Overland The (Tabletop) Game
« on: 03 December 2016, 11:38:40 PM »
Hullo All,

Must apologise because this is the absolute kernel of an idea, only thought about it this morning but it's really tickled my fancy. So:

I've been playing the early access game Overland (http://overland-game.com/) occasionally, and really it seems perfect for a tabletop port, maybe with some more RPG elements. For those who haven't seen it, it's a turn-based 'puzzle' game, set in an alien invasion/post apocalypse type world. Looks like this:

(Loads more great screenshots here: http://games.gamepressure.com/view_screen.asp?ID=309174)

They way I might approach this is thus:

15mm scale (though 28mm is tempting so I can use the excellent Scavenge Skirmish Survive minis).
30cm board
A good car (station wagon probs)
Make a 'strip' of road to add across.
HO terrain.

From there, I can slowly build terrain as it suits so small RPG-esque encounters, like the game maps. So if I want to game them discovering and searching a barn, all I need to make is a barn, quick and easy.

Anyone got any ideas for minis? I know there's quite a few zombie survivors minis, but any other thoughts?

If I was to do 28mm, a 30cm square board is too small innit? I'll homebrew the rules for solo gaming I think.

Cheers

Seems like a good idea to me. Pretty much the same as the winter post apoc setting only now with Aliens.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

It looks very interesting.  And plenty of great ideas for a gaming board.

Hullo all,

Just resurrecting this thread a little - I've been taking an interest in Mantic's Walking Dead recently, and it also dawned on me that with a little work I could probably use the rules for this game idea too.

I'd want a mechanic for an option if leaving the car running (i.e. You pull up and choose - leave it running to draw attention, but risk not being able to get back in because it's surrounded) and a few other bit, but I bet I could bodge those.

I've bought the Woodbury solo set, just to try out the mechanics and see where I get to.

The question now is what Minis range to use - such a small game seems a good excuse to use 28mm as opposed to my usual 15mm. I'd like to find quite 'pathetic' survivors (I really like the Carol booster for example). There's nothing like that in 15 is there?
