Mammoths weird war 2 project - ghoul trooper
« on: July 15, 2025, 11:24:39 PM »
I'm intrigued by konflikt 47 and have always liked weird war stuff, and I have by accident built up quite a collection of plastic ww2 bits and sprues. I've decided I'm going to make a konflikt 47 adjacent skirmish set, with a couple of warbands.

I think I'm going to go with a more hellboy/paranormal vibe than the weird science mechs of the actual warlord game, and I'll probably end up using planet 28 for the rules, but I'm going to try and make everything at least useable in konflikt 47 if I ever get the chance to try the game out.

The first test mini is my basic German troop - part of the Ghulbrigade, soldiers who have been given minor doses of rift based genetic serums to try and create something better than a man but less than a monster - with variable results.

A couple more figures for the slowly emerging world.
Firstly, a second ghulbrigade trooper, this time a slightly more bestial chap who has lost himself to the monstrous powers of the rift serum.

But wait, who's that?! A flash of red from nowhere?! it must be CAPTAIN CRIMSON!
Captain crimson, daring rift tech superhero of the British army, hops from battle to battle to bring his experimental blaster to bear against the ghoulish menace of the axis war machine. (in reality captain crimson is the last survivor of his unit - an experimental weapons testing team. He was pulled into another dimension during a horrific testing accident and now can only manifest where rift energy is strongest, usually fierce battles where experimental super weapons are being brough to bear against one another.)

I originally made him as a pilot figure for a 28mm MaK style project, but I figured he's work just as well as a www2 hero.

One more trooper - this marks the end of the three test figures, and now i must wait for my order of various german/british/US sprues to turn up.

I changed the paintjob for this figure - before I was doing everything with washes to build up a field gray colour using transparent layers of green, brown, grey, and white. It worked but it was slow and inconsistent. So I bit the bullet, bought 4 different field gray ish tones, and just built up drybrushes and stippling for the uniform. Took the painting time down to about 20 minutes.

Looks fantastic, especially for a 20 minute paintjob! Props to you, looking forward to seeing more of this world.

They remind me of some figures graven miniatures used to do, sandmen? Or something like that, very effective! And the head swap certainly looks better than the bolt action ones!

They look amazingly creepy. Big thumbs up :) deffinitely nailed the Hellboy pulp vibe.

I've used some leftovers from Bolt Action sprues on some Mantic Ghoul bodies for a really raggedy no-man's-land ghoul look. But the winter coats have their really own vibe that I really like, I just might steal that idea (after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery lol)
