Title: Thaw of the Lich Lord Nickstarter launched
Post by: nicknorthstar on September 25, 2015, 02:28:31 PM
It's already been mentioned here  lol but the Nickstarter pre-order program for the next Frostgrave book, Thaw of the Lich Lord, was started today.

You can read all about it here:
 http://nstarmagazine.com/FROSTGRAVE_LICH_LORD.htm

There will be new Frostgrave figures coming out over the next month as well, including Mr Copplestones 'evil' Barbarian, Thief and Tracker. These will be available to pre-order by Nickstarter participants, and on general release late November.

I've just bought the Level 4 "Lich Wizard" package, plus the Lich Lord figure.  Looks like a great addition to the game.

Please make clear what is and is not exclusive to the Nickstarter.  What won't I ever be able to buy unless I do the Nickstarter.  As it stands now, it seems everything will eventually be available for purchase after the Nickstarter.  This is important to know.  Thanks!

Are the new tokens used 3/game or 3 per player?

The Nickstarter isn't about limited-edition models – All the stuff not listed as a freebie will definitely be available later ("Thaw of the Lich Lord products will be on general release after the 20th of November 2015"), and even the freebies will probably be released at some point (the site does say: "Nickstarter Thaw of the Lich Lord free items may go on sale at some point in the future").

The emphasis is on discounts, early release and free models: "We are making it worth your while with a bit of discount and some free and unique models that won't be immediately available to anyone else".

So, you will be able to buy all the models when they're officially released, but pre-ordering gets you stuff sooner, for less money AND with some free models.

Are the new tokens used 3/game or 3 per player?

3 per player, just as for a normal Frostgrave scenario.

Though as someone who backed the first Frostgrave Nickstarter but didn't buy all the extras, there are a few metal figures I wish I had bought as they are not now available...so probably best to get in now.

Like Phil said, the free figures will be in packs later on. But it probably won't be until next summer before you can buy the Gnoll Chieftain.

I can't see me selling the free 'evil' treasure tokens any time soon either.

Cheers
Nick

Nick,

The description for the Dark Couldron says it's metal in the first sentence and resin in the second sentence.
I'm not criticizing, just letting you know.

Any option for just the cards & Book? Seems that the cards only turn up in the higher tier pledges, and whilst new soldier types are interesting, I'm more interested in rules when I have tons of models to play with already. =/

Cards are available as a £7.50 add-on at any backer level.

Yeah the first level is for the book only (including 3 New free treasure tokens) and once you've purchased you'll get an email with a password giving you access to the full new range including the spell cards

Thanks for the cauldron note. Kev thought it was going to be metal originally, but it'll be resin (if we get to that spend level of course).

In regards to the book and cards, like the other guys said.

The card deck will retail at £10, it's at the cheaper £7.50 price during the Early Bird period.

Hey Nick, I'm in at level 1 at the moment. I'll be seeing how my funds are later on to see if I can upgrade. Will shipping still be at the £5 rate if I upgrade after the early bird time has expired?

Welcome to the forum Cyrus the Great.
No matter how many of a certain type of model we have we always seem to find a reason or need for another when it's a nice model, especially when you see how others have painted them up so well. Part of what I like about LAF is how much inspiration you can get for trying new games or miniatures and how to paint them.

Hi Beefcake

Yes, in a word. It's always safe to just add in the notes that you placed your order early, but part of our admin is making sure Early Bird orders are kept together.

So this means if you place your Deal order this week, even when we release new figures in a months time, you can add them to your Early Bird order for no extra postage.

Nick

I was about to ask the same thing, so thanks for the info. This is the first time i pledge in a Kick/Nickstarter thing and i'm very happy to see it's going smoothly. The happy customer in me will definitely want to add extra stuff on a regular basis! ;)

Thanks for the answer. Are we able to purchase other northstar stuff and add it in with this package too? I'm eyeing up the ruins you recently added for frostgrave. Perhaps even some of those tents to make a camp site (scattered bones around that would look great and be a great point to have a snow troll start at)

Strictly speaking, you can only add Thaw of the Lich Lord stuff to your Early Bird post offer orders. But, just put in the notes, 'I'm From LAF don't you know' and I'll make sure it's all put in the same order under the same deal.

