Hi everybody,
It's my first post here.
I'm Eric, from France (so please excuse me for my english), 37yo, married with a lovely japanese wife, and we have a young boy.
I've painted and collected minis for nearly 25 years now, and after spending nearly 2 decades painting Warhammer minis (both fantasy and 40k), I'm now playing some historical games such as Ronin, SAGA or Dead Man's Hand (and with some friends, we are currently looking for the Hail Caesar rules...).
So you can expect some work in another sections !
And just to be complete, I also do some commission work (mainly on GW minis, but sometimes other things too...)
If you want to see more of my work, you can always take a look at my blog....
But enough of speaking, I'll present you my SAGA Saxons.
It's an "all plastic army", and all shields are hand painted.
- some warriors :

And the whole warband as it stands now :
I still have to add some levy bowmen (and I have conversions to do...).
-
Beautiful!
I really like the bright vibrant coulours. I wish I had the courage to paint like that. I always end up with earthen colours as those are the easiest..
-
Excellent Eric :-*
Beautiful work on the shields.
These figures have seldom looked better.
-
Lovely stuff, well done sir. :)
-
These are very very good indeed. One can see the 25 years of experience you have! Very well done!
-
Love how bright everything is, and I love the guys dual wielding swords, great job!
-
Nice colour combinations and great freehands on the shields!
Always a pleasure to see colorful armies from the dark ages
-
Welcome to the forum!
Excellent painting!! At first I thought the shields had been decorated with transfers because they are so well executed. So I was doubly impressed when I discovered they had been done by hand! Again cracking job!! :-* :-*
Look forward to more stuff from you in the future.
-
Welcome!
And very good job of the Saxons. :)
-
Welcome to LAF.
Lovelly painting. :-* :-*
More please.
-
Lovely painting and basing. Very Characterful.
-
Lovely painting - Excellent shields :-*
-
Great looking figures! Congratulations!
-
Just lovely.
Having just painted these figures myself I must say I'm impressed. I really like the two swords shield on the back guy. I did one with a (round) shield on the back but never thought of adding an extra sword.
I realised now that I forgot to add the scabbards to mine....... lol
-
Welcome Eric, nice figures, where did you get the kite shield from, I don't recall any in the Gripping Beast Saxons?
:)
-
Welcome Eric, lovely painting the shields just seem to glow :-*
-
Thanks for comments, and for the welcome !
For the shields, I really like to use bright colors (maybe it's because I've spend years painting GW bretonnians...).
where did you get the kite shield from, I don't recall any in the Gripping Beast Saxons?
A friend of mine gave them to me (initially for my "dark age wood elves" for Warhammer Battle), but I think they come from Crusader Miniatures.
They are the only metal part I will use on this army.
For the moment, this projet is on stand-by, as I'm working on commission work for 40k, but I will post some pics of other minis in other sections of the forum - Mexican for Dead Man's Hand in the Old West section
- Samurais for Ronin in the Far East section
- lots of stuff (WHFB, Furie,...) in the Fantasy section.
-
Absolutely gorgeous!
I guess I'll soon have to cave in and order some of GB's excellent plastics! ;D

Which I did today after receiving my paycheque for a fourtnight of freelancing.
Viking Hirdmen, Anglo-Saxon Thegns, and Dark Age Warriors. Should keep me busy for quite a while ::)

VERY NICE! :D

Hahaha...
So you're lost ! :D
It seems that you have enough minis in those boxes to build 2 warbands.
Hope to see them soon on the forum !
For myself, I had my 2nd game at home last sunday, against some Scots :
Very fun game, with a draw as a result...

Well, being a descendant of the Vikings, it was only a matter of time...
I shall try to get some small warbands ready for some action using the SBH 'Song of Longships and Ravens' fan-made lists relatively fast after receiving the boxes (relatively fast can mean anything from a couple of weeks up to a couple of months - depending on real life influence on my hobby time). I already started a fantasy Viking rpg project with my daughters, so i have multiple purposes for getting some minis ready for the table :D
Game looks ace!
-
With some friends, we had a little 2vs2 game 2 days ago.
Lots of fun, and some rude fights for the house in the center of the battlefield...

Now, I ust paint me more minis for my Saxons (I have 4 more huscarls on th desk) and start another warband to do some demos and play with my son...
-
Very lovely Saxons.
-
Excellent Minis Eric!
-
Thanks for comments.
This week, I've decided to add some scenery to our SAGA gaming table.
So I built a little garden, and buy me 2 apple trees :
Now, I must finish my asian sceneries for our Ronin games...
-
Oooh what green fingers you have. lol
Nice terrain.
-
Lovelly terrain. :-* :-*
Keep it coming.
-
First game of our campaign running until the end of september with 8 players.
I was the attacker, and lost the game because of the victory conditions.
But it was a moral victory as some of my anglo-danish warriors managed to kill the scot warlord (he will be missing the 3 next campaign battles, and is now seriously wounded as he has a missing limb).
-
After a very good deal, I have now a large bunch of Irish on my painting desk.
All the minis (except 2) are from Footsore Miniatures. They are really good and very nice to paint.
Here are the first two :
- a Curaidh from Crusader Miniatures (the tartan is not very historical, but it's a nice way to add some blingness to my guards and champions) :
- a druid (it's Merlin, from Footsore Miniatures) :
I have more guards on the desk, and another curaidh, so expect some news for the very soon...
-
Goodly work :-* :-*
Darrell.
-
I especially like that Merlin. Very nice 'naturalistic' mini, and good choice og colours!
-
Well, I for one love that tartan cloak; very dapper!
-
Very nice.
-
Fine looking figures.
-
cool, cool, what about your ronin stuff..
-
Thanks for comments, guys.
cool, cool, what about your ronin stuff..
Now that I have some asian scenery done, I will take some pics of them.
Otherwise, you can take a look at my blog... ;)

