness).
3. And as far as collecting goes, is no different of a concept than the overwhelming number of painters/gamers who have spent massive amounts of money on massive lead mountains, that will never be completed, much less even started. (armies which often get sold for a fraction of the initial purchasing prices and a loss greater than $16 USD).
In the end, it's all just disposable income and a hobby.

Spot on k225. No need for name calling!!!
-
$16 USD!! You lucky dogs!
I spent about $550 USD to get mine plus gave up 3 vacation days.Thats about what it cost for my week at Historicon
Seriously. It was the free figure you got for going to Hcon.So they gave about 2000 away.,Had a guy sculpt it,made a mould, cast them up,brought them across the pond and GAVE them away.HMGS then let them sell em for a couple weeks before destroying the mould.
If they want to make a little up by offering it to guys who didn't go(which I think is pretty cool) so what?
I'm not a Warlord fan at all (quit buying from them when they added VAT to US orders) but .....

How do you suppose they cover their "free" shipping? ;) Free, isn't. I too thought that was a big hidden price increase - and, conveniently haven't ordered from them since, either. Blitzkrieg Miniatures, Perry, Wargames Foundry all saw business from me after that. Not a penny to Warlord.
-
Order myself two of them . One for gaming and one for display.
-
Just out of interest do they show VAT on the invoice for foreign orders or do they just lump it into the total price?
-
Hmmm... At Historicon this past weekend we each got one as part of our (weekend?) registration.
Getting out of the 28mm WW2 scale, so these are going to sit on shelf until I do my next sale in the Bazaar...
I imagine there are others in the same boat, so would not be surprised to see these showing up for much less than retail on the second hand market.
-
While I don't like Warlord minis, I understand the idea...but if the money isn't going to charity or something it's a bit of a "meh" approach.
-

Nail.... hit..... on.... head!!!
Does not exactly give me a great buzz to think that the memory of Dick winters has come down to the sale of an overly expensive toy soldier.
His memory (as with all those who fought in WWII- and yes I do own WWII mini's!) deserves better- and so do we.
Darrell.

As I said, I have no idea what the man looked like, so one mini is as good as another... IMHO
-
That's a nice model, I can't get to Historicon and frankly, I might well be willing to part with a tenner to get something I really want, next time I'm buying some Bolt Action models.
-

Pics of him here http://www.majordickwinters.com (http://www.majordickwinters.com)
-
But, in any case, it looks like a mini of Damian Lewis in the role of Dick Winters in Band of Brothers - permanently pursed lips and all.
-
Oh booger, I just realised it's not available any more. Oh well, a tenner saved I guess.
-

Quite, but after HBO turned his character into an icon (with his express permission whilst making the programme) it just seems trite to produce a completely expensive model of the actor and not the real Winters.
I don't know, maybe I'm being a bit picky, after all I wouldn't baulk at buying the Empress Mini's Bromhead and Chard though it would be the historical versions that got the lick of paint and made it onto the wargames table......
..... perhaps i'm just having a bad day lol lol
Darrell.
-
Too much money for a really simple figure.
-
They're up on ebay now for 50 bucks.... see, this is why I HATE 'collectable' stuff.

Would be anyway, if it was funny- some folks greed! >:( >:( >:(

-
The question is are they actually selling?
-
Highly doubt they sell any.May be one to some ultra BA fanboi lol
Sitting here looking at mine( had to dig it out of a box of unsold flea market stuff) its quite a ordinary sculpt(much like the rest of the BA US airborne figs).
If they do sell its hardly Warlords fault. As I said before they made it as a gift for HMGS to give away. There was probably a big boo hoo from the other BA players around the world so they offered it on the website for a while. To keep the figure "special" they couldn't really sell it for peanuts could they? Then some douche(or entrepeneur) decides to try and get all he can from it on Ebay.So what?
Pete
-
It's now sold out, as is the PC Dogberry miniature.
-
Ko J
I was talking about the $50 USD ones on Ebay.

You know, it's a nice model, but ... hey, I guess if someone has the cash, why not eh? Not for me lol