I've been mulling over getting into Frostgrave for weeks so the Lich Lord deal is ideal for me!

Two questions:

I can't quite tell, are the Javelineer and Crow 'Master' male or female?

And does the Lich Lord offer still come with the free Knight?
Title: Re: Thaw of the Lich Lord Nickstarter launched
Post by: tyrionhalfman on September 27, 2015, 09:44:08 AM
They look female from the pic.
The knight was one of the spend goals from the first nickstarter, while there are new spend goals for this one.according to the nickstarter page the first three are a free new Templar, a free sprue from the soldiers box and a free resin cauldron, with more spend goals to follow if they get reached.

Hello.
Just to be sure, i'm at level one, so i only paid £10+5 (shipping) at the moment. If i want to add extra stuff, should i pay again the minimum 5£ shipping each time i add a new item, or the total shipping cost is calculated again in order to 20% of the whole order? If not, i guess it's better to wait for the very last day to order extra stuff and get a reasonnable shipping! :)
Sorry, first nickstarter for me, so i'm not sure... If someone can help me, thanks in advance and have a good day everyone!

It states on the Nickstarter page that the early bird special free shipping (or £5 overseas shipping) only applies to Level 3 or above. The Early Bird offer only runs until October 5th so you need to back the Nickstarter at Level 3 or above before then. It does, however, apply to any additional Thaw of the Lich Lord Nickstarter stuff that you add-on at a later date right up to the end of the Nickstarter on November 20th...so you would only pay the £5 once regardless of when you add the extras.

Thanks for that. The Javelineer put me in mind of a male wild elf type, but then I'm not sure if elves/dwarves etc. feature in Frostgrave.

I wasn't sure about the knight as he appears in the graphic for the deal and is mentioned on the website entry for the deal. However he doesn't seem to be mentioned in the blurb on the nickstarter info page.

Just waiting for some pay to come in so I can get my order in.

Reckon I'll go level 3 again as the best combo of cost and goodies that I can do something with.

The Crow Master does look female, the Javelineer is pretty androgynous to me.

The first nickstarter took a few days for my email to arrive which had me wondering if my order had gone through but then the email arrived and I was relieved. This time around I was prepared for a delay so was pleasantly surprised when it arrived the next day. So my experience would suggest that the timescale varies, probably depending on the volume of orders needing replying to?

Good spot! Interesting figure. I wonder if all the 'Evil' characters are cultist based.

Of the three I've seen - the Marksman, ***** and ********** - the Marksman is clearly based on the cultist in the art on the plastic box, but the other two move somewhat beyond that look. They fit perfectly into the cult theme, but would work as independent contractors if you wanted something a little less... culty.

If you've ordered Thaw of the Lich Lord Nickstarter from Sally 4th, just a reminder that a couple of days ago we added a page where you can order all other additional items. Currently we have all of the individual items that make up the 5 pre-order deals plus Cards, Genie, Snow Troll, White Gorrila and Frost Giant. As soon as new items are announced by Northstar, we will get them added to the page. You do not need a code to view this page.

We will be supplying all of the spend goal related freebies that are available through Northstar (so currently all orders, level 3-5 will get the new Templar and a Frostgrave 5 soldier plastic sprue), in addition Sally 4th are giving a free 9 tile Terra-Block Mausoleum to everyone who orders at level 4, and a free 53 tile dungeon starter set (RRP £50) to everyone who orders a level 5 starter.
Normal Sally 4th Free shipping applies so; Free UK shipping for orders over £50, free European shipping for orders over £75, free US (and the rest of Wolrld zone 2) shipping for orders over £100 and free to anywhere else for orders over £125.

