Battleground Weird War II
« on: 01 July 2009, 01:48:25 AM »
I can't seem to find the link to the  battleground weird war II rules.  There are year old links on this site (and others) but none bring me to the rules.

Are they no longer available?

Thanks for any help

This is just the link to buy Battlegrounds. Is that a prerequisite to access the Weird War variant?

Of course I could be missing something fairly obvious  ;D

It certainly is. The main rules are in Battlegrounds

Sorry, not trying to scam anything.  :)

I thought that the weird war stuff was free.

How would I prove that I acquired the BGWWII rules?

The Weird WWII mods are free to members here (http://whattheminiatures.com/forum/index.php) but you will need to purchase the core BGWWII rules to know what I'm talking about.

Brian -

I wonder if you could enlighten us as to the current status of the BGWW2 rules? I've had them for years, played them quite a lot, too, but I know they've been throw several changes of ownership/status in publication/etc. Last I'd heard officially they were working on the Vietnam rules (ok, I may have even seen a copy of the rules at one point, but nobody can prove anything), but that was the last I heard, and there haven't been any new supplements in quite a while.

If this is a sensitive subject, I apologize. Just curious, really.

Well I let you know what I know,

Brad and Devin are still the IP owners of the rules and miniatures line but they are not producing any new product.  They were in the process of finishing up BG: Vietnam but numerous things happened and they abandoned the project as well as producing new products.  The minis and rules are still sold officially buy Syr Hobbs, Neo-Forge and Pacific Sky Games but no new products are being produced as far as I know.  They did release a Weird War supplement last year but it was a convention set of rules that was just released as an official set but no new material per say.

Now this is unofficial as Brad and Devin do not actively plug their system or do much talking of any kind on public forums and I don't know the men personally although I have tried numerous time to contact them so take it all with a gran of salt.

I hope that sheds a little light because there isn't much info on the why but hopefully the guys will step back into the game and continue to expand it.  It is still common to see games of BGWWII being played at cons by its fans and I get e-mails weekly asking me where to pick up the rules and minis.  I think a re-release would prove very successful especially if they get it to Europe's gaming community.

Thanks for the heads up. If they have abandoned it, it's unfortunate that they don't seem interested in selling it, or allowing someone else to promote it. It had problems here and there, but overall was a decent set of rules.
