Old Glory Indian Elephants?
« on: 20 July 2020, 10:35:11 PM »
Just curious how well these guys size up to other ranges. I'm planning on getting some Aventine elephants eventually as well, so... would these even look like the same species? Or are they roughly comparable?
"Nice try, history; better luck next year."

Take a look here :

Oh yes, I'm quite well-acquainted with Jeff's website  :D Great stuff! I guess I was looking specifically for the Old Glory and Aventine side-by-side just to see how they compare. He's got beautiful images of both ranges, but not next to each other, as far as I can tell  :) In the end I guess it doesn't matter a ton, as there will be variation in size between different units in my army, anyway. I was just trying to do a final "idiot check" to verify that the Old Glory aren't the size of, say, wild boars to Aventine's oliphants, or whatever  lol

I too was wondering until I can across Bucellarii’s blog where he has this picture. Old glory is on the left, Aventine on the right.
Hope that helps.

Ah! That's pretty much exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

I think I'll go ahead and grab the Old Glory elephants. It's from a local-ish shop, there are two of them in a pack (with all the crews), and the pack is like $20, so it seems like a steal.

One thing for sure is elephants don't need to be the same size, some are smaller, some wider, some taller. I have no problem combining my Old Glory models with Newline, Relic, Foundry, or even Aventine for a game. Of course the Hinchcliffe's tend to fill in the background for photos  nowadays :)

Fairly clear side-by-side of Old Glory, Newline, and older 1st Corps (before they went huge).

Thanks, Jeff. I did end up grabbing the Old Glory Indian elephants, along with a Warlord Macedonian/Successors one (armored) as well. They appear to be roughly equivalent in size, for what it's worth (though I don't have the Old Glory models together yet... the old lead takes a little more doing!) I'll make sure to share a photo  once they are.

I do still intend to grab some from Aventine, but as my lead pile grows, I should probably get a few more units finished first before buying anything else. (Famous last words?  lol )