Went and looked at the cultist marksman on Facebook. Then I thought, "ahh !@#$. Another warband idea. I like him but don't want to start a cultist warband until I get more done on my second warband and help the kids with their warbands. Frostgrave's killing me with too many ideas for themed warbands.  ;D

Will the marksman and other two mentioned be available to buy before the Nickstarter ends? I'm already planning on spending more than I should right now on it so what's another few minis.

We're not sure if they'll be available before the end of the Nickstarter. We only have a month to get everything moulded and cast.

Right now we are expecting the Evil Thief and Barbarian by Mark Copplestone, Cult Marksman by Giorgio Bassani and Evil Apothecary by Mark Copplestone, Evil Tracker by Mark Copplestone and evil Wardog by Giorgio Bassani, Evil Knight and Templar by Mark Sims, Boar and Giant Rats by Bob Naismith and Zombie Snow Troll from Mike Owen. Plus some secret figures for the Spend Goals.

Alright innit?

Place your order for Level Three, and in the notes put 'Already ordered Level One' We'll then just charge you the difference between what you've paid already and how much the new deal is.

Any one who has ordered from Sally 4th can also upgrade!
Just check out the new items, place a comment in the comments box that you are wanting to upgrade, complete your order but do not pay for it through Paypal checkout.

We will then send you a Paypal invoice for the difference.

As we don't have much time before the end of the Nickstarter, a number of the planned packs may have to go into a post-Nickstarter figure release. We'll see.

The next Spend Goal figures are a Frostwraith at level 4 and a Vampire at level 5. Both are by Giorgio Bassani, but we've not moulded them so there's no pictures just yet.

You can see the Frostwraith on the Nickstarter page. Thats the next Spend Goal reward.

Everyone who is in level 3 and above is now going to get the Dark Cauldron, free. This is a model I don't think we'll ever sell (though don't quote me), but it represents the dark Cauldron in Scenario 8 in the book Thaw of the Lich Lord. It works like the Cauldron of the Dead from Celtic Mythology.

It's a great little model from Bob Naismith, with decoration around the outside, and a swirling 'soup' of ghostly visages inside.

Here in our house the hype is getting bigger and bigger... And, although the miniatures are great (level 4 and extras), we want- no, we NEED- more information about the campaign and the new soldiers. Please, could you be magnanimous and give us a hint about:
-How the crow master (love the concept) and the bard will work.
-How powerful is the Lich Lord.
-What the gnoll is a Rangifer.
-What is the difference between a Liche and a wizard? New powers? A new list of soldiers to add the ones we have(cultists, ghouls, maybe skeletons)?
-Are the objectives of the campaign different if you choose a "good" wizard or an lich wizard?

Thanks for a great game.
(Man, my wife and I are bitting our fingernails in excitement.)

I'm going to have to apologise.

I promised to keep adding new figures to the Nickstarter page. Due to the response to the Nickstarter, the boys (& Christine) at North Star are hard pushed to get everything we've already shown ready in time, I don't want to pile on the pressure.

I think I'll save the new releases for a post-Lich Lord release.

As mentioned before we've had delivery of:
Evil Apothecary (MC)
Evil Thief (MC)
Boar and Giant Rats (BN)
Evil Tracker (MC)
Evil Marksman (GB)

Plus more to come.

I hope to be able to show a picture of the Cultist plastic frame later this week.

Any pics of the Cultists frame and bits?

From Northstar FB page:

It's only a test frame, so there's a piece not on, and the photos off my telephone, but here's the Cultist Frame!
Top row: left arms, equipment and weapons.
Next row: equipment, weapons, equipment and left hands to swop aboout on the left arm.
Next Row: Undead options
Last row: 12 heads, 5 bodies.

Post by: tyrionhalfman on October 17, 2015, 07:45:18 AM
Looks great, thanks for sharing the pic.

