I've moved from my medieval homelands to the hinterland that is my AWI collection.
This was started when the Foundry range was launched and I recently decided to focus new units on the southern theatre of 1779-82. So next planned items are Loyalists and some terrain pieces. I'll post progress here, although this maybe somewhat sporadic - there are medieval figures half-finished on the desk, which keep catching my eye!
First up are 10 figures for DeLancey's Loyalists, with 8 more in prep stage. These are first Perry AWI plastics I've done - very detailed mouldings which are challenging when you want to get units done swiftly.

Here are some retro pics of mounted troops - Perry metals - the last ones I did about 18 months ago now. Picture quality for these is a bit poor, so apologies for that.

Thanks for looking, Simon.
-
Lovely stuff Simon, DeLanceys lads look resplendent in the cream coloured hat and it looks great above the rich red of the uniform coat :-*
-
A very nice surprise, splendid stuff.
-
Really great work. I picked up the Rebellion book by Warlord for Black Powder, and have been drooling over the Perry minis.
The conundrum is that I don't do 28s, so all my terrain would be wrong, I would have to go all in! Darn you and your finely painted miniatures, sir! Darn you, I say!
-
Fine painting.
I need to get back to painting my AWI.
Sidetracked by WWII.
-
Lovely work Simon :-*
cheers
James
-
Spiffing. They look great.
I know exactly what you mean about detailed plastics - the bane of painting webbing, facings, and all those ruddy buttons!
So much easier and less fiddly with medievals 8)
-
Lovely painting. The basing is effective too.
-
Excellent work Simon! 8) 8) It's true all the extra detail adds to the time, but when finished gives a very rewarding looking unit!
Christopher
-
That's some great painting buddy! 8)
-
Fine work, sir. I quite like the hat of the Tory on the right - a small but effective touch that adds variety to the unit.
-
Just a quick update.
Delancy's officer and drummer all done. Lots of lace and buttons - phew!

Lovely 8) 8)

James

Yep those look ok.
-
Excellent stuff Simon!!! :) ;)

Lovely painting Simon :-*

Great brushwork. Those should provide you with hours of gaming pleasure. Thanks for sharing.

All done!
18 figures painted - I'll take some better pictures when they're based - maybe at weekend.
Thanks for the kind comments. Simon.

DeLancy's Loyalists done - just hope those delicate plastic bayonets hold up!

Next unit will be from South Carolinas - either SC Royalists or Continental Line.
I'm also tackling figures for campsite vignette, one by one - first chap discussing tactics (or the price of tea?).

Simon.
-
Wonderful Simon. Love the vignette figure. What a great little character. The officer and the drummer are also particularly splendid.
I know what you mean about the bayonets... Having built a few of the new Britosh colonial infantry, the bayonets do look ever so fragile... ::)
-
Lovely stuff Simon, I've got a box of these plastics somewhere up the man cave I'll have to keep this thread in mind when I eventually get to paint them.
-
A little progress to report...
The campsite vignette have now become three, with others prepared. Those are plastics for South Carolina Royalists lurking in the background.

Am also starting a long intended house build - based loosely on the Yorktown Customs House - a superb model of which John Boadle did some years ago. I'm luck to have some castings of windows and doors from John to use on my efforts. Components and progress to date shown here - am going at snail pace as have some trepidation with scratched buildings (as I've never done one before!!). A card shell with embossed brick paper walls and cornice from dolls house supplier...will show more pics as I go.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on this :)

Thanks James - any professional advice is welcomed (& probably needed)!!!
Simon
-
Amazing painting. Will keep an eye on this thread.
-
Great work :-* :-* :-*
Where are the seated figures from?
-
Just discovered this post,Loyalists look great, love the cream hats . :)
-
Gamer Mac - the campsite vignette is a Perry metals pack (AW 176) - comes with a camp fire, but I've lost the wooden tripod (so have prospect of making replacement).
Simon.
-
That's going to be a wonderful vignette :-*
-
Camp site vignette done - with replacement tripod over the fire.

Now onto tackling construction of the stone house.
Thanks for all the supportive comments!

Ooo, stunning :-* :-*

JUNE 16.
Progress with the Yorktown Customs House.
I'm approaching this first house build with some trepidation and learning as I go along (the hard way).
Stone sheets attached to the house frame as well as the roof. I glues the stone sheet on 3 sides and then discovered that its got a self adhesive backing, so one side fits much better! hey ho. The stones have some texture to them, which you cannot see in the photo.
Next I think will be to add shingles to the roof- doors and windows will be last to glue on.
(http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r146/chicks_photos/IMG_0241_zpsqwsjnfoc.jpg) (http://s143.photobucket.com/user/chicks_photos/media/IMG_0241_zpsqwsjnfoc.jpg.html)
-
Looking very promising.
-
That's coming along nicely :)
cheers
James
-
You, sir, have been well schooled in vignettiquette. Well done.
-
astonishing work :o
-
More progress on the brick house, following holiday hiatus.
Roof tiles added (Wild West Models shingles) which I'm very pleased with and recommend.
Walling and porch constructed - hoping I have enough brick paper left to cover the walls! Gates are laser cuts from Warbases.
(http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r146/chicks_photos/IMG_1655_zps4dzgr9pd.jpg) (http://s143.photobucket.com/user/chicks_photos/media/IMG_1655_zps4dzgr9pd.jpg.html)

