I got one as well but was making a larger order so it got me into the free shipping range.
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Although I have already said it is expensive, I also don't think this is true. A one-off, over priced model won't drive the prices up. Warlord, like them or not, have always had pretty good prices on their non-special models.  :D

Sure, but once they understand that their 'market' will accept a certain price, more things like this will come.  It's sort of how it usually works..... :)

Might they not learn from other, similar models, that are now imploding somewhat spectacularly?

I don't see it. Unlike GW, who were the biggest player, Warlord are a pretty small fish. There are real competitive pressures for them - there are other historical players, and others can emerge of the market warms up. More players, pricing pressures tend to keep the kind of rampant price increases that GW used away. GW is it's own market, and ignores any potential competitor.

Even FOW which is a massive 15mm stays competitive, and has responded favourably to the innovation that's Plastic Soldier Company.

So, yes, I get what your saying, and no, I still disagree  :D

Well, since no one I know can see the future, we shall see :D

In any event, I'm certainly not spending 20 bucks on a mini.... Or even 15.  But that's the great thing about the market. You spend your money, I spend mine.  You think one way about a company, I may think another.  You do you, I do me :D

honestly.... Its an ordinary rank and file figure glued on a Hundemarke ( dog tag )
Even for half the price its not a super duper miniature.
A small diorama for a tenner would be much better. A soldier at a house corner  or a paratrooper packing his chute or cleaning his rifle or helping a comrade or two sharing a smoke and and and... But a plain Dick Winters is a bit boring....

As others have rightly said, priced way out of bounds for me...but if you are stupid and want to waste your money, by all means go ahead...but not for me.

As for Warlord's marketing...remember, this is the same firm that brought you the ad campaign that the Waffen SS were really nice guys just terribly misunderstood...okay... ???

if you are stupid
is a bit rough, but...  ???

I just don't see the harm in a purchaser spending extra money on a figure that:
1. Was sculpted to recognize a much revered veteran who was not a general officer, etc (interesting concept).
2. Will most certainly not be as common on a game table as the grains of sand on a beach (uniqueness).
3. And as far as collecting goes, is no different of a concept than the overwhelming number of painters/gamers who have spent massive amounts of money on massive lead mountains, that will never be completed, much less even started. (armies which often get sold for a fraction of the initial purchasing prices and a loss greater than $16 USD).

In the end, it's all just disposable income and a hobby.

$16 USD!! You lucky dogs!
I spent about $550 USD to get mine plus gave up 3 vacation days.Thats about what it cost for my week at Historicon

Seriously. It was the free figure you got for going to Hcon.So they gave about 2000 away.,Had a guy sculpt it,made a mould, cast them up,brought them across the pond and GAVE them away.HMGS then let them sell em for a couple weeks before destroying the mould.
If they want to make a little up by offering it to guys who didn't go(which I think is pretty cool) so what?
I'm not a Warlord fan at all (quit buying from them when they added VAT to US orders) but .....

How do you suppose they cover their "free" shipping?  ;)  Free, isn't. I too thought that was a big hidden price increase - and, conveniently haven't ordered from them since, either. Blitzkrieg Miniatures, Perry, Wargames Foundry all saw business from me after that. Not a penny to Warlord.

Just out of interest do they show VAT on the invoice for foreign orders or do they just lump it into the total price?

Hmmm... At Historicon this past weekend we each got one as part of  our (weekend?) registration.

Getting out of the 28mm WW2 scale, so these are going to sit on shelf until I do my next sale in the Bazaar...

I imagine there are others in the same boat, so would not be surprised to see these showing up for much less than retail on the second hand market.