I think the decision to put the undead options in there will have left less room for more variety in weapons and spare equipment Bloodaxe. I think there's still enough variety there to make this a fantastic kit to make evil henchmen, cultists and undead.
But mixing parts between the two kits will give even more variety and lead to some really interesting and unique bands.
I can imagine a warband of rough looking thugs alongside more civilised men at arms looking really good, showing how a wizard had to lower his standards to bulk out his ranks when his funds started running low.
Title: Re: Thaw of the Lich Lord Nickstarter launched
Post by: nicknorthstar on October 17, 2015, 11:15:31 AM
Tyrionhalfman got it right. We made a choice not to add as many weapon options. You have what you need to build a warband, but because we designed the Cultists to mix and match with the Soldiers, you have all those weapon arms to use as well (I suspect there's a lot of spare arms around). We also chose not to repeat backpacks and ropes etc, but gave you Cultist accoutrements instead.

The frame is only the test frame, it doesn't show the buckler shield. There are a number of 'left hands' so you can cut the ones off the arms to give you more variety, which is different to the Soldier box set.

Instead of adventuring gear, some potion bottles, books, bells, bones, skulls or other weird cult gear would have been good. I get what you are saying though. Still looks like a nice set.

A plastic wizard set would have been great. Lots of staffs , wands, heads, books, bits with two robed bodies. Something like the GW Empire plastic wizard kit.

''A plastic wizard set would have been great. Lots of staffs , wands, heads, books, bits with two robed bodies. Something like the GW Empire plastic wizard kit.''

True, but first you have to realize that making a plastic sprue is expensive,it has to be a guaranteed seller, consider frostgrave players, many have already bought the metal wizards and thus don't need more, secondly those same minis would then sell less as people ignore them for the hypothetical plastic kit.
Title: Re: Thaw of the Lich Lord Nickstarter launched
Post by: beefcake on October 18, 2015, 02:53:44 AM
Yeah although great for adding variety they probably wouldn't sell the volume they can of warrior type sprues as you might need 10-20 of those minis where as with wizards you only want 2 for Frostgrave and probably 1 in other cases.

I'm sure the only thing I've read as Nickstarter only not planned for future release is the cauldron so hopefully the Lich Lord will be available separately

Is there any other possible way of getting the Lich Lord, apart from getting the most expensive Nickstarter levels? I'm a bit broke right now, and I'm only interested in that miniature.

If you get any of the levels and gain access to the add-ons section you can purchase the Lich Lord.  I did it.

Another view of some Frostgrave action in the 'Terra-Block Mausoleum'. This is the free Terra-Block terrain that we have put together to send out as a thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered their Level 4 Nickstarter from Sally 4th. So far, it has been very, very popular. Anyone who has pre-ordered a level five through us has a complete 'Terra-Block Dungeon' included for free.

Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on all of the Nickstarter goodies, especially those plastic cultists.

We have all of the add on's available to, including the Lich Lord, but this are only visible on a link we email out once you have placed a Nickstarter order with us!

Chris, I ordered a Nickstarter level 5 from your good self but I don't seem to have been sent any link to the other stuff. Will Sally 4th customers get access to see the Rangifier that Nick mentioned ?

Hello,

Very sorry if I missed you off the list of customers we sent the link out to. If you can email me or pm me with your name or email address, I will get it sorted out and send you the link straight away.

Yes, you will be able to pre-order any of the extra's. As soon as Nick makes them available, we add them to our secret Nickstarter page.

The first scenario doesn't need anything beyond what you have for the basic game.

Seriously, this game just keeps getting better and better and better. So far, I may have disliked 1 model, the rest are just awesome. I like the setting, I love the old school feel of it, and every time something new is released, I find myself pleasantly surprised.

Not a lot of games can do that.

I'm intrigued by the lich lord treasure table (as shown in one of the images in the review: http://thegaragegamers.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/frostgrave-thaw-of-lich-lord-review-by.html). Surely the 'book of the rangifer' will allow our wizards to summon those creatures!

