Slann in Small Scale
« on: 26 January 2014, 09:49:56 PM »
Hi!

I've been working on a bit of a side project to collect and paint up an Oldhammer force using only either readily available or very cheap figures and settled on a 15mm scale Slann warband.

A Quick peruse of the interwebs found the East Ridings Frog Folk and I received a small parcel a few days later containing some handy Slann substitutes.

A little conversion work, mainly to add loincloths and headdresses and heres the first unit:

Hopefully I will be able to flesh out the force in the coming weeks but I must admit I am quite pleased with the results, especially as my whole force cost less than a single old school Slann in 28mm if I was to buy it on ebay!

More info can be found over on my blog:http://talesfromfarpoint.blogspot.co.uk/

All the best!

Hi!

I do plan on converting some Eagle, Jaguar and Alligator warriors at some point, not to mention a couple of priests and so on!

All the best!

Those Slann really turned out nicely. I especially like the effect you achieved on the eyes. They appear wet and "froggy" if you know what I mean :).

Did you consider alterating the colour in your regiments, so have some green, some blue, some red Slann? I could also see some cool markings like spots or stripes, but I am not sure if this suits the fluff.

Overall a very nice paintjob in this small scale. Do I understand right that the idea of Oldhammer is to use any older sculpts to depict Warhammer armies and play using older Warhammer editions?

Have you based them on 20mm bases? Just trying to get an idea of scale.

Hi!

Thanks for the comments folks!

I do have plans for some more tribes with different colour schemes as well as some very colourful poison dart frog types too.

The idea behind Oldhammer is to get away from the tournament type of competitive play and powergaming that seems to have taken hold with some of the newer editions of Warhammer. Instead its all about enjoying a scenario driven game, usually with one of the older editions of the rules.

These older rules have a lot more flavour than the somewhat dull new edition and don't require huge regiments either.

Some folks collect armies of 80's era Citadel and Marauder era figures but my project started with a suggestion I saw over on the Lead Pile Blog: http://theleadpile.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/how-do-you-start-oldhammer.html.

In essence Oldhammer is about collecting a fun and characterful force using whatever you like and not relying on a set armylist and just enjoying the hobby!

All the best!

Those are great! I can even imagine them being in a 28mm game.

Who says frogfolk have to be man-sized? :D