I've also done some corn fields (slavishly copying JimBibbly's excellent approach) and church also in progress - will post more as I go.
Simon.
-
Excellent Simon!! :) ;)
-
I'm liking where this is going 8) 8)
cheers
James
-
That is going to be a damned handsome property! 8)
-
nil progress on the house.
However, adjoining corn fields done - all slavishly copied from James/Jimbibbly's - plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery James!! ;)
Matchsticks for snake rail fencing (individually painted - ugh) and cornstalks from JTT, collected over a few years and trimmed to varying heights before being planted.
Simon.

-
Well, I think I'll have to return the favour and do two 'halves'. Great idea 8) 8)
The way the match sticks were painted on ours was to get an old cardboard box, brown spray of choice (Humbrol Dark Brown 29), matchsticks in the box and then spray and shake vigorously until they are all coated. Doesn't have to be an even coat either which adds to the effect :)
cheers
James
-
The DeLancy's look fantastic!!! The roof on the house looks wonderful too!
-
Wonderfully painted models and great scenery!
-
Nil progress on the house...
..but have completed the church!
This is Renedra plastic colonial church, plus their fencing and gravestones - with more shingles from Wild West Models added and tree made by John Boadle.
Once again I've used a previous model for reference, this one being one by Admiral Benbow on this forum.

More anon, Simon.

Lovely work :-* :-*
I thought I recognised the tree :)
cheers
James
-
Lovely :-*
-
Nicely done. I picked up one of these at Salute and was looking for inspiration as to how to base and paint it. ;D
-
Beautiful buildings ,really fit the period, great job.

Did you? Are you?
Kept that quiet lol

James
-
Beautiful piece. The browns are a nice alternative to the common rendition of it.
-
Bit more progress on the AWI brick house.
Doors and windows now attached, as well as the porch - which needs shingles adding.
The walled garden has brick paper added and just needs landscaping with grass and plants etc.
The garden base and the house will remain as separate pieces, to provide maximum options re gaming.

Final shots along quite soon I hope.
thanks for all the kind words - I'm not an expert terrain builder and have learnt a lot from tackling this.
Simon.
-
Well for a non terrain expert, that's rather outstanding Simon :)
-
Splendid :-* :-*
I'll take mine back then lol
cheers
James
-
Very nice indeed.
I think I would just have made the outer wall a bit lower to be at "musket rest" height :)
-
Hmm, good point on the walls - I've really based it on the high garden wall that at the Yorktown Customs House.
Whilst I await new order of shingles from USA, here's handful of rebel riflemen (all Perry metals) which were in the metal mountain.

They look lovely.
Positively Burgundian colours ;)
-
Shingles from Old West Models have arrived, so the AWI house is complete!
Thanks for all the views and comments

-
Great stuff Simon, you need to do some photos of it on the table now :)
-
I'd like to live there ;)
Lovely.
-
What lovely shingles you have there Simon lol
Good effort, do the gates open too?
-
Very cool. And that applies to the figures and the building. ;D
-
Very nice, everything looks great. Did you go for the S or O gauge shingles?
-
Many thanks for all the kind words.
Stuart - gates are fixed I'm afraid (laser cut wood from Warbases)
Fantail - they're S gauge shingles (seem a good enough fit).
Cheers, Simon.
-
Perry Mounted Militia.
Onepiece castings and bit tricky to paint to be honest and horses are a tad mis-shapen; useful troops for campaigns in southern states and thankfully not many needed.

Absolutely amazing painting :)
-
Stunning work :-*
-
Is that a dog we see behind one of those horsemen? Or, did someone just drop a looted cooked turkey? lol
-
Looks like one of Simon's dogs to me.
Great job on these as usual :)
-
Wonderful :)
-
More reinforcements for the 'rebels' - 2nd Maryland, who saw action in several engagements in the AWI.
Perry metals - mix of uniforms and hunting coats.
Just one more AWI piece on the painting table at the moment.
Simon.

Fantastic work as usual Simon!!! :) ;)
-
Just lovely :-*
-
Cracking work, Simon :)
-
More loveliness Simon :-*
-
Wonderful work! :)
-
More off the AWI lead pile - British additions to existing units I have for southern battles and a Continental officer (plastic) in prep for a small command vignette.
(I have now added highlights to the face which I'd missed before basing these chaps!).
thanks for all the views & comments.

Great collection of work Simon, well done to you!!!!!!!! I still don't understand how people can't paint with a black basecoat (my eyes aren't that good, so I prefer white or grey depending on uniform) but your end result as well as your tremendous output of well painted figs is just inspiring. One day when I retire....probably be blind by then! :'( Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!
