Help, looking for nostalgic ruleset
« on: October 01, 2024, 09:56:17 AM »
Thank you in advance, some 30+ ok 40 years ago I started to dabble in ww2 wargaming  but failing to find anyone to play against they got sold off at a carboot. However I would like to get the old rules back, and maybe restart a new hobby for my retirement.

What I remember of the rules, A5 booklet "lino" printed?
1 to 1 scale, no army list, equipped troops individually,  lots of half and quarter points, vehicles had armour values on each side valued as a through to z, guns penetrated at different ranges. Sample battle account between a Sherman and Mark IV.

If anyone knows what the rules are called I would be grateful.

Greetings,

Was it Tactical Commander?

I haven’t played it just going off your description and a quick read through - matches the Lino cut cover, 1/2 points and alphabetical armour values (I think)

If not I’ll keep looking (it’s a fun internet Wargaming detective game for me!)

Hi, Andrew, sorry to spoil your fun but you got it in one, remember the picture believe it had a yellow insert too.

Again thank you for the assistance.

I have that set of rules as well, there's 2 yellow pages with printing on both sides.

Also have ANGRIFF by D. Myers and R Zimmermann.  Both rules sets I have were printed in 1982.  I can't recall which I liked best but Tactical Commander seems more or less Skirmish rules whereas Angriff appears to be using larger formations.

I used to have those rules; almost unplayable level of detail. I guess they might be Ok if you have all day for a game.