Seriously though, the figures are all ready. We're just waiting for the book, the spell decks and the free cauldrons, and we're ready to start shipping. I would hope it'll be end of next week.

Also, color me impressed: yesterday, I received a box labeled "1 of 2" with half of my Nickstarter goodies in it.  All stuff that was in stock, but still: it apparently made it through customs and arrived in Oklahoma, USA in the space of two days.  Or else Nick is mailing preemptively just to impress me.

Yes, I think we'll have everything ready to ship Tuesday next week. We're starting now, the post bags are building up. There's still an item we're waiting for, it should be delivered next Monday and we can get all the orders out Tuesday, Wednesday if the postman messes us around (like last time grrrr).

Unfortunately there will be no Thaw of the Lich Lord to buy at the Reading show this weekend, but I'll have some built up Cultists to show off on the Wargames Emporium stand. I'll be there if you want to come along to say hello. If you want to be rude, don't come over.  lol

Crappy news today. The Spell Cards have been delayed two days, they are the last item we need for the Nickstarter.

We're planning to ship the orders who haven't included spell decks on time, then follow up 2 days later with the orders that do need them adding.

I hope everyone's okay with that.

Against my instinct to send everything together later this week, we've been sending the Nickstarters out in batches. Please be patient, some may not be arriving until end of the week.

I'd be interested to hear when the first American order arrives.

And yes, we have shipped to our retailers who have participated in the Nickstarters, so please bear with them as well!!

For the ones who are waiting for it (and expecting at least two weeks), may you-oh, fortunate ones- give us a little hint about the Crow master? A spoiler about the level power of the Lich Lord? A short review of the new soldiers and spells to create hype?
Title: Re: Thaw of the Lich Lord Nickstarter launched
Post by: ChaosChild on November 17, 2015, 12:26:07 AM
Crowmaster comes with a Blood Crow that moves and acts separately, but you need to add a special building to your HQ before you can include one in your warband.

Lich Lord power level; one word, scary. High level necromancer with many spells, most improved (Bone Dart on 5+), and 25 health. Plus he comes with an equally scary retinue, that turn up with him even when he's a random encounter.

Been too busy playing games this evening to really look into it in detail. Looks really good though.

Well, an update from Oklahoma: Box 2 of 2 arrived today with all the rest of the non-Liche Lord related products from my Nickstarter pledge.  I'm clipping the sprues on henchmen now, and working to snip and saw the bases off of my new pewter wizards.  Huzzah!

Looking forward to the cultists and such whenever they should arrive.

Smith - thanks for the links, that first shipwreck at 29cm long looks promising.

Davies - another thing about the Crowmaster is that you essentially get to field 2 figures for one warband slot, which is nice. Also, if the crow gets killed but the master survives, the crow gets replaced for free at the end of the game. The Bard gives a bonus to willpower for nearby friendly figures. Javelineer is a bit meh - poor at fighting and shooting but cheap. The Mule can carry 3 (iirc) items and exchange items with nearby friendly figures which opens up a lot of possibilities of you are lucky enough to have more items than available item slots in your warband.

Death Cultists are weak in all respects (stats-wise not the sprues) but some of the other creatures are downright nasty.

The new magic items bring in quite a few new features and seem to be well thought out.

The scenarios all look interesting with environmental effects, special terrain, monsters and so on.

For those wishing to get a head start on preparing terrain for the new scenarios, here is what you will need:

At least one wrecked ship and preferably a few more smaller ships or boats.
A cart or wagon.
A cauldron.
A throne.
6 doorways.
4 pillars.
The strange one is a 6 inch diameter wheel (think something like a bicycle wheel lying on its side but made of bones!). I'll probably make one with 6 or 12 straight sides rather then being truly circular, mounted about an inch above the ground with a few spokes coming out from the central mounting.*
You could also make 2 3 feet by 6 inches sections of riverbank if you really wanted to but this isn't at all essential.

