Harelquins Vs Orks - AAR
« on: 31 January 2018, 05:00:35 PM »
The Girl has been hounding me to play 40K for the last few weeks and I finally set up a game for her and her brother on Monday. The Girl played her Harelquins (with her fancy new Troupe Master, Shadowseer and Death Jester!) and The boy played his Orks. They played the Sabotage narrative scenario from the 8th Edition Core Rulebook.

There is a full report of the battle (including loads more pictures):

Here are a few pics of the action...

The boy all set up with with his cache of archeotech in the middle of the tables and 10 Ork Sentires grading it.

Harlequins dance onto the table and try to take out some sentries all quiet-like.

The alarm is raised - Ork boyz surge onto the table

WAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGH!!!!

More Orks arrive and a brief firefight ensues.

But orks are kind of crap at firefights, so they just charge in and make a bloody mess of it!

In the end it kind of comes down the Warboss Blitzagg and three of the Harlequins...

Do the Harlequins get enough bones loaded up on the archeotech cache to blow it up and deny it's potentially deadly use to the Orks? Who makes it out of that final confrontation... find out on the blog:

Cool.  Thanks for posting that. How long did the game last?

Thanks!

Well... we attracted in the mid-late afternoon, but then had to take a break for supper and the kids went out to swimming lessons and we finished it up when they got home... Maybe a little over two hours...? Not more than three...?

It probably took little longer than needed as new units were being played with and we had to keep looking things up to remind ourselves how they worked. Also my kids love to narratively describe every move or dice roll as they go along (they're probably more "role-players" than "miniature games"...), but they have FUN doing that, so who am I to tell them to stop so we can get a game done quicker?

(I also take a lot of pictures and notes so I can write AARs, so...)

We also prefer to play small skirmishes on 120x120 or 90x90 tables.
Now we are trying to play with the "Grimdark Future: Fire Fight" rules.
My group is enthusiastic about its speed and simplicity like Song of blade and heros.
Perhaps in the future we will also try the other Grimdark Future rules.
Do you use wh40k 8th? How's it for the little skirmishes?

I also prefer Song of Blades and Heroes for small games and Stuff like Dragon Rampant/Lion Rampant, etc for slightly larger games.

We are using 40K 8th - it seems to handle games of this size (and bigger) rather well. I think better than SOBH could have - simply due to the numbers involved.

We started playing it because that's what friends of ours were playing. My kids were SHOCKED by it. They hag started out with Savage Worlds and then we moved on to Song of Blades and Heroes. So when they were confronted by a game where you moved ALL of your troops, and then shot with ALL of your troops, AND THEN could charge and fight in melee with ALL of your miniatures... it seemed totally CrAzY to them.
