A question about SAGA Battleboards.
« on: 23 March 2025, 09:32:48 PM »
Having recently acquired a SAGA 2022 rulebook and tried out the game with some fan made battleboards I am looking to getting into the real thing.

But I noticed a lot of errata and battle board corrections on the publishers website, I don't fancy paying 32quid for a nice hardback book if I have to print off and glue on bits of paper to use it. Could I use the books as is or should I hang on for reprints.

Any advice would be very welcome, the game is cracking and I have Vikings and the like spoiling for a fight!.

Cheers,
Harry.

Yeah, it is an issue. The german translators are so much better and sell up to date battleboards. I wish we could get that for the english version.

I have heard that if you can find very recently printed Age of Vikings and Age of Crusades the battleboards will be up to date. Unfortunately I don't know how to identify which books may have the updated boards in them.

I've persisted for quite a while with just carrying printed errata, but recently gave in and taped updated texts on my Age of Crusades boards. In the end, most of the changes are positive.

Thanks Ogrob, I thought that might be the case.

Why not phone Alex at Studio Tomahawk or Andy/Darren at Gripping Beast and ask?

They're all lovely folk and I'm sure would help.

Here's what I did.
Because I wanted multiple copies of the battleboards (e.g. I might be introducing someone new to Saga and decide we'll both use Vikings so I can take them through the process and thoughts about using abilities easier, or we could be playing a game with multi-players and need more than one copy of a battleboard for that) I scanned them in and printed them out.
Then, when the battle board updates came out I cut and pasted those updated abilities on to the scanned version and then printed them out (and laminated them for durability) again.
That way you have a copy of the battleboards with the updated abilities all part of it without having to stick anything on them.

Gordon Bennett!, that's a palaver Dice Roller, you must be keen.

I suppose I could just use the incorrect boards/rules as they are. I play solo so I have no-one to please but meself.

A wee update... I bought the Age of Vikings book from Gripping Beast as they have copies with updated boards and nabbed an Anglo-Saxon force as well.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.
