Just some photos of the Gypsy Vardo that I am currently working on. More photos on my blog. Built of card stock, coffee stirrers and some green stuff details. I still have to work on the interior and the actual wagon parts. Hope you like.

Nice start!
I've always fancied building a scale one too, but never could find an excuse to actually start one... couldn't shoehorn it into any of my projects. :'(
I'll be following this one vicariously. :D
-
Really really cool. :)
-
Nice work, Snitchy.
The green stuff details really set it off.
:-*
Looking forward to progress reports.
:D

Yep, and coffee stirrers for the timber, you can't beat 'Em :)

I had two hours this morning to do a bit of cabinetry.

Work has been slow since I am currently setting up my hobby bench. Here are a couple of shots. There is a new folding table, stove and some bits and pieces added. Sorry about the lighting, I live in a old house with useless fixtures.

For the wagon wheels I made one a while ago. I used this as a master for an Instamold press mold. A couple of days later I had four good wheels.

Very nice work.

Nice progress - I want some in 15mm, you've shown it's possible to make them. Thanks for the inspiration.

Go Snitchy! You are a master builder, its looking great :-*
A question if I may... what glue do you use to attach the balsa to the styrene sheeting?
Many thanks
Matthew.

Thanks for the compliments all. CB, I am not using styrene sheet. The whole thing is paper mattboard and basswood coffee stirrers. I am using wood glue if that helps. I used a edged sculpting tool to scribe the planks into the surface of the mattboard before adding the basswood. Again, thanks for the comps all.

Oh sorry I did miss that in your original post, but it did look like styrene.
Card and wood glue makes more sense. A very nice job your doing of it as well. I like the little details.
Cheers

Oh my-- What a fantastic piece of work! Absolutely wonderful! I'd love to have such a masterpiece for my gypsy warband.

Very very impressed with your work. How have you made the lantern on the table?
-
What a wonderful mix of modelling skills.

Thanks again for the comps all. That is two beads set onto a earring end cap strung on a pin. That was super glued together and clipped using the pin to actually pin it in place. It also has a bit of green stuff on the gap to even it out. Pretty much the same technique to make the bottle on the shelf in the foreground on that image. Hope that helps.

Here is where I currently stand on the vargo. 2 out of 3 windows done. Frame done minus some fittings and the wheels need some work. Roof will be added after painting so I am not so worried about that. Interior is about done. I noticed some missing woodwork that I will correct tonight. On to the images.

Can't wait to see this painted, it's spectacular enough in it's current raw form!
What have you used for the window frames and shutters? It looks like tinfoil?

I used self adhering metal ducting tape with graph paper stuck to the back since at this scale I do not get on with rulers very well. The tape is thin aluminum and with the paper and superglue soaking into the paper gives you a nice ridged surface that takes primer, paint, handling, wear and tear very well. The 1 mil square graph paper lets me get a clean cut on a straight line. Hope that helps.

OK, that's genius. I've used superglue-soaked paper here and there before but layering it with aluminum tape is inspired, as is using graph paper.
Definitely filing that idea away for future reference, thanks for sharing!

Bloody clever idea with the tape/paper/glue thing too.
Another Snitchy idea blatantly stolen for future use.

Blocking out the main colors for paint. So far I am pretty happy with the effects. Just some bits and pieces left to paint up prior to sealing it for good. Kind of pissed me off that I dropped it and broke off the rear axle right after I finished painting for the day. It glued back on with out issue. Next portion of the build is to do the roof, base and the portable stairs.

In real life the sheets do not look like a bloody rag. But, after looking at the photos I might repaint them. Hope you like.
