An introductory game was played last night amid wild weather. Details are here https://corlearshookfencibles.blogspot.com/2021/07/the-combat-of-hasenpfeffer-1813-shadow.html

And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

I've just bought these rules as a direct consequence of the article in Wargames Illustrated. I'm hoping to digest them while off next week.
They seem to have mechanisms my brain can assimilate, and are a good way of getting me into assembling "proper armies" again.
Lovely pictures too.

Having read the same article in WI magazine I'm kind of getting drawn in, but thirty quid for a book about how to play with toy sowjers, seems a tad steep?

Unless you did some photos for it (I think I did 20 or so) when you get it freeeeeeee!!!!!! :D ;) :D ;)

It's a nice set of conventional gaming rules, well put together. Book quality, binding, etc. is excellent. Some of the photos, are stunning lol lol lol lol lol

The hard cover book also has some very fine paintings by Chris Collingwood and others. It's a handsomely produced book and good rules. I've purchased other coffee table rule books at this price or higher with rules I don't play more than once.

We pay plenty for toy soldiers, painting guides, paint, historical research but balk when it comes to paying a comparative pittance for the rules we will use. I do it too.

It's daft innit, to be fair.
Thing is though, I've shelves full of wargames books/rules, the actual playing 'rules' from all of 'em put together would probably cover just half a dozen sheets of A4.
