Skellymens
« on: 06 December 2017, 04:46:00 AM »
Hi all!

After baby CB bought me a box of skellies for Father's Day earlier in the year I needed to paint them.

Perfect for dungeon crawling in the old Diablo 1 style, most of them are the GW multipart plastics, with 3 Wargames Factory archers thrown in (Diablo demands missile skellymens to harass any would-be-adventurer). personally the WGF and GW mix perfectly well, the GW are nice and easy to put together with mould lines being hidden in cloaks/armour lines for the most part, the WGF was another kettle of fish. I am not letting any hamfisted players near those guys. With joins so small superglue would have been better than plastic cement, the joins are rather brittle and I'm sure they will fall apart over time. The upside was they are very flexible for creating different poses if you have the patience. I do like their simplified skeleton look though which is versatile for many campaign settings.

Cheers
Matt

The blue came up fantastically on these guys. Glad to see you made a little time.

Nice skellywags.  I like the rusted look on the armour.

Yeah thanks Pete, I'm glad I made the time too, pretty simple figures so that helped to speed up the process and not be too daunting. Yeah the blue, orange/rust, and white goes well. Should go with my bretonnians too if I need undead warriors to join my fold ;)

Nice skellywags.  I like the rusted look on the armour.

Yes they are skellywags, waving their gigantic swords around like it's a street party. Albeit a well armed street party. Possibly more like a riot now I think about it.

Thanks, not sure if there is too much oxidisation orange, ... I think it's ok. It's hard to get just right without looking silly.

Cheers
Matt

Very nice - the rusted weapons and the blue contrast nicely.

Thanks James and Vanvlak

She's certainly spotted "Daddy's Toys" and likes having a look, and wanting to touch. A few years and hopefully we can get our goblins on. Better start gaming with her toys and dice first ;)

And yes mate, you need to buy a whole fleet for your little one, not yourself of course ;) ;)

Marcus, it can be really difficult when you have a vision in your head and finding a mini that suits it, there are so many skeletons out there but they are all vastly different in asthetics which makes it hard. Ontop of that there is the issue of availability and $$. I liked the old HW metal skellys too but too difficult to get a hold of. Ive had a massive issue trying to find beastmen that match the Diablo look, that don't cost an arm and a leg, and aren't overthetop muscle suits with gigantic weapons and armour. I hope the warlords come out soon so you can get your jam on.

Cheers

Lovely work, Bertie!
That rust looks great and your colour palette really does bring out the best in them.
 :-* :-*

And good to see you back at it.
It has been a while.....

Thank you Sir!

Oh ta, I hoped keeping it simple would work well and help me to finish them. Perhaps a win on both fronts.

And good to see you back at it.

More than a while mate, hahaha, a long while.

hahahahaha, The living impaired are just dying to let me paint them. Their body parts are littered across the parts boxes ;) Thanks mate, that's a real compliment from a ghoul and goblin master such as yourself.

Cheers
