Naming figures
« on: 06 March 2022, 03:46:29 PM »
Some gamers name their miniature figures. I also label mine. Here are some of mine:
Atomic Mob:  Finn Xin, NAS-4-A2 (borrowed that one, he is a biter), Blister, Emerson Kitsume, Billy Knockdoh, Fleaboy, Elmer Figg, Henry Boolka, Olie Olbercore, "Wetpants" Latka, Osterman Dork, Joose,

Bad Juju:  Jinny Jae, Jagga Dool (mutant sister), Jingo Blue, Custis Morg, Cyl Hitchcock, Jongeleur, Jenny Killoh, Short Biskyt, Gagmar Dick (aka the Lake Camp Killer), Nike Goodthighs (apologies to Bond novels), Stefania Constantini (a salute to the Italian mixed doubles champion ice stone slider)

There are others.

I almost always name my figures and come up with some backstory and motivation. It probably comes from sitting and spending time with each figure for a long time as I'm a slow painter and almost always do some custom greenstuff or other conversion work. The only time I don't do names is for grunt-level baddies. They just get a number most of the time so I can keep track of damage or status in some clear manner.

I enjoy naming my figures as well, giving them a name and a background, I feel it helps to move the game forward, rather than just following the rules in a dry fasion, it gets you more into your game rather than observing it. You want to see your heroes win and more bum out if they fail or are lost to the game. You'll find that your games are much more enjoyable, and your other players will relate to the game as well with lead to retelling of old games "Remember that time when my Sir Alvin..." other than "Remember that game when my figure...".

Easy agreement with War Monkey. Ian Fleming's Bond naming conventions come to mind. Some of the film characters' names were fun. Giovanna Goodthighs (Casino Royale), and the female leaning over the unconscious Bond suddenly awake on Auric Goldfinger's jet:
Bond: Who are you?
Woman: My name is Pussy Galore.
Bond: I must be dreaming.