Monster-wise some of the scenarios require Armoured Skeletons, Frost Wraiths, Death Cultists, 2 Banshees, the Ghoul King, a zombie troll, and another uses 6 Ragnifiers (hybrid reindeer beast thingies).

There are probably a few things I missed out but those are the ones I noticed on first reading.

* if you wanted to go the whole hog you could get some 'casualty' figures (Gripping Beast make some) that could be tied/strapped to the wheel!

Thanks! Very useful information, it gives us time to build the new scenaries (Is there a river in Frostgrave?!!)

The Crowmaster will be a welcomed addition to my bands (and it will give a chance to some miniatures of my collection...Owlmaster...Batmaster... Falconer...).

Yes there is a river. In the scenario it features in it is frozen so playing on a white table would handle that quite nicely :)

Thanks for the info, Nooblord. I'm hoping to get my Lichelord stuff soon and can't wait to see what's new. Looks like I won't need to expand the bestiary except for the Ragnifiers. I'm getting 2 with the Deal X but might want more. For some reason I like the creepy elk critters.

I understand it will be shipped at a later date, correct ?

Welcome to the forum weirdocollector. Yeah I think the deal x stuff we're not going to be ready to order individually before the nickstarter ended so they decided to add them as a bundle which would be shipped at a later date.

I thought I remember reading there was a dungeon scenario also?  Is this in there?

I think it will be the next instalment Into the Breeding Pits that includes dungeon style adventures

I would say we already have one in the form of the Library.  Just thought there was another like it.  It does sound like the breeding pits will be dungeon (actually caverns) centric.

The only real spoiler we got from the breeding pits is it's dark in there and that visibility is limited to 24". Although people have on more than one occasion have said that dungeons are an eventual locale that will be explored.

The Nickstarter is over for us now, it's all packed up and on it's way out.

Because we've sent them over the last week, they are going to arrive with people piecemeal, if you've not got yours yet don't worry, it will be any day now. Thank you very much for your patience and I hope you enjoy the game and the figures when they arrive.

Now, onto book three...

Osprey are printing the spell cards, so it's their call.

All I know right now is there are only a few Hundred left, and we haven't started supplying retail shops yet. To be safe, I'd grab a deck now.

I was amused to see Amazon are out of stock of Thaw of the Lich Lord already. I wonder who bought them all....

I am less amused when I read on here that some folks who have preordered it from second hand providers have had it delivered and have already read it ... when I backed the nickstarter and mine hasn't turned up yet. I am beginning to think I must have messed up the order ... is there some way i can check if that is the case?

Title: Re: Thaw of the Lich Lord Nickstarter launched

Drop us an email Harry and we'll chase it for you.

All the Nickstarters are out there in the hands of the postman.

The time between the Nickstarters being ready and the release date by Osprey was three days. There was always going to be a cross over of supply. The big thing we can't control is the books because they come from Osprey not us. We have held back selling the figures before the Nickstarters left to avoid winding people up, I'd have loved to have the Cultists for sale at Warfare in Reading last weekend but we couldn't do that.

My point is always, Nickstarters are not about you getting your stuff before your mate. They are about you supporting us by pre-ordering product and we making that worth your while by giving you free stuff and discounts. To avoid Thaw of the Lich Lord arriving in shops at the beginning of November I bought the whole print run. I tried to buy the whole second print run too, but couldn't, the result being some geezer gets his copy a few days ago and you get wound up Harry.

Something we did this time differently was staggering the shipping of Nickstarters. In the past the whole thing went in one day. This time, because the Spell Card decks were delayed, we started shipping those orders that didn't need cards first, with the rest following quickly after. I knew it would lead to comments of 'my mates got his where's mine' but it was a choice we made.

It's always our intention to do the very best we can for you guys, spare a thought for the North Star chaps who work hard on your behalf with this story.

