Source for small scale propellers?
« on: 18 October 2017, 01:55:35 PM »
Hey all,

Does anyone know anywhere I can buy some small scale propellers? 1/285th or 1/300th scale, or there abouts. I'm not too fussy. Anything 5mm - 10mm in diameter would probably do. I'm working on a small scale VSF airship.

I know GHQ and CinC do tiny propellers for their aircraft, but I imagine they'd be prohibitively expensive to order separately. (That is, unless any of you fine fellows on here happen to have a bunch of spares just sitting about in your bits box?)

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Mr.Marx

I've seen people use a hole puncher and clear plastic sheet. Ends up looking like the prop rotating.

There are various commerative aircraft in odd scales - eg Wonderland Models Spitfire that you could use for parts.

There's a Lancaster going cheap on amazon at the moment - link. I have the model in front of me, and each propeller blade is about 8mm long - not sure what that means in diameter terms.

I did wonder about old Wings of War models, but they're pretty expensive as well

I would ask on the Wings of War / Glory Areodrome website - the bombers are about 1cm tip to tip but they may know of a 3D printer would could help scale down some for you.

Fairly easy to make with plastic stripping.

Just select the width and thickness desired, cut to size, and then sand the tips/sides a little to shape.
