Battle of Valmaseda 1808, Black Powder, 28mm .
« on: 31 July 2017, 02:31:52 PM »
Friday 21st at New Buckenham Historical Wargamers saw the club's ever growing number of Spanish Napoleonic figures take to the field with a game based on the Battle of Valmaseda in 1808. Black Powder was the ruleset used.

The Battle of Valmaseda took place on 5 November 1808, during Lieutenant-General Blake's retreat from superior French armies in Cantabria. Reinforced by veteran regular infantry from General La Romana's Division of the North, Blake suddenly turned on his pursuers to rescue a trapped detachment and defeated a division of General Victor's army at Valmaseda.

There follows some pictures with more information on my blog at Jabba's wargamimg

Villatte's division closes on their prey, the Spanish Asturian Division.

The Spanish divisions advance to try and trap Villatte's division.

The Spanish rearguard, in the centre, fall back on their rescuers / support.

Tony.

Nice to see a Spanish victory other than Bailen.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss
