Identification request
« on: October 11, 2024, 09:51:22 AM »
I stumbled upon these, and was stumped as to where they're from. The seller doesn't know either. Not particularly interested, but now I really want/need to know their origin :D

I was thinking Traveler perhaps?
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Looks like they are "Tercios Espaciales" by a Spanish company called Wargames. The Soviet-looking ones are from the faction "La Guardia", and the yellow ones are from the "Tercios Espaciales" faction... So Not-Imperial Guard and Not-Space Marines respectively.

Not too sure about the two characters in the bottom right though, but they are also from the same range.

There was a game called "GREIF" that there were supposed to be used for, published by F&G Ediciones. From the images of models in the range, it looks a bit like a 40k/Warzone crossover, and even had a Not-Orks faction called "Ggorko".

I can't quite tell if the game was meant to be generic for use with models available at the time, and also happened to have suitable models made for it, or if it was really just a cover for making cheaper models to play 40k with aimed at the local Spanish market. Models look like a late 1990s to early 2000's sculpting style, and I think the actual 40k figures were rather expensive (relatively) for Spain at the time, so I suspect that it's really the latter...

Anyway, if you search for "Tercios Espaciales" on Google, it'll bring up most of what can be found on them... Might be interesting to track down the rules and see what they're like? If you find the rules, and they are in Spanish only, I can assist with translation of them if you'd like to play them. If you ever do play them, I'd be very interested on your thoughts afterwards!  :)

Thanks Major :)

I knew it was a given that the answer could be provided on the LAF, the only variables were speed and depth, and you've provided both here.

I have no real intention of buying them, I was just intrigued by them, as I can usually place just about every line with slottabases. They're pretty obscure, but I'll take a dive into the direction you've steered me. I will most likely not bother with the rules though; playing games is just the excuse I use to paint minis ;) But  thanks for the translation offer nonetheless.

Hmm; I do actually like the miniatures on the top row; they'd make for a cool squad of enforcers... ::)

Well, I'm glad you posted these, as it's the first time I've ever heard of them myself!  o_o

Apparently, Angel Giraldez's first painted model was one of the yellow troopers. (Link)

The quality of the range seems to be highly variable, with the models your friend has being amongst the better ones from what I can tell. I think many of them would be enormously helped by a nice paintjob, but most of those I've found (including the official models) have a rather basic beginner's paintjob, which is a pity.

Anyway, I know you like these sort of obscure old sci-fi games, and you're pretty decent with a brush too, so... Maybe make your friend a cheeky offer afterall?  ;)

And now they're mine  :D

Sculpting is a bit rough around the edges, notably some proportions (I'm especially looking at you, chimp-armed lady lol ) but the trench coat guys are interesting enough to warrant a clean and a place in the painting queue...

I like the vibe of those helmeted guys.  Shades of Death Star Imperial Gunner helmets there.  Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.

I was just perusing along the tinternet and happened upon this post, leading with "not really interested, but..." and a few posts later on Ye Olde "Oh Shiny!!!" affliction has gotten hold of the gent  lol lol.

Looking forward to what'll happen to the Spanish Inquisition when you've cleaned them up and put some fresh paint on them.

lol

What can I say? After all these years in the hobby, 'Oh shiny' and I are definitely on a first name basis  :D

Also, at just €10,- for the lot, including P&P, saying no would just be criminal!

At least; that is what I say to myself ;)
