Can't wait...

Oooooh gorgeous.
Loving that flamethrower.
Quality pics - good stuff. :)
-
As always truly stunning :o :o :o
The flamethrower pic is fantastic. I would say that it was worth the wait to get these pictures of this campaign but I do not want to inhibit you from posting more.
So...can we have some more Sir?
-
Excellent!
Is Ignatieff raising his standards??? How it can possibly be done?
Yes the flamethrower picture is really good. I also like the HMG (what make?)
Ignatieff you spoil us!
Where are the rest pics?????
The Turkmenis you promised, the caviar loads etc etc
Just a question: I see a French flag. Under it some Aussies-like figures and a yellow truck with German inscription. What is it?" The United Nations of the time??
-
Kind words all, but the genius is in the photo work for which I can take no credit.
Argsilverson as always, eagle-eyed and perceptive! Our French player couldnt make it, so we were sans plombe Francais. It was therefore a case of 'adapt, improvise and overcome'. The officer (Draylon) is an HLBS Austrian (in a kepi of sorts) and the troops Italian Alpini. The lorry was obviously 'liberated' at some point along the way.
Draylon led a truely heroic defence of Camp Josephine after Enver Pasha had trecherously broken an agreed truce. In the end the perfidious Adrianstani dictator had to commit over 50 figures to wipe out the 11 French defending the compound, who took over 30 Adrianstani's down with them. Three French out of the 11 escaped, but sadly not Draylon, who, seriously wounded, was spirited away by Enver Pasha to unknown horrors. Count Smirnoff, the French CinC, has vowed revenge!
More later...............

Excuse me, still picking up bits of my jaw from the ground :P Looks great! Some ver nice photography too. Is this table a collaborated effort or did you make most of it on your own?
-
I Love the first picture , where are those from are they Mongols from copplestone and is that russian a foundry ?
lovely stuff though

Very nice pictures, miniatures and scenery :-* :-* :-*
-
Count Smirnoff, the French CinC, has vowed revenge!
Now it is time to use the Copplestone's Caucasian Cossack cavalry in French service.
Actually they had some units deplyed in the nearby area (in fact it was Syria and I think that they call them Circassian cavalry, officered by french, of course!) Initially they were horse mounted, later they receive some armour.
Usually they wore a khaki dress (french colour). the area with those cartridges was black and the cartridges were silver edged. Green arms colour and carried a small greem fanion.
I had some drawing in my earlier computer, but I cannot locate it now neither the link. If you are interested, I would try to re-find it and PM you.
p.s. HMG is Great War Miniatures
Thanks, actually the question was for the HMG and the models. Is that a Maxim HMG? OK I can find it from GWM!
-
Aah the officers wore the french kepi (in light blue)
-
This is inspiring stuff :o More please!
A good mix of beautiful miniatures and terrain there!
-
To gainsay the esteemed Ignatieff is the last thing I desire, yet I feel I must point out that the HMG in question (if indeed it be the one on the roof in the picture with the flame-thrower that we are talking about) is actually produced by Renegade Miniatures. The GWM one has the crew kneeling, whereas these are lying down.
Argsilverson, it is the Maschinengewehr 08, the standard German HMG of the Great War. Everyone calls them Maxim guns because they were a very near copy of the British Maxim, but they weren't actually made by Maxim/Vickers and the rotters never paid any royalties on them, neither.
-
I bow down to you sir.The most Awsome gaming pics.

Sweet!
I Love the HMS Bulldog. How about more pics of your ship?

You have some really nice terrain and figures. Some of the extras like the smoke and flames in the windows really look great...very nice touches. The table looks like a lot of fun and the game does as well. Thanks for sharing!!

The U89 surfaces for a kill
-
For the record - our use of the flamethrower was as the result of the murder of two of our brave stormtroopers whilst attempting to remove the occupants from harms way.
After their deaths we withdrew and requested the occupants to vacate the building, this request was met from within with a withering burst of fire causing a further casualty.
We were left with no alternative but to clear the building by force. (It was quite a successful trial for this new piece of kit and I am sure many more opportunities will present for its deployment in the future.)
A subsequent investigation has cleared all those involved of any unlawful actions.

