War Party
« on: July 01, 2024, 06:00:45 AM »
I was thinking that there are probably few, or less than a few, miniatures for indigenous people with a futuristic theme. I tried to make one in Titancraft and I wanted to keep to a more North American theme. There wasn't much to choose from but here are the results.

Also included is a synopsis of a back story explaining their possible existence and goals. This is more of an exercise, although the more I think of it, a setting for a skirmish game could be made from the idea.

In a bid to reclaim their heritage, the People of the Land forsook the oppressive laws of the Planetary Government several hundred years ago. Venturing to a distant planet, they brought with them seeds and DNA samples of all necessary flora and fauna to transform their new world into the promised paradise of the Great Spirit. Their chosen planet, abundant in resources and stable in its conditions, allowed them to achieve this transformation in just 147 years.
However, peace is always fleeting. A new threat, unlike any they have faced before, has emerged. Some believe this menace is a test from the Great Spirit, meant to keep them from becoming complacent. Others see it as a covetous force seeking to steal the fruits of their hard labor. Regardless of the reason, these marauders have chosen the wrong planet to invade.
The People of the Land, resilient and prepared, stand ready to defend their home. Warrior bands have already mobilized to confront the invaders, determined to protect their paradise and ensure that peace reigns once more. The marauders will soon learn that this planet is far from easy pickings, and the People of the Land will succeed where they have previously failed.

Good idea. Can also be useful as characters from Fallout 1 & 2  :)

Plus Mad Max 2 and beyond, the Rage! videogame or even Duran Duran music videos...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

The enemy of the People of the Land are the Kalcifer. They claim the systems in this sector and have for thousands of years. They received reports of a new species trying to establish themselves in their territory as they were finalizing plans to mine resources in this sector. They now have to remove the squatters trying to steal their planets. After all, they legally registered their claim in the galactic register back in 76m standard year.

There goes the neighborhood!  lol

The war is being fought with such ferocity that observation buoys from the Galactic Council's Civil Observation Council has been sending back signals at levels previously thought impossible. The Council dispatched a Field Observer to oversee the matter. The People of the Land assumed the observer was part of the invasion and immediately attacked the observer. The observer failed to follow protocols of war first contact statutes numbers 348 to 9842.

No slouch to combat, Yopopupu saw red and flew into a murderous rage. No one disrespects an official observer from the Galactic Council's Civil Observation Council! She slew a whole war party by herself and realized that she made an error and broke several rules of engagement. Standard procedure is to report to her superior and accept reprimand. Instead she attempts to cover up the situation and erase any incriminating evidence and deny deny deny.

Have mercy! The Council is all wise.

Not to be outclassed, the People of the Land unleashed one of their deadliest units. The AI Articubot. They flashed it's cortex with extermination engrams and dropped them near the enemy landing zones. The devastation was immediate and the Kalcifers called in air strikes down on their own positions in order to remove the threat. The air strike proved to have little effect. E.M. bombs were dropped and that also had no effect. If they wish to conquer this rock they had better bring in more than an invasion force.

The chance for peace has failed. The Galactic Council has called an emergency session to determine their course of action. Too many mistakes were made and the voters are starting to feel sympathetic to the outsider colonist's cause. The Council must get control of the situation or their authority will be jeopardized.

In order to salvage a desperate situation, the Kalcifer need to buy time so that their heavier units can travel to the system. They have allies nearby and they decide to call in a marker. The Chenowe are legendary marksman due to their insectoid eyes. They can focus all facets on the same target and see at a range greater than most electronic sights as well as provide more definition. Their powerful rifles are more than capable of shooting as great a distance as they can see.

The Chenowe marksman are having a better time dealing with the AI Articubots than the Kalcifers. They are targeting weak points on their weapon mounting points. Once 'defanged' the AI Articubots are as dangerous as a one-eyed-space-karoo. Whatever that is.