We have 1000 parcels filling up the office and warehouse. They just need the spell card decks. A truck arrives. Hurrah. Casters drop their ladles, office staff drop their keyboards, it's all hands on deck to get the Nickstarters out that day. Exciting. Pallet is forklifted off, we sign the docket for the driver. Nick says 'How big are these spelldecks?' looking at the giant pallet. Dean rips open the wrapping, cuts open a box to find it's full of computer parts. Where's the Spell Decks? The delivery driver looks baffled, there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst the faithful North Star workers.

Needless to say, the card decks were found and delivered later on, but just another hassle in the background of getting these big projects out the door.  :)

Those who got it were all directly from Northstar I believe, with a few in the UK having gotten their order through other suppliers now. There is bound to be some delay if it is first shipped to another company and then through to you - perhaps more so since shipments may have been sent out only when the cards where available?

My order is coming through Germany (Miniaturicum - needed to add a bunch of Reaper critters to fill out the bestiary!), no shipment confirmation yet but I assume it'll be send out later this week.

@nick re the broken axes,

Th first one I clipped off broke in two as people have said, after that I held the piece between 2 fingers whilst clipping it and that seemed to stop it happening.
Below is a picture of the broken axe and a picture of it glued back together.
As you can see in the first photo, it breaks in a 'ball and socket' kind of way
and re-glues very well, presuming you can find it if ( like mine did) half of it pings across the room.

Jim

Well, yeah that is how it works. Not really sure why you would expect otherwise.
The parcels then get dropped off at the post - generally early morning - and sometime during the day the post will scan it as received. Generally, Priority Mail takes 2-3 days and their system doesn't always catch up until after the parcel is delivered during that normal timeframe.

We are working very hard to get everything out as fast as possible. 12 cases of product arrived around 6pm on Monday.

The worst is when you have "that feeling".  You know the one.  It's the feeling telling you today is the day your package is going to come.  You have no evidence.  You have no proof.  You just know..  and wouldn't you know it, you're home that day.  You'll have time to go through everything when it comes.  You daydream about it.  You watch unboxing videos for people with the same package. You plan out what to look at first.  You do little things here and there to pass the time.  Out the window you see the postman park on the corner and you watch.  He doesn't get out.  He's sorting.  You feel awkward staring so you go busy yourself with minor distractions.  You go back to the window... his little van is gone!  Deliveries for your area are done!  You open the door to grab your loot.  But...there's no package...  not even a flier in your mailbox...  "Why?" you ask.  "I was sure it would be today." "I'm a good person, aren't I?".  "Tomorrow for sure!"

I take it all back - post just arrived (at 2.30pm ... ) and I snatched my Northstar box of goodies out of the postie's hands. The Lich Lord book will accompany me on a long train journey tomorrow.

Howdo folks-
Got my box of Lich-Lord goodness yesterday, and started putting together a new Summoner Cult warband...
However, my 'DealX' pack (the one including the Vampire, 'evil' Soldiers etc) wasn't in there... I seem to recall something about this being released after the main stuff, but I can't for the life of me find where I read that and I don't want to bother the good folks at Northstar if they are sending this pack out separately from the main Nickstarter orders!
Anyone able to clarify my fuzzy memory on this?  o_o
Cheers!

While it is annoying that my Kickstarter was delayed while Osprey is already releasing the book, that is just how things work sometimes.  It isn't like this is the first Kickstarter ever that had glitches.  Earlier I saw a post from Brigade Games that they have the containers and are shipping stuff out.  I just received notice that my package has received its label....on Thanksgiving!  Kudos to the folks at Brigade Games for working the Holiday to keep me happy!

Got my package yesterday in germany (including cards).

No problems with snapping axes and everything in order.

First cultists assembled yesterday and super exited about how they look.... nice mix + match with the initial release of soldiers although you need to take both arms from the same sprue because of different sleeves (but that does not really matter)...

