Sorry, not much to show just yet.
It's been a year since I've been able to sit at the workbench and work on anything hobby related. A year!! Career commitments (no, I haven't been doing porridge) and sad times on the family front have kept me away from my favourite chair.
To celebrate I'm starting a new build today. All I'll say is it's something to add to the Victorian set up (I know, I know, Mr Predictable!)
Here goes.....

Looming forward to see whatever you build
-
no, I haven't been doing porridge
Bet you've been eating it though lol
cheers
James

At last!
Welcome back!
Marco
-
Hurray! Hopefully better times ahead. :D
-
Looking for to this. Is is something common or something silly? Or both?
-
Let's hope it's that hot-air balloon factory you promised to make....
-
Pulling up a chair...
-
Its like waiting for Christmas morning :D

Pulling up a chair...
Here's the tea & Bourbons. :D

Which one of you started the build?

Which one of you started the build?
The other one, that's why they're not talking right now.

lol lol lol

lol
Thanks chaps.

lol
The other one keeps losing the scalpel so he's barred.
Looking for to this. Is is something common or something silly? Or both?
It's something that was very common but alas not so now. In the small town where I live there used to be three but now they are all gone - demolished or converted to other uses.
Let's hope it's that hot-air balloon factory you promised to make....
Now there's a thought.............
Here's the tea & Bourbons. :D
Any Hobnobs going?

Any Hobnobs going?
Only for you. Can't be raising expectations for everyone.

Right. Most of the main structure is done. Each section is painted and although they don't look weathered, they are (need to look at the settings on my camera as the pics are coming out too bright).
There are a few more details to add such as drainpipes (I ordered the wrong size fittings so they've had to go back).
This is the front section (I'll be adding a hoist next to the raised door). The opening to the left will lead into a yard:
This is one of the side sections. Bit boring but gives you an idea of the shape of one side of the building:
The next two sections are a part of the yard.
This staircase in this section is from 4ground (thanks for the heads up Dewbakuk), I couldn't be bothered to build my own so this one will do nicely, I'll add some railings to it though.
This section is only half painted as the left side will be covered by an adjoining wall. The opening on the right is the other side of the access to the courtyard:

So, any ideas what it is yet? Another clue is I've commissioned Jimbibbly at Oshiro to put a large chimney stack together for me ;)
-
I know, I know!

I know, I know!
I don't...

I don't...
This does not surprise me ::)

Looks great..... 8)
..... A brewery?
That's what I thought, then I kept scrolling down and saw you'd mentioned it.
To be fair "masses of barrels" kind of gives it away. lol
-
Ah, it was actually the mention of the chimney that lead me: made me think of the old Romford Brewery (IIRC the home of John Bull) and the smell of the mash filling the air.... Now it's just another 'one-of-the-same' shopping centre. :D
-
brewery ;)
-
Ohh, that stairwell works well. Your build is going to be a stonker! 8)
-
Is it a traction engine factory?
-
Wonderful build once again TC :-*
Can't wait to see it finished! And after that we get treated with a whole town shot?
-
Is it a traction engine factory?
Ooh, I do hope so!
-
Looks awesome as always looking forward to the finished build
-
Thanks chaps :)
No it's not a brewery......................... ok, yes it is lol

I thought about the John Bull brewery but I've gone for Truman's as it's chimney was, and still is, a land mark in Whitechapel.
Is it a traction engine factory?
Now there's a great idea (he said pencilling the project in for 2020).
And after that we get treated with a whole town shot?
That can be done. :)
-
Now we can call have a pint. 8)
...
Oi! What's this? My glass is 3mm tall!

That can be done. :)
Most excellent :)

Only just caught it, though, as it has such a naff title that I obviously didn't bother looking before.
;D ;D ;D
Ohh, that stairwell works well. ....
It sure does.
Off to 4Ground to invest in a few.
:D
-
Thanks matey :)

I've now put the main structure together so you can get an idea of what it will look like. It's still very much work in progress with heaps to do, so ignore wonky drainpipes, lack of weathering, dodgy joins, glue marks etc.
Main features to add over the next few days are the roof and boundary wall, then I'll crack on with the detailing (there's lots to do!!!).
Jimbibbly has cut me a terrific conical chimney but I'm still working on it so have used one of his other chimneys for now. They are similar in size though.
The pictures I'm taking are coming out very bright (even without flash) so the paintwork is darker than it appears in the pics. The brightness is also obliterating the weathering I have done. I wont use my phone next time.
Anyway, here's a few pics:

Excellent, Sir! Pleasure to see such brilliant work.

What do you do for a living? Don't you get the whole summer off? and this is all you manage in all that time? you don't need to bring the work ethic home with you ;D ;D ;D
Looking good dude :-* :-* :-* :-*

Brilliant as always. You seem to be able to lift the bar every time you start another one. ;D

First time I have seen this thread :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Cracking job should fit in well with your other stuff

Another superb building in the making, very lovely! :-*

Thank you all very much :)
Trying to get some more done today but crap weather and a poorly daughter is putting a spanner in the works.

Did someone mention booze..........
-
Great progress looking forward to see what details you add to the yard
-
Beautiful, beautiful work!
-
stunning :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Fantastic.
Can you share how you made the big wooden doors please?
I have a build of my own underway but have been stumped somewhat on suitable barn doors.
Cheers
-
Thanks for the kind words gents. :)
The roof is onbut no tiles yet (Jimbib - I'll be sending you an order for some of your tiling wares soon) and the boundary wall is being cut tonight. I'll have more pics up at the weekend.
Rabbitz, I use balsa wood with marginally less thickness than the foamed PVC I use for the main structure. I score the wood for the plank effect then add strips of plastic for the hinges. I usually cut the hinges to a point but I haven't got time for this build. I can see if I've got any WIP pictures in the archives if you like
-
Jimbib - I'll be sending you an order for some of your tiling wares soon
Ah good. Another opportunity to amuse your local postman >:D

Brilliant work. I'm getting thirsty just watching it go up.

