Ben Franklin's War at Historicon
« on: 24 July 2017, 02:53:03 PM »
I've posted a short report on the Weird War American Revolution game we ran at Historicon - Ben Franklin's War, based very loosely on the Siege of Yorktown.

There are also some pictures of other games.

This game looks like a hoot.  What rules set did you use?

I used Howard Whitehouse's Astounding Tales with a supplement for bigger battles I wrote for it, called All Gods Children Got Guns.  This appears in the Astounding Adventures #3.  Both are available in pdf form on Wargamesvault.com.  http://www.wargamevault.com/browse/pub/4762/Pulp-Action-Library

I added some additional modifications for black powder weapons, etc.

Love games like this. Remember back in the day when G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. first came out. Get to see the imagination let loose on a convention demo game. Wish I could have been able to play.

Why not?
Not questioning the robot in the background?
It's a "weird war" type game. Get to use strange and unusual things in such games.

The robot I can "understand" (I'm sure Dr. Franklin electrified him with his kite string and key).

I feel foolish - of course the French are mounted aboard a GIANT SNAIL.

Yes, the snail was something of a joke, Le Char d'Escargot for the French.  But one of the concepts behind the game is that each force had a different basis for their advanced technology.  The British had steam power, the Americans use electric power and harmonics, and the French have a chemistry-based technology thanks to Antoine Lavoisier.  The giant snail is a product of chemically-induced genetic modification.

Great idea and a fine looking game using Howard's rules.

Wish you'd let us know about it at the WI magazine, could have tasked 'Our Man At Historicon' to come by and take copious photographs, then sought an article from your good selves.
Remember: the dice are not your friends!
