Quivers or arrow bags, Wars of the Roses?
« on: 24 June 2021, 02:47:20 PM »
Did English archers use quivers or arrow bags in the WotR as a feed in battle, like archers of other nations? I don’t mean predominantly.  It’s understood they continued by and large to tuck them in their belts, sticking them in the ground when standing in a position.

I mean a minority of men who might have used them. Many or most longbowmen in Burgundian armies were Englishmen and often used a fur arrow bag.

No. The bags of arrows were transported to the battlefield then carried into position by the soldiery; most often stuck in the ground in front of the archer.

Quivers are more Robin Hood TV than reality in English armies of the time. :)