"Esteemed people of the galaxy. I call this session to bring attention to a matter of great importance to the people we humbly serve. There is an ongoing event that threatens to break out from a local dispute into a wider problem. We must seek a solution and bring all parties involved to the negotiating table. It makes no difference that the beings of the troubled system are not part of the Galactic Concord. We speak for all intelligent species of our galaxy. This is regarded as the Diamond Age of Peace. No time in history has seen more disagreements settled through non violent means. This will prove no exception as long as I am the Chief Administrator."

[Several Days Later]

News Flash!

Chief Administrator Stroon was deposed and is being held in confinement. The more hawkish councilmembers are staging a coupe and want to return to the old ways. Decisions are being made and sides are starting to form. The civilized areas are becoming more unstable and a rumored outside threat could find an easy path to conquering the galaxy. I recommend that all good citizens of the galaxy pray to their deities for safety and enlightenment. The inmates are taking over the asylum. Keep watching for developing information.

"The scum that have infiltrated the Galactic Council must be purged. Do they think that televising a military tribunal on the holovid showing me being found guilty of treason is going to give them the guts to execute me? My experience tells me this weak attempt of overthrowing the will of the voters is just a smoke screen for some other group preparing to snake their way into power. I have been Chief Administrator for hundreds of years and I am not without my own resources. My own elite personal commando guard is currently tracking my position and will have me free within the hour. "

The Turquez are a race of diminutive beings from a distant star system unlike any other. The unique conditions on their home world gives them advantages when on other more stable worlds. They have natural sonar, subharmonic vocalization that only others of their species can understand through ground vibrations and an uncanny knack for knowing who to target in any combat. They are masters of stealth and wear a special suit that suppresses visible light. They also were programmed to follow the orders of the first non Turquez DNA that is introduced into their blood stream. This quirky species has allowed the Galactic Council to end wars before they started by utilizing their special talents, even if it is exploitive in nature.

Never ones to be left behind, the Ristugar eagerly joined the fight in order to establish their claim. Of course, they claim anything and everything that they can. They land with their BattleWalkers and blast anything in their path. They will not walk on the ground because they do not want the ground to taint them. Ground that is not ritually cleansed is disgusting to them and they will do anything they can to avoid walking on the ground. Even if it means they have to leave.

The Ristugar enter the fray and devastate everybody with their outlawed weapons. Who is going to know if they destroy anyone in their path? The horrors they unleashed gave their enemies doubt about their presence here. Many have left, but not to run away. Their are going to get their illegal weapons and return to the war. Their enemy's flagrant disregard for Galactic Law is sickening to them. They will enforce the law even if they were not given the authority to do so. Time to end this!

In the quiet depths of space, the Harglorae watched. Once, their knowledge and curiosity had driven them to alter the very fabric of the universe, accelerating time to spawn new life. Their intentions were noble, seeking companionship in a vast, empty cosmos. But their creations, born of rushed time, became a plague of discord.

Planets burned, civilizations collapsed, and chaos reigned where harmony was meant to flourish. The Harglorae retreated, wracked with guilt and sorrow. They had played gods, and in their haste, had sown the seeds of ruin. Now, as their numbers dwindled, they bore witness to the destruction their actions had wrought.

Yet, amidst the ruin, a glimmer of hope remained. The Harglorae observed a young species, still in the nascent stages of its development. This species, though fragile and naive, exhibited potential. They reached for the stars with a curiosity that mirrored the Harglorae's own.

"Perhaps," mused the eldest among the Harglorae, "they can succeed where we failed."

The Harglorae knew they could not intervene directly. Their touch, their influence, had proven too heavy, too corruptive. Instead, they chose to watch and wait, hoping that this young species would grow and learn from the universe itself.

If left alone, this species might discover the delicate balance the Harglorae had upset. They might teach others, spreading wisdom instead of destruction. It was a slim chance, but it was all the Harglorae had.

In the cold silence of their ancient ships, the Harglorae whispered prayers to the stars. They hoped for redemption, for a future where their mistakes could be undone. And so, they waited, placing their last hopes on the fragile shoulders of a young, untested species, hoping they would succeed where the Harglorae had failed.

