Title: New York Bop (Ghetto Miniatures)
Post by: flags_of_war on 10 February 2016, 10:40:02 AM
Thought i would post up some of the updates on the range and rules. As well as showing off my own terrain and figures im doing for the AAR's.

Any questions you know just to ask :)

I have started to show some previews of the NYB Baseball cards that will allow you to keep track of your gang members stats and weapons. Each of the characters in the game will have one of these but there will be a blank template available so that you can make your own cards for your own gangs.

This will also explain a little more about the pricing of the gang members. Warlords in the game don't cost as these will be the guys building the gang. Weapons all come in categories so no rules for each individual weapon. Each gang will also come with a number of traits and some of these will allow for a free weapon that this gang specialise in.

Here is some pictures of the board i have started building. Some more work to be done on the basketball court with more graffiti and some nets. I need to get something to use as a basketball hoops to scale  :?

The streets will have more dirty areas and road markings added to make it look like the Bronx in the 70's.
I will then get the loads of street furniture and buildings that i have to get some Ghetto action.

Great looking project. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the rules and setting and how the game will play.  :)

Incidentally, how big is the 'streets' board?

I made the fence from these mesh sheets off ebay.

I hope in the next few weeks to be giving more updates on the rules. Im just not sure what folk want to know about them.

The street board is 3' x 3'. All 1' tiles that will allow me to expand if needed.

A 3' x 3' board is perfect for a game.

Thanks Iain. So manageable skirmish size.  :)

As for things about the rules, off the top of my head;

How many figures in a crew?
Are there different scenarios in the rules?
Do you use your whole crew in each game?
Are there campaign rules?
The aim of the campaign?
How do the main rule mechanics work? Combat/actions/activations etc.
What makes this game unique?

That sort of thing.  :)

Ah, just thought of another one Iain.

Would it be possible to run a single vigilante type character (a certain Mr. Bickles springs to mind) within the campaign?

Hi Ray,

Ive tried to answer these as best as i could on my break in work ha.

How many figures in a crew?
This can as many as you want. For standard game I have said that a 8 man gang is enough. The games I have been playing have been 8 and this gives you more than enough for a good game. A campaign game will start off with 4 and then expand.

Are there different scenarios in the rules?

There will be 8 scenarios in the rules set and will be publishing more on the website as free downloads. They include battles which are full scale rumbles, one that you need to cause as much damage to a rivals HQ and a rescue mission for a kidnapped/arrested gang member.

Do you use your whole crew in each game?

Yes unless you don’t wish to do so.

Are there campaign rules?

There will be a full set of campaign rules that will have you fighting over a map of New York to gain turf. The more turf you have the more income you will collect to build your gang and equip them. There will also rules to expand your characters and also gain bonuses for going up against larger gangs to help you.

The aim of the campaign?
The aim of the campaign is to have a fun and to become the King of New York. The more territory and income you have the quicker this will happen.

How do the main rule mechanics work? Combat/actions/activations etc.
Main mechanics summarised are.
Roll for initiative
Activating your gang members in an “I go you go” sequence.
Combat is done by rolling the number d10 in your attack  value. Results equal to or higher than your rivals Funk(Defence) is a hit and then remove the total Blocks from the hits. Various weapons will help increase both the attack and block values. Robberies and vandalising are also actions.
Actions include some group actions that allow group movement and trash talking battles to gain extra dice in battles. You can do the standard runs, jumps, searching for ranged weapons, throwing, shooting etc.
We have some rules for police turning up during the end of turn phase dependent on what you have done in the previous round. This increases when casualties and robberies occur.

What makes this game unique?
For me the uniqueness is that NYA is a gang/small warband scale game that has very little focus on the guns. It will allow you to get a feel for gang culture and fighting. It’s you involved in a fighting style that’s about taking your opportunities when you see them and making sure you don’t turn your back on your rivals.

Would it be possible to run a single vigilante type character (a certain Mr. Bickles springs to mind) within the campaign?
I doubt this would work tbh. I think the main guy would get over powered quickly but then I have tested it for this. Id personally like to see rules like this but im not sure if it would work. Maybe if your vigilante was at Warlord level and the others at soldier or new blood level.

Cheers. It's a very small court but there is an outdoor court that is smaller than regulation on West Fourth Street. Famously known as The Cage.

Brilliant, thanks Iain.  :) I look forward to seeing some AAR's.

As for Mr. Bickles maybe a set of scenarios would be in order to balance the playing field. I suppose the fact he'd be packing a firearm would help in his advantage too.

It certainly would. Even a death wish scenario would be good. It's something that i can look at testing.

I found it hard to make cans look like cans at this scale. I guess i could increase the size just for the visual aspect. Got bricks and news papers that ill add. When the buildings are on trash bags and skips will be a plenty.

Also, how about some NYC Sewer mancovers :) I guess it's too late for rain gutters but these would invariably add to the crummy atmosphere  >:D
