Black Hat Gladiators - need some inspiration

OK so I go a literal sack of these guys

From a Bring and Buy for cheap and thought they were ok ish. But now a couple of crusader figures have arrived which seem to be much nicer in comparison.

The photos on the store aren't really doing them any favours and I've found very few pictures on Google.

Has anyone painted the Black Hat gladiators to a decent standard? I need some inspiration!
