WG new plastic Pz38t

Has anyone any actual evidence of this oft stated rumour? It may well be true, I simply don't know. I think all of the plastic WG kits I have bought have been Italeri. Having built a couple of PSC's kits which are simple and intuitive, I would have thought them an unlikely source.

The ones that spring to mind are the Universal Carrier, the 251D and the Sherman V/VC I will scan/photograph relevant parts of the instructions.

PSC have removed the instructions from their web site (I obtained the Panzer 38t/Marder III from another source -which I think is on a Rubicon thread), but I will see if I can find it.

As fine as these PSC kits are for 15mm, the UC and SdKfz imho show very well why upscaling does almost never yield suitable results.

I have to admit that I think the carrier and the 251s are okay for gaming models, especially as you need a lot of them.

It is the Sherman V that shows the problem, especially as the Italeri/Warlord Sherman I is so much better, just look at the mantlets.




On the other hand, the Italeri/Warlord Puma has those wheels...

Italeri has something of a reputation amongst scale modelling circles as the makers of some of the worst quality kits on the market.

Italeri make reasonable kits that are just poorly engineered. Sod all thought seems to go into sensible construction. The WG ones follow the same path and compare poorly with Rubicon vis a vis construction. Too many fiddly parts for no real gain in accuracy. Oddly enough, they actually popularised the 'fast assembly' kit in 1/72,

So given the PSC model has one piece running gear nd track assembly are we saying that this will too?

If it is as I suspect, then yes.

Has anyone got the Marder yet? That would be the clincher.

 That the tracks/running gear may be one piece (a la PSC offerings) doesn't have to be bad thing, having blown the pic up as much as possible they still look pretty good - plate detail, the two distinct sets of guide teeth are present & the wheels look ok. One piece tracks would however be slightly more inconvienient for converting to any of the slightly stretched chassis vehicles that followed - but Rubicon's PzJgr 38 might be a better base for those anyway.

Frankly, I'd welcome it. The Italeri/WG multi part tracks aren't that well designed. There appears to be more than adequate detail on the track assemblies in the photos.
