Introducing "The Defender" and Friends
« on: June 04, 2012, 03:01:41 AM »
I'm still looking for a better name.   :)

Anyway, this is the first painted miniature from Crossover Miniatures. I think it's fantastic, but I'm biased.  He first was discussed in October of last year and I saw the green of him in November, then he arrived in the mail on Thursday.   I spent quite a bit of time getting him done this weekend.

I think the sculptor's, Soapy's, knowledge of anatomy is brilliant.  I painted him up in basic orange and white and he looked good.  But when I applied the wash, the subtle depressions came alive showing muscle tone and all the little details that just really make him a FANTASTIC model.  I only wish my painting could match the quality of the sculpt.

Anyway, comments or criticisms welcome!

I think I've hit a record here, 200+ views and not a single comment.  Nice to know my paintwork leaves everyone "speechless".   lol

I hadn't seen this until now but I had seen the green. I like your painting a lot on what I already think is the best generic "super" yet made.

My problem with these is that I like them an awful lot but am trying to resist doing another project, after seeing your work here I am closer to failing.

I hate to root against someone, but you know you want to!  Perhaps I can post more soon, my wife is working late tonight and I have the big guy primed and on a painting slab.

This guy won't be ready for general viewing for a few days, still a coat of clear, a wash, two coats of matte, and basing to do, wow that's a lot.  But with a quick photoshop I have a cool teaser.

I'm just calling him "13"

Great work here....

For the first guy what is his powers? Names are based on powers so it is hard for someone to give you an idea without some guidelines.

The second I would call the guy in the mask something like Onslaught or the Brawler.

I would call the big guy "Horror Show" and  the other guy looks like a "Paragon" to me.

The bird man or orangatraz?  (The beak and the orange)

Ahnold Blackegger?.....(Arnold Swarzenegger)

Julius......Orange Julius, which is a very obsurce reference.

Very nice brush work, just no name leaps out.

No idea about naming them to be honest but,

Add a cape and you've got Mark Millar's Nemesis. Nasty piece of work..an anti batman.

Add a cape and ears and utlility belt and well.... ;)

Thanks Vyper, I'm looking forward to seeing where people take them once they are released.  I'm not converter, but I know lots of folks on here can do some cool stuff with good raw material.

I'm not actually seeking a name from the crowd in this thread, though I can totally see where it's coming from.  AND I'm really ENJOYING all the suggestions! I think I'm going to call him Guard Man in the store so as not to step on any IP.  I'll have a different name on the table of course. :)

Unfortunately the French for Guardian is "Tuteur" which is pants LoL!

Slap "Guardian" in a Thesaurus Engine you get Defender . . . .

The Defender sounds cool!

LOL!  Put vindicate in a thesaurus and you get exonerate as one of the results.  Most of the other results are already names of Supers.  :)  There's most likely a reason why there hasn't been a "The Exonerator" before.   lol :'(

I'm thinking The Defender must have been taken, but if not, I'm all for it.

At the end of the day, I want people to make their own Supers or convert them to their own ends.  BUT I realize many of the general public need names for inspiration or nice paint jobs to copy.  I know that I love the LAM Steampunk minis, I've painted quite a few, but my results would be much worse if I didn't use the paint schemes from the site as inspiration.
