mammoths brutal quest miniatures - Wishbone & Ash
« on: 25 January 2021, 08:35:25 PM »
I've got a new game coming to kickstarter in feb, Brutal quest - a fantasy narrative system based on the planet 28 core rules.
while i work on the actual rules I figured this was an ideal time to properly get started on my Arthurian fantasy project.

I first mini will be the center character for a small warband - The black knight.

"the black Knight, the fallen angel, the glade king, the crownless prince... He has so many names, that strange warrior of the far woods. With wings of blinding gold and armour blacked with the soot of hades itself, many a fair questing Knight has met their end at the hands of this cruel Lord. "

The miniature is a perry footknight with dark eldar wings, painted in washes and gold leaf.

He looks WONDERFUL. The wings, in particular, are SPECTACULAR. VERY WELL DONE!
One critique: the dark miniature on a black background make it difficult to see clearly details on the miniature & the base.

I forget sometimes that not everyone has their screen brightness set to "Arc of the covenant" levels of luminous - I've just lowered it to normal and you're right, a tad dark...

Although i did take a picture against white and the gold was so reflective that it made the picture unusable.  lol

Another mini for brutal quest - this time an orc mercenary.

He's built from a warlord games/wargames factory orc. the sculpts are...yeah. Lumpy, poorly posed and lacking detail in weird places  - I had to rebuild the shoulders just to get a natural pose so after all that I didn't feel like lavishing alot of time on the paintjob. It's a shame since that actual design is based on the Angus McBride art and is packed with neat ideas.

"Synbad al-byr came to albion as a warrior Prince, at the head of a column of men 500 strong. They had come to sell their swords to the mad Knight gaswain, to fight his civil war against the high king Arturius and claim the throne of avalon. Only when their ships had been dashed to ki dling and their bright banners had been torn to shreds by the freezing rain did they come to discover that the high king was already dead, that Gaswain was little more than an armoured beggar, and worst of all, no one could afford to pay them. Years later and Synbad still wanders the forests, now selling his services as a giant slayer and killer of beast, always hoping to find a good ship and escape this mist cloaked Isle. "

A very quick paintjob to lead my growing peasant mob. I think he'd make a good villain NPC in a campaign.

the piper arrives in the morning, plays his happy tunes, then retreats into the woods, taking with him all who heard his music...

I've also been tinkering with some scenic shots using the wonderful terrain from fogou models and the odd bit of twig.

He's Arthur ready to face the black knight. both perry miniatures.

and of course the mandatory black and white shot to get that nice dungeon synth vibe.

Amazing freehand and color scheme!
Maybe you could make your pictures a little but lighter, because sometimes its pretty hard to recognize anything in the dark.

Brutal quest is with the printers and I've been casting up some of my own sculpts to play with - these chaps are joining my growing fantasy warbands.

Wishbone the half dwarf and Ash the half ogre.

Both of these are recent sculpts of my own that I've been casting up to release soon.

and a little in progress studio shot...

The colors and photography on Black Knight are incredible. Arthur facing off with B.K. is epic!
Great-looking sculpts and excellent paintwork. The Half Orge and colander-helmed dude are full of personality. I've seen colander in the rules of Planet 28, blasting away. You're a man of many talents!