In the distant future, the remnants of Earth’s Indigenous peoples had found solace among the stars. The People of the Land, with their rich heritage and ancient wisdom, had settled on a lush planet they named Manitou, after the Great Spirit. They had hoped to rekindle their old ways, living in harmony with nature and the universe.

But even on Manitou, peace was elusive. War raged across the galaxy, fueled by greed and the lust for power. The months of war dragged on with no one gaining the upper hand. Months turned to years, and the years stretched into long, painful decades of death and suffering. It seemed as if the universe itself sought to prolong the agony, feeding on the energy and chaos of endless conflict.

A theory circulated among the scholars of Manitou. They speculated that the universe’s purpose was to create energy and then consume it, converting all matter and energy into an inert state. Perhaps the universe had created sentience so that this natural order would be completed quicker. Maybe war was just another process in this cosmic cycle. But how could they prevent this seemingly inevitable fate? As a single cell is to a body, were they not the same to the universe?

The People of the Land elders gathered in council, pondering these profound questions. One elder, named Makwa, spoke with a voice filled with sorrow and resolve.

“We once lost our path in life and started to follow others’ paths,” Makwa said. “We thought finding another place to live and thrive with the old ways would bring us back to our heritage. Perhaps this was merely a test to see if we were ready for the real path. We have failed.”

Makwa's words resonated deeply with the others. They had sought refuge among the stars, but had not truly returned to their roots. The Algonquin word for wisdom, "nizinigus," echoed in their minds. If ever there was a time for wisdom, it was now.

The Great Spirit had spoken of a surge, a powerful force of change. They had always interpreted it as a call to overwhelm their enemies, but Makwa offered a different perspective.

“Now I think it refers to surging past those who are set on a path of destruction,” he said. “Perhaps it is time to teach the universe a new way. This Star Surge requires a dance to put things into perspective. Gather those of like mind to shun the ways of death and meet here to perform a dance to the new way. The Dance of the Star Surge.”

The elders agreed. Messages were sent out to all People of the Land settlements, calling for a gathering. People traveled from across Manitou, bringing their hopes and dreams for a better future.

On the night of the Dance of the Star Surge, the sky above Manitou was filled with stars. A vast circle formed in a sacred clearing, and the People of the Land began their dance. It was a dance of unity, of peace, and of wisdom. The rhythm of the drums echoed through the night, and the dancers moved with grace and purpose, their spirits lifted by the power of their shared heritage.

As the dance continued, a sense of calm and clarity spread through the participants. They felt a connection to the universe, a profound understanding that they were not just passive observers but active participants in its destiny. The Great Spirit’s surge was not about war but about transcending the cycle of destruction.

In that moment, they realized that the path forward was the one they had been taught before old Earth colonization had led them astray. It was a path of respect for all life, of harmony with nature, and of seeking wisdom over power. The Dance of the Star Surge became a symbol of their commitment to this path, a beacon of hope in a galaxy mired in conflict.

And so, the People of the Land led by example, spreading their message of peace and wisdom. Their influence grew, inspiring others to join them in rejecting the ways of war. Slowly but surely, the tide began to turn. The universe, once a place of endless suffering, started to heal.

The People of the Land had found their true path again, and in doing so, they taught the universe a new way. The Star Surge was not just a dance but a movement, a surge of wisdom and peace that transformed the cosmos.

...until something let chaos in.

Thanks for everyone who has shown interest in this 'experiment'. I don't plan on continuing this particular story. I could go back and fill in all the details infinitely but it would not serve much of a purpose. I mostly wanted some narrative for the minis I wanted to make. I need to fix my printer before I can print them anyway. However, I am going to start a new story with a different theme. This one will contain sci-fi, science fantasy as well as urban fantasy elements. That is, if I can craft it properly. It is based on a weird dream of a dystopian future that I had once. I will start a new thread for that story. Look for Q-Factor. :)

fair enough that it's served its purpose - but great sculpts and back-stories.