Perfect and happy again  :D

The Evil Soldiers were part of the "Deal X", which will be released hopefully before the first of the year, but not as part of the Lich Lord NickStarter. Unfortunately, I didn't get the DealX order placed in time, so I have to wait for them to be released for regular purchase.

On a different note, I have a question about the Cultist sprue.  It looks like there is a belt accessory that contains a poison potion and what appears to be a wooden stake.  Maybe it's a dagger, but it doesn't appear to be.  Can anyone confirm?

Received mine today here in Norway. And it seems the customs didn't bother with this one. Goodies...

I have a belt accessory that appears to be a poison bottle, a curved dagger (in a sheath) and a stake. Most definitely a stake.

Lots of nice options on that sprue.  ;D

That will be perfect for my vampire hunting Thaumaturge warband.  Fortunately, the sculpted poison "label" can be shaved off easily enough.  I'll have to take a closer look at the curved dagger though.

It's a stake.

Or a horn.

The poison bottle does mean to could put an Apothecary together in plastic.

I've been thinking about that myself. Since the next splatbook is due for release in July, I would expect the next Nickstarter to be announced in March or April. What I find interesting is that the TotLL Nickstarter came with a Gnoll Captain, a creature that has no stats in either book. Foreshadowing, perhaps?

That would depend on which distributor they ordered from and when they will dispatch it to your store. If they ordered direct from North Star, they would probably get them after all of the NickStarter backer orders have been shipped. If they ordered from a US distributor, no telling.

Brigade Games USA keeps the Renedra bases in stock so you could order from them quickly. Since I started pulling stuff for Frostgrave, I've been ordering bases directly from Renedra or Brigade regularly.

Ah, mine finally arrived.  Unboxed it last night, started divying up parts.  I love it.  A few observations:

(1) I can see what some people are saying about the axe part on the cultist sprue.  I have tons of axe arms from things, so it's not a major concern, but the first one I tried to remove from the sprue actually broke before I even got started.  Busted axe parts will now be used for terrain decoration I suppose.

(2) The armored skeletons look great, but the pole for the poleaxe (pole-pick?  Pole-sickle?) is very thin.  The hand is thick enough, though, that I'll drill it out and replace the pole with a brass rod.

(3) The lich wizard and apprentice look great too, but I'm pretty worried about the staff on this guy.

(4) There was that moment of surprise when I didn't find a giant, white gorilla, snow troll, or genie & lamp.  Then it hit me that these were extras unlocked for purchase, not items included, and I never went back and increased my order to include them.  Ach!  C'est la vie I suppose.

The plan now is to get four gangs together and sell my RPG and board game group on the idea.

I had been reading the posts here long before my shipment arrived, so I took special care when cutting the axe arm loose from the sprue. It sucks that it broke before you even started. Some people have been reporting that it broke in a ball-and-socket form, so they could put it back together.

Great idea! I might have to consider that.

Once you have them based, the staff should be reasonably well protected.

Yeah, I had the same reaction when I tried to order the Deal X minis 5 days after it was announced. You had to order them before the end of business on November 2nd. Ah well.

I've gotten a guy at work interested, and he got two or three of his buddies interested. Now I'm working on my fiancee, her kids and my daughter. I'm working on warbands for all of them. My daughter's warband is going to be themed around Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, my fiancee's daughter is getting a "Frozen" themed Warband. My fiancee's son is getting a Templar Knight themed warband (He likes knights). My fiancee will be getting a warband consisting of minis sculpted by Kev White (she loves his detail to anatomy). I also have a couple of friends whose interest I just sparked and I will probably get them a copy of the rule book since they have tons of minis already.

Between the Cultist box, Fireforge parts and the free sprue of soldiers I got with the NickStarter, I built 10 distinct Death Cultists and 15 "Bad Guy" Soldiers, including a Crow Master and an Apothecary. I am extremely happy with my NickStarter purchase and I can't wait to see what will be made available for the "Into the Breeding Pits" release.