How did I miss this? Looks fantastic!

Splendid Brewery!
If you prefer old school equipment: Thomarillion from Germany does a nice pot still.

If you're anything like me, it's all about denial. 'Oh, no he did NOT make me look that lazy again!' ;)
Tis a stunning WIP, TC.

Oh, that IS nice! And, I like they recognize possible use in a fantasy setting.

I had a few unexpected days off work which gave me time to work on the build.
As you can see from the pics the roof is on and tiled, the yard is paved and the yard wall is up. That's pretty much the main structure complete and now it's down to the fiddly detailing, filling and weathering. There's a lot to do but with things at work winding down for Crimbo I'll have the time.
For the tiles I used card tile sheets from Jimbibbly's Oshiro Terrain. They're easy to work with and produce a slightly uneven look that fits the part.

Good to see you back at it.
:D
(I need to find something for you too..... ::))
-
Masterclass stuff! Very inspirational mate! :-*
-
I can almost smell the malt... Stunning Neil :-*
-
Fine work! :-*
Now you just need to connect a proper beer tap to it somehow (maybe on the chimney) so you can have a pint or two the proper way while gaming :)
-

Well, we cannot see the top of said chimney so he may well have already done that!
Have ya, Cheeky?
Have ya?
;D ;D

That would make for an interesting BLAM. lol

Great looking building.
Thank you for sharing the images.

Great work, I always look forward to your Victorian builds :-* :-*

-
stunning ! How did you paint the mortar ?
-
That is wonderful.
-
Thanks very much chaps! :)
Good point about the beer. Maybe I should create one. Hmmmmmmm......
Forgot to mention, the sign is from the old Truman brewery in Whitechapel. Anyone see the connection to Jack the Ripper (apart from the obvious Whitechapel bit)?
-
Very not bad at all. You really have an eye for detail there.
Snitchy sends.
-
Cheers Snitchy. :)
-
I think it's finished! I cast my eye over the build last night and I'm happy to sign it off to the world of gaming. There's a few small things I could tweak but there comes a time to draw the line and move on (I'm sure we've all been there).
Since my last post I've added the small details that finish it off: more drainage, weathering and lighting.
Anyway, here's the finished article:
A few pics of the yard. The lighting I used for the camera has obliterated the weathering, but I promise it's there ;)
A view through the entrance. I've added bollards to the corners of the entrance; a detail I've noticed on many buildings of that era.
The outside walls and the front from another angle:
Finally a view including the top of the chimney (sorry Pocoloco, no beer tap attached yet ;))
Actually, I need to get some soot on the top of that chimney.
Right! What next...................................
-
A true masterpiece once again! :-* (even without the beer tap ;) )
When are we treated with a new pic with everything you have build for this setting so far on it?
-
Even Here in Hamburg I can smell the Beer! Great work like the Rest.
-
Lovely :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks chaps.
Group shot is planned over the Crimbo holidays when a small game will be had :)
-
Simply superb.
-
Stunning, in fact! :-*
Your becoming a real artisté, TC!
-
That is a really fantastic piece of work! Im a great fan of your copper weathering on the drainage.
But one little Logical bug is made by that great diorama. The Beerwagon is broader then the entrance to the yard ;-)
-
Magnificent piece of Scenery!!! As usual your finishing details blow me away :o :o
so what's next ? Music Hall? East end mission?or a Government building to be a target for Anarchists!!??
Anyway thanks for sharing and hope you have a Merry Christmas!
-
Nice one Cheeks. So much to admire but I am oddly drawn to the design of the chimney.
-
Thank you gentlemen.
But one little Logical bug is made by that great diorama. The Beerwagon is broader then the entrance to the yard ;-)
Have you ever bought some flat-pack furniture, put it together, then realised the hard way it doesn't fit through the door to the room you want to put it in? This was a 19th century flat pack wagon lol
So much to admire but I am oddly drawn to the design of the chimney.
Good design that.
-
All kinds of brilliant. Beautiful work.
-
That my friend is a triumph. :-*
-
Looks great. Was fun watching it come together.
-
The usual brilliance we've all come to expect, well done. Esp. like the way you've used a different bons on the chimney to the walls. 8)
-
Magnificent !
-
Absolutely stunning, mate.
As we have come to expect, of course.
:-* :-*
-
Woooooow, that's so realistic! Fantastic work.
-
Ever so good. Mine's a pint.
-
Small dreams son!..... Small dreams! I'll have a barrel load! ;)
Brilliant Neil! :-*
-
Oh, dear, dear. Something critical is missing. You forgot the disappointed sot hanging about who applied for - and the brewery personnel department quickly realized was a drunkard - being the taster. No self-respecting brewery can be without him. Outside the fence, of course. And this seems a rather respectable bit of work. :o
-
Don't Shadowforge have a drunken monk among their figures? He might suit?

Splendid.
-
Excellent building - very atmospheric too! A brewery is something I have to build yet...well, along so many other things... ::)
-
Superb! All the little details just bring it to life.
-
Glorious
Right up my strasse. It would be a pleasure to fight in and around it
Keep up the good work
-
Thank you all very much indeed :)
Taking advice from me 'ol chum Malamute, I need to finish what I've already started before moving on and so I'll be finishing the undertakers. Update soon.

The alternative B&B, Bottle and Blanket. It's like a premier Inn for hobos.
I should also add that the brewery is a masterpiece.

Yes. I dry brush brown masonry paint on to an Army Painter Skeleton Bone undercoat.
