Muskets and Tomahawks 2 Unit Sizes
« on: 27 August 2021, 09:13:16 AM »
Just got my copy of Muskets and Tomahawks 2 yesterday and from what I have read so far it seems like quite a fun game. I want to use it for some small AWI games initially but it seems the Redcoats and Tomahawks supplement is out of print currently.

Would anyone know what the basic unit sizes are in the game for units like British Regulars, Continentals and Militia? I have some plastic Perry Miniatures for the period and want a rough idea of how many to assemble for individual units. Hoping by the time I have some put together and painted the supplement will be available again.

Thanks

Steve

I played the game for the 1st time last month - it was hosted by a friend and I have no real knowledge of the rules beyond what was explained to me - Hopefully someone with better rule knowledge will weigh in, but in the meantime for what it's worth, in the F&IW scenario we played the Indians had six figure units and most of the 'European' units (British & French regulars & militia) were in eight figure units.   I seem to recall Indian units max size was six figures, but there was a bit more flexibility in the European unit sizes.

My rule of thumb for wargames is a player should have at least three maneuver elements and that would hold true for M&T, while double this number of units would not pose a challenge to an experienced player, I would think.

Thanks for that, eight figure units sounds about right, same as Sharp Practice I think.

Thanks very much Steve, that’s great. I can at least start assembling some figures for units now while I wait for the reprint.

The size brackets makes it quite flexible since you can always add another unit of the same kind. I found this to be useful and allowed me to use all my figures  ;)

Very true, I really like the flexible unit sizes. Makes it much easier when collecting for a new period.
