Title: Now with female adventurers and kobold ... by Westfalia Miniatures
Post by: Cubs on 19 July 2016, 02:43:30 PM
Here's a couple of Guards by Westfalia which aren't available yet for release, but will be part of a game they're planning to release next year. Such fantastic sculpts.

wow, brilliantly done - great balance of subdued tones and just enough colour.
Great sculpts by Michael Anderson.

Wonderful painting, wonderful sculpts. I've no idea what the board game is, but I'll but it if the minis are all like this.

For some reason, these two remind me of the comic relief pair of pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Brilliant minis and painting; a shame it is so hard to work out what is going on with Westfalia (I probably need to be on FaceBook I guess!)

my first thought was the Ankh Morpork city watch

Ditto, Sgt Colon and Nobby. Unfortunately I didn't know they were both guards when I painted them, hence the lack of matching uniforms!

Lovely paint job on characterful figures, but the billman must have quite a neck under that turned down hood.

I saw these on facebook the other day. They're absolutely lovely both in terms of sculpt and painting. Some of the best figures I've seen for a good while.

Lovely paint jobs! I am intrigued by the game. A thieves guilds vs guards of some sort of game would be kind of cool. Not that I know what the game is about. But its what popped into my head!

The working title is 'The Shadows', and we just shelved the 0.1 version as we need to rethink a lot of stuff. I think it'll be ready early/mid next year.  :)

I can also confirm that these are the sort of models that just beg to be painted and the sculptor seems to have created them simply for this purpose. They have simple, clean lines and great proportions. I suspect they would be as satisfying to cram with intricate detail as they would be to do a simple bit of block colour and a wash. The deep contours will see to that. A real joy to massage with the brush.

Sounds intriguing! I wish you luck with it and certainly shall look forward to seeing what miniatures are in it.

We're toying with a system of interchangeable parts - the arms are made with guards in mind, the heads with the coif are pretty generic.

Interchangeable for extra variety and conversion potential sounds great.

Will these be resin or metal figures when released?

Not sure - Resin is more expensive after all.

That'd be my preference too. I think it's an age related thing.

That plus I don't think resin will stand the test of time....I believe it will degrade over the years and put lead rot to shame  :(

I've heard something similar but couldn't get to the root of it. I honestly believe that this is a myth as I haven't seen anything close to lead rot with resin.

Another vote here for metal.

I much prefer metal. I really really must want a miniature if it only comes in resin.

Here's a few more additions to Westfalia's fantasy range.

First off, an old school type kobold (with alarming willy).

Next is a very nice female fighter sheltering under her shield.

And last but definitely not least, a superbly posed female thief. Casting in resin does have its advantages!

Good figures, good painting. I really should have done the ks...

And a vote for resin. Which is fine as long as you don't leave it near anything hot.

Yeah, if I'm honest I prefer metal 90% of the time, but sometimes you do get a lovely sculpt that just needs to be resin. The crisp simple details on these guys make them a pleasure to paint.