Some news for my irish warband
- first fiannas (Footsore Miniatures) nearly done (I'm waiting for some LBM transfers to finish the shields and glue them in place) :
- Merlin with the 2 Curaidhs (the one on the left is from Footsore) :

More pics on my blog soon...
-
Bloody hell, those are awesome. I really like your painting style. Those Irish figures are great - I've been tempted to add to my own Dark Ages stuff with some of them!
-
Wow :-* :-* Awesome painting.
-
Great painting!
-
Thanks for comments, guys !
The fiannas are now done.
- Footsore minis, with Gripping Beast shields and Little Big Men decals :
- and more Footsore minis :
More pics on the blog soon, and I will now paint the warriors....
-
Very very nice :-*
-
Munchy!
GB really should make a set of their plástic shields available - some of the best out there atm, imo!
-
Those look rather ther grand.
-
Great painting
-
:-* Wow !! Superb brushwork....the colours and tones are wonderful
-
Nice paintwork :-*
-
Thanks for comments, guys.
I must admit that the Footsore minis are really a pleasure to paint.
For today, I have painted more Dark Ages minis....
First is a commission work : a full early saxon army for Dux Brittaniarum : more than 40 GB minis to paint, with LBM shield transfers...
Here are the first minis done :
and the WIPs :
And for myself, 1pt of irish warriors :
And some sheeps as objectives or scenery
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/508619DSC04450.jpg)
-
:-* :-*Great work, I have just started on the Footsore Irish myself, great figures
-
Incredible painting, such rich colours but they still retain some nice dark age grit!
-
I like your bold painting style, it gives the figures plenty of punch :-*
-
My first look at your work Eric and I have to say you haven't wasted a day of that 25 years of painting some really nice work. I suspect painting GW figures would explain your nice bright bold colour schemes and your free hand work on the shields are a joy to look at.
I have just bought a limited selection of the Footsore mini's myself but I haven't spent much time studying them yet as I have heaps on my plate, from what I see of yours and elsewhere they were a good choice and I love what you have done with yours, if I can get mine half as good I'll be a happy man. Look forward to seeing more of your work.
-
You've brought those Soapy saxons out a treat. They really blossom under the brush, don't they? I just bought that pack myself, and had a Wild Wild West moment when I saw that the chap inspecting his sword wasn't resting his foot on a rock! :o
-
Thanks for comments, guys !
Here are some news for you.
I haven't wasted my time since the last update, but I haven't post any pics of the minis (some kind of lazyness + painting work on my home).
First, the Saxons for my commission work :
- the heroes, now done :
- some troops, wainting for some basing :
For myself, I painted 1pt of irish warriors :
And the whole irish warband as it stands now (must add a unit of dogs soon) :
Hope you'll enjoy them, and you can take a look at my blog to see more pics of those minis (and some Fantasy minis too)..

Here are the latest additions to my Irish SAGA warband :
- the old king Brian Boru and his guards (all from Footsore, shield from Gripping Beast, decal and banner from Little Big Men) :
- and the warlord of my Irish for SAGA (dog from Crusader Miniatures, shield from Gripping Beast, decal from Little Big Men) :
- and the last point of "warriors", a unit of dogs with their master (Crusader Miniatures) :
-
A sudden sense of deja vu has come over me! ;) :)
Very nice work 8) 8) 8)
Darrell.
-
Yes, but this time I have added some dogs ! ;)
Thanks for comment, Darrell. Those minis were a real pleasure to paint.
-
Nice looking minis and nice dioramic warlord bases.thanks for sharing
-
Hm. Now I want some Irish, too...
Better get back to my unfinished Viking warband, though.
The idea of using warhounds as warriors is fantastic, thanks for sharing that one! I think I need to consider making some 'bands' of dogs, too, as they make for a nice variation. I actually have 7 of the old GW Wood Elf Warhounds (wolfhound-like appearance), and I guess I'll get me some mastiffs, too.

It's an option for the Irish in SAGA games : you can change 1 unit of 8 regular warriors for a unit of dogs (7+master).
They have worse armour, but a higher movement.
And it's the kind of things that give your warband some personnality.
For those old GW warhounds, the only thing I can say is that you are a lucky man. I have only 3, and it was difficult to find them for a reasonable price.
-
Lovely painting and basing, inspiring stuff. :-*
-
Great work!
-
Very Nice Indeed,
MW

I have a lot of stuff from that period, as I was working as a games/comics store manager 1st half of the 90's, so more a case of easy accessability and being a kind of obsessive collector, actually lol
-
Yes, but this time I have added some dogs ! ;)
lol
And lovely they are too- you've done a really great job on all the mini's :-*
Thanks for comment, Darrell. Those minis were a real pleasure to paint.
I'm looking forward to ordering some of the Huscarls when Bill gets them sculpted up. I may have to order some of the Thegns just after Partizan if i haven't blown my available funds at the show! o_o
Darrell.
-
Brilliant! :-*
-
:'( i wish to be able to paint like this !
-
They look so epic! Really inspiring! :-*

Thanks for comments, guys !
Those Footsore minis were really a pleasure to paint, and I will add the slingers as soon as possible (and maybe other things...).
For today, I'm back in the Arthurian era with some Saxons for commission work (GB minis with LBM decals and banner) :

Magnifique! :-*
The limited colour palette works very well. And the green and golden / tan tones really emphasise the Irishness :)

Topping stuff to be sure.

Simply wonderfully painted!
