[COMMERCIAL] Introducing "Der Söldner" wargame ruleset
« on: 30 November 2023, 07:31:19 AM »
Recently I introduced yet another player to Der Söldner. A wargame ruleset for the mid-14th to mid-17th century. It is based on the strategic level MATRIX wargaming concept developed in the late 1980’s by Chris Engle. The key difference with most other systems is that it is based on building a narrative rather than a strict turn with activation, followed by movement, followed by shooting, and so on.

It was a highly enjoyable game and the player noted that the people on this forum might be interested in the blogs that I make on the various games. This blog I started when I began developing Der Söldner and it described my journey from the very first test games to what it is today. I tourney of several years. One with very enjoyable games, big learnings, and a step by step sculpting, so to say, of a new ruleset. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Is there a possibility of getting the rules as pdf? Would love to try them.

Unfortunately the rules are not available as PDF. My publisher is hardcopy only…

Hi William, out of curiosity. As PDFs are mostly not for free, what price tag would you be looking for in case of a test?

What is free are the QRS files on my blog: https://tabletopmatrixwargames689972109.wordpress.com/game-materials/

Perhaps these give you a feel for how it might play.

Pdfs seem to range from the same price as the printed rules to lot less. Your paper back seems to be 20Euros, i would go for 15-18 Euros.

Thanks… I cannot do anything on the price. That’s the publisher. However, the paperback via bol.com (https://www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/arguing-when-money-talks-der-soldner/9300000162730998/?bltgh=qtZwLqRFk48oPns1hTNBRQ.2_6.8.RollupItem) is 17.99… which is of course without P&P…

Thanks for the info.

It is not about the price it is about the paper, I have so many rules and live in a good size appartement in Copenhagen but shelf space is full, also my minor bit about carbon foot print.

So would rather a pdf first to try and see if I like the rules rather than a set of rules shipped to me and then find I dont like them so in the bin and I assume you are in the UK so lots of extra cost involved. Just a pain, pdf so easy.

Thanks
Willaim
