New to Wargaming AWI Black Powder
« on: 22 January 2024, 03:53:05 PM »
HI,

I am brand new to wargaming. Never played. I liked the Black Powder AWI 28mm figures so I have assembled and painted three British Redcoat Regiments (Battalion in a box?) and two artillery pieces. I do not have a set of rules. Looking for Clubs to have a go at playing in the North Northamptonshire (UK) area. I am at Kettering.

Regards,

Commissar Glenn

Hi Glen, can’t help you with clubs, but do keep an eye out for the following wargames shows, Hammerhead, WMMS (Alumwell)and partizan, all relatively within your local, but giving a great day out and very good for enthusiasm.

Hammerhead (Nottingham) is first in late feb I think and then the following week is WMMS (Birmingham).

Hi Glen,

Kettering has a wargames club, meets on Thursday nights (did before Covid) they have a Facebook page.

I use British Grenadier rules for the period, if you are on Facebook there are a few groups available for AIW period.

For inspiration for AWI miniatures look for a few good blogs Der Alte Fritz Journal and Giles Allison’s blog “Tarletons Qauter”.

I think you will find Hammerhead is Saturday March 2nd and WMMS is Sunday March 17th. I'm a regular at Hammerhead which is truly excellent with free parking, albeit getting crowded which shows its popularity. I haven't been to WMMS for about 25+ years when it was held in a school. I used to tale my wife and kids to see my dad in Birmingham and then I'd dive off to the show leaving grandad to dote on his grandkids. Eventually my planning was rumbled.