Too too much :o :-*
The ship and the city are particularly magnificent...
Are some of the larger civic buildings of Krasnovodsk from the Colonial Steamboat chap? Or from the other guy on eBay that always seems to have these handbuilt mid-eastern adobe fort / palace / mosque complexes on the go?
They have that look, although actually look rather better in close-up than on eBay.
(Or perhaps this is because I've got it entirely wrong, and these are lovely pieces of homemade scenery constructed by your own group of chums... )
-
Buildings in the town are mostly off e-bay, with some of the smaller ones scratch built for us by Gary Chalk. Walls and gate are commercially available (or at least were about six years ago) originally from Ian Weekly. Thanks again for all the kind comments. We do try and have fun, and I do believe in cinematic terrain, so it does seem to work.
-
Thanks for sharing the pics with us.
The table, miniatures and vehicles look very nice.
I always enjoy your pics.
Thanks
Björn
-
Again: Superb!
[what more can we add?]
The U89 [btw is it schratchbuilt?] is the submarine that you have written: don't ask how she managed to be there? or found an explanation for the way she managed to be transported there.
-
Absolutely stunning stuff. The terrain and buildings are superb and the figure painting is equally impressive.
;D
Wonderful! :-*
-
Sub is scratch built by Von Stauffenberg. The British navy actually transported a number of subs to the Caspian on railways through Persia, so there is some rough(ish) precedent at work here. A better quesion would be how they managed to transport an early Dreadnaught!
-
A better quesion would be how they managed to transport an early Dreadnaught!
Thanks!
very simple:
they actually did it by transporting Mimi & Toutou from England to lake Tanganyika, via Capetown/South Africa.
The task was difficult. They send several prefabricated parts via steam vessel from Plymouth (I think) to Capetown. Then via rail to the borders of Rhodesia and then several hundreds of km via manpower and oxenpower, the parts of the two vessels reached lake Tanganyika. Assembled in situ and entered service [which proved a succesful one].
The vessels, ofcourse, were smaller but the distance was far further. Concider also more difficulties like: lack of roads, lack of enough numbers of animals and men, malaria, tse-tse flies, animals plagues etc etc etc.
Even Stanley managed to transport a similar small vessel to be used at his explorations!
Jules verne also wrote something about it.
So, back to our topic:
Since the british were capapble to do it in the middle of a world war, have the knowledge to achieve such a task at a larger scale in a time, which was not so turbulent like middle of WW1! [if I remember well your adventures are dated aroun 1926].
Thus, HMS Bulldog was fabricated in smaller parts. Transported to the Black Sea ports by sea. Then loaded on the rail to Tbilsi (?). Sorry to Baku!
Re-assembled at the coasts of Caspian sea and voila , you have it.
Alternative ways of transportation are also existed. They could use the Persian territory and rail system to transport it and finally reassembled could be done at the secret british base on persian coast of the caspian sea!
Remember that British empire had more facilities (incl. heavy industrial ones) in the territories south of caspian Sea!
here is a map of the Caspian Sea:
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/commonwealth/caucasus_cntrl_asia_pol_00.jpg
Submarines are more difficult, since they need more care in their assembly and more tests in order to ensure water tightness!
Dear Ignatieff,
Its is only a small discussion, trying to add details to some very lovely stories and excellent eyecandy games you are producing!
Do you have some more photos and technical details on the scratchbuilding of the submarine??? I always wantesd to make one to enrich my Hochseeflotte
-
I found a better and easier way to "transport" HMS Bulldog to the Caspian Sea:
HMS Bulldog was a special vessel. Built to sail in both deep sea and and rivers:
So, sailed to the Black Sea, then entered Sea of Azov, sailed the Don river, and entered Volga River.
No difficulty to be present in Caspian Sea !
[Let's assume that the Don-Volga channel was built in time.
I think it was constructed at a later stage, during Stalin time. I'm not sure]

Splendid Argsilverson, splendid! Thanks for the links. I'll ask Stauffenberg to provide construction details (he also built the trampsteamer (SS Grizelda) in the pics). You couldnt point me in the direction of a map of the Hindu Kush and High Pamirs by any chance? I suspect that is where next The League will coagulate!
-
the map I found is from:
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/asia.html
where there is a lot more maps, maybe you can find what you need.
Also: try Google search and you may find better geophysical maps.
At some earlier stage of my interests in the BoB regions I had found some interesting maps. I will take some time to search and if I have good results I will in the LAF.
In the meantime:
Pleaase more of your extremely nice pictures and stories!
Remember, still I have not seen those caviar supplies, that were illegally exported and reached Paris, so the formation of the world famous delicatessen firm "Havarnoussian" was possible!

Mayhem in downtown Krasnovodsk. The Brits hold the Central bank, Cornelius Brandt (a.k.a Richard Hannay)stands strident, the Whites rush the bridge, and various locals cause chaos in the streets....

Ignatieff,
A vote of thanks for another great run of inspirational photos and commentary. I really look forward to these game reports and seeing examples of what we all aspire to in table top gaming! Also, thanks for sending me copies of "The Pink" during my latest sickness. I'm convinced that it helped me to get better.

Can't wait to see them!
[will you transport any of your vessels there ,too? I find it impossible!]

I am struggling, it has to be said, to find a rationale for deploying the Potemkin lol
-
I am struggling, it has to be said, to find a rationale for deploying the Potemkin lol
There is no rivers deep and easy enough to sail!
the only significant lake is "Karakul" and I do not find it of strategic importance.
So, the only way if you really need a vessel, transport it in prefabricated parts and built it inside the lake [I suspect that the Karakul city has some facilities].
I saw also an airport, surprise, by Kashgar
I am afraid that it will be beeter to use your airpowerr!
-
Oh and you will need lots of yaks and bactrian camels to transport them!
-
Presumable the air at those altitudes preclude much flying either, unless the planes are modified?
-
and thebreath of the figures!\
-
That's why those with specialist mountain troops will be advantaged! By the way, any suggestions of 'high priest' type figures. The originals I have in mind were the holy men in 'The Man who Would be King' (which I will be watching this afternoon on a 12 hour flight to LA)...

You just have to put the url of your pic between 2 [imag] tags as :

for exemple, with your pic :

This is stunning! Ignatieff, you've certainly given me reason to start on my BoB lead pile! I particularly like the ships, although I doubt I could even fit one on my current gaming table.
