What figure is this?
« on: 20 June 2023, 04:55:18 PM »
Who recognises this figure?

It's on a slotta, but in a metal oval slotted base.

I think the shield is on a shield plug as well.

I think it was Citadel, but I'm not 100% sure which range.

Looks like one of the Wargames Foundry Medieval Foot Knights if that helps!

And a lot of those were available from Citadel first (not that I recognise this one)

Oh yeah, that is definitely the figure in the Foundry catalogue. I think it's one of those ranges that 'passed over' to Foundry from Citadel, 'cus this figure as I said is on a slotta-bar. Does anyone recall the Citadel range/ year it was released?

It looks very like some of the Perry Bretonnian foot knights circa 1990. However, this particular sculpt is not one that I've seen before in the catalogues.

100% correct. It would have a slotta base if it was Citadel. Definitely Foundry, but the mini is still a lovely sculpt even after all these years.

Looks like a variation of Foundry Med202 foot knights or maybe top right?

EDIT - sorry I see he was already identified

I do remember GW/Citadel selling oval, metal slotta bases in their magazine (around early 90’s to early 100’s?). The advert also included the three long multi-base for their plastic bases.

I know what you mean but I think they were different models James. I remember all the useful stuff for the HYW (Poitier's specific era) stuff the Perry's sculpted for Citadel was slottabases. I've got quite a few of them somewhere in the mess here  lol

I suspect that this might be a converted Citadel 3rd edition foot knight. A simple head swap from the original kettle helm to a great helm from another figure in the range. Could be an unreleased one, I suppose.

Could certainly be.
The problem is I've asked the men who should know, the designers, and they can't remember. Imagine that, making 10s of thousands of miniatures over a 45 year period and not being able to recall when they made one knight figure?  lol

Making my own supposition, I think it was either
a) Made for Citadel, but unreleased so passed to Foundry 'cus it's historical and the same bloke owned both companies,
b) Similar to above except it was a 'head-swop' of a Citadel model (as pointed out by Citizen Sade).

Having seen so many variants on a theme over the years from Citadel, I'd bet the different helms are just variants on the same model. Honestly, some of them are very different, some are almost exactly the same and I don't think they photographed and/or publish them either.
